Look I'm glad to see Dems criticizing Trump's tariffs as catastrophic, which they are.
But if Dems hope to maintain credibility on this issue, at some point they need to explain why they (& Biden) voiced similar criticism against Trump's 1st term tariffs & then supported Biden keeping them in place

time to move on from Biden bashing, it's why mainstream media is useless at this point in history
Biden reverted some, kept some
If Biden knew how to speak in public
He would’ve yelled Trump‘s tariff cost us $20 billion of lost soy beans
That taxpayers are paying for subsidies
In the new order you say it loud, say it often, and when challenged, you double down and lie.
It works like a charm.
Tariffs CAN be effective to protect and industry or to punish individual actors (think: Russian oligarchs)
Trump is a gigantic elephant in the room that's like a bull in a china shop: much gets broken and there's no room to maneuver
Was that not the case?
Messaging currently not being their strength, they better start.
But you’re right.
What an idiot.
Tariffs are useful in limited cases to protect specific industries from unfair foreign competition.
Trump is using across-the-board tariffs (except against his pal Putin) to destroy the US economy.
Sure they both kill people and fall from the sky — but one does not lead to the other we have hundreds of years of proof.
I abhor protectionism as I do war, but I am sorry there is no comparison to Trump I, Biden or anything since the Early 20th century.
Biden didn't reverse Trump's old tariffs because it would've meant accusations from all sides that he was soft on China. (He should've taken the hit & reversed them, anyway - but didn't.)
Why not just say this is your own personal preference?
Imagine running for office when prices/inflation was an issue and LEAVING THEM IN PLACE
insanity
All throughout Biden‘s term, people kept saying he and the dems didn’t do enough.
Tariffs are a last--NOT a first--resort in trade negotiations. China was already being recalcitrant in prior trade relations: they basically said "if Americans keep buying our stuff & their government does nothing..."
So something was done back then which...
1/3
Tariffs are not an evil in and of itself, but can be used to get
America thoughtfully to consider...
2/3
3/3
I'm not even sure how this gets fixed in the future since we're straight up violating existing trade agreements now, and no one will trust us
Whatabout...not comparing apples and ORANGES?
2) Did Dems criticize the last tariffs to *this* level. Examples?
3) Yes, Biden should have reversed far more Trump shit than he did.
What Dems and media need to do is actually do a much better job of explaining the power of trade vs isolationism.
And China devalued the RMB to offset some price differences.
I guess I just answered my own question
They're just way less bad than the other party.
I'll wait.
Wait and see, I suppose.
The problem we have is that when one party is in power the partisans jump to their defense and attack anyone who doesn’t.
When the other guys are in power, literally everything they do is the devil.
They are playing all of us.
Today, Trump announced tariffs that are going to crash the whole world's economy, for no reason at all. And Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell's take on that is "Democrats suck."
Democracy dies right here on Bluesky.
We had "tariffs are always bad" for years, which was sometimes bad, now Trump is trying "tariffs are always good," which is a disaster.
Axios
Don't try blaming this shit show economic suicide I Democrats.
Fukk that!!
Chip Act would have benefited from the tarrifs-American economy stood to benefit. The investments in American Made Chips, Solar, Green Tech would have benefited hugely. Our allies might have embraced an American Made microchip over a Taiwanese...
Your post proves it's true.
Just look at how they responded when they saw money being saved from Doge. They complained about the cuts, but immediately planned how to spend the money that was “saved”
