Recommendations required please. Where would be a nice place to go in the UK with some nice restaurants and a fab bookshop or two for a last minute weekend? Not asking for a friend… asking for me. Ha.

I see you know Edinburgh. Then go to Glasgow with its outstanding restaurants, wonderful varied architecture and many bookshops. And museum, galleries... and the Clyde.
Most of the towns on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway have got some interesting bookshops - some bracing seaside / mountain walks to be done too. After Dumfries you’re on the bus though…
Edinburgh -- bunch of good indie bookshops (Typewronger, Tills, The EdinburghBookshop, Armchair Books, dozens of others) as well as the inevitable Waterstones and a big Toppings.
Came here to say "Alnwick". Beaten to it. Closest station is Alnmouth on the East Coast Mainline between Edinburgh and Newcastle. There appear to be buses between Alnmouth station and Alnwick.
Bath is excellent for book shopping, there's Mr B's Emporium of Reading Delights, and a HUGE Toppings. For second-hand, the basement of George Bayntun's is a bit of an Aladdin's cave.
Cheltenham is also great for both new (Hatchard's, Rossiter's) and second-hand bookshops.
I love Bath. I’m off there in April which will be fun! Cheltenham is also ace was there for the festival last year but didn’t get to go into the new Hatchards.
Ooh the Hatchard's is lovely, you will have that to look forward to the next time you're in Chelters, it's one of those lovely multi-room places where you keep discovering new delights.
I’ve had many a good hour or three in many of those bookshops. I started last year with a week in Edinburgh mooching. Was lovely. A weekend almost isn’t long enough.
