It's not like most of us mere mortals have a whole lot of control over who decides to follow us. There are a lot of them out there, so the less of a following you have, the more likely you are to have a high proportion of "follow farmers".

unless your followers curate lists to their favorite posters (which of course includes you) or otherwise use non-following feeds that make it more likely they'll see your posts, they're probably getting lost in a sea of random noise

the reason for this is almost certainly that you're seeing them reposted into your feed because the other people you follow are also likely following many of the same accounts, so bigger accounts do have more visibility

but it's in large part repost, not algorithm-driven (discover feed is a thing)

I guess the difference is Reddit is post-driven, and Bluesky is account-driven.

I just stopped giving a shit. I was on Twitter for years and never had more than 30-40 followers. I was there for over a decade.

I basically say a lot of the same crap here that I did there. I just stopped being so self conscious and more myself.

Just be authentic. The weirdest shit gets likes.

In addition to the "Following Feed" settings, there's an "OnlyPosts" feed that only shows you actual posts, not reskeets (yeah, I said it) by folks you follow. I like to check that one from time to time because it lets me catch stuff that'd be buried otherwise.

If you click the three dots on a post, you can select "hide this post for me" and never see it again. I also suggest not following people who post stuff that stresses you out.

Before Times Twitter used to do a version of this where a post would only show up once for you no matter how many times it was RT’d within a certain time period, but then if some time passed and someone RT’d it again you’d get another instance of it

This is probably because a) the big accounts tend to post more (in my experience) and b) big accounts get more interaction, so if you miss a post from a big account, you end up seeing it when someone else that you follow replies to them.

no, it just means that they're much less likely to see or interact with your posts - so if e.g. 500 people who follow you are follow-farmers you probably aren't getting much engagement from them compared to 500 followers who aren't follow-farmers
