Super happy for you. Libby is the best. One recommendation for you. If you live within 5-10 miles of another library, join it as well. That way you increase your chances of getting the book that you want. Most of us have at least two library cards.
I love booksy. Have you seen the website FantasticFiction? It has a boatload of authors, books in their series in order and upcoming releases. It's been my go to for years. A librarian showed me the site.
Hoopla is equally as good and the borrow times are 21 days instead of 10 on Libby. There are 3 main advantages to Libby: creating tagged TBR list, placing holds, the curated book lists by librarians are helpful. #Booksky #Libraries
I stack my holds and every time a new one is available it feels like Xmas. Of course they all become available at once and I end up reading four books simultaneously but there are worse problems to have.
Please share it to anyone who might be interested! Some great content on there that only gets better and better while all these other services begin to get too greedy.
It uses your library card to connect you to your state’s digital library collection. Go to your public library and ask them to help you set up your account. It’s the best!
I didn’t think I would like reading on my tablet (I’ve always liked holding a real book). But it’s nice to be able to make the font bigger to help me see better. You will love it! Enjoy! 😁
I'm loving Libby! My local library is really small so selection is limited. Then I heard that you can have a free library card with the Chicago library (you can use their address for the account)!
I LOVE the free Libby app. If folks don’t know — it links to your library card(s) and you can borrow ANY book, audiobook— whatever your library offers — on-line. Read on your iPad or listen to as an audiobook wherever you do that. Yes, the library pays license fees so the authors get royalties.
I strongly recommend anything by Alexander McCall Smith. The Scottish accents and the Botswana accents are so wonderful! And the stories are so uplifting. And smart. And funny!
I use Libby all the time. I'm legally blind but never gave up my love of reading. Now it's just all audio. I use:
1. BARD https://nlsbard.loc.gov
2. Libby app
3. Hoopla
Ohhhhh is it not the greatest? And, when a book I want isn’t available, I always end up finding something I probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise! And don’t forget about Hoopla! Over there you can also check out tv shows, movies, music and there isn’t an actual waitlist. #Booksky #libraries
Our public library uses Hoopla as well as Libby and gives us different lengths for our check out time on the two apps. Definitely worth checking into for those longer books because that extra week is everything when faced with a really long book.
Thanks for asking. I’m currently listening to Trust by Hernan Diaz, but might switch to reading it because I like his writing. I enjoyed listening to The Ruins because I already read it. How about you?
The Libby app through your local library is amazing! As a teacher, I took my students to the local library for a tour. The people there were amazing! The students took the short application card home, and we returned them to the library after the parents completed them. I taught in a city SD.
If your library uses Hoopla for audiobooks then you don't have to wait in a a hold line. It's expensive so not all libraries use it, and you are limited to how many borrows in a month. But it is nice to pair with Libby if you're waiting for holds.
I started a Libby account this year. A day or so later I found a number of Libby tote bags under the couch in the guest room. It freaked me out until I realized our "family librarian" stayed in room after a convention in town a few months earlier. She had probably recommend Libby to me too.
Don't know where you are, but in CA we can get a library card from every county in the state. Then load onto Libby. So can have access to even more books!! I have library cards at about 5 counties. Options are different county-to-county!! LOVE LIBBY!
And too many people don't know about Press Reader for magazines and newspapers, a great perk when joining the Library, saved me so much money and frankly all that paper for the two subscriptions I had.
Agree with this one. Would avoid many of the classics from the early 1900’s and 19th century books on Libby since they’re hard to get during the school year. Librivox is amazing for those.
Recommendation: The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. The narrator is excellent.
Libby and Hoopla are the best. My husband, not a reader, is now a "reader" on his commutes thanks to audiobooks. He had to create his own accounts on Hoopla and Libby because I didn't want him using my credits.
Depending on where you are, check into hoopla as well, which can have lots of books Libby doesn’t have. Also…PressReader for newspapers/magazines, Kanopy for some tv shows/movies. I’m not sure if all countries/libraries offer these
I like listening to…let’s say…spicy romance books. Most of the time hoopla has them and Libby doesn’t. Especially the spicier ones. Hoopla is nice because (for me) there is no wait time (unlike Libby) *but* I only get 5 loans a month.
Holy shit, man, I’ve read 53 books this year and that’s thanks in large part to Libby. I wouldn’t have been able to afford those audiobooks otherwise and my car doesn’t have a disc player.

All 3 are great resources with a library card
Libraries on Libby I barely have to buy a book but I still
Do thanks to bookbub
1. BARD https://nlsbard.loc.gov
2. Libby app
3. Hoopla
Averaging 2 to 4 books a week.
Most Library systems offer books on both.
One great thing about Hoopla is that there is NEVER a wait for a book. You can check it out IMMEDIATELY.
I use both Libby & Hoopla.
It’s great if you can access.
Recommendation: The Jungle by Upton Sinclair. The narrator is excellent.
