Barnard is a small women's liberal arts college in NYC associated with Columbia University. I've long fantasized about working at a SLAC and about living in NYC, so this is genuinely a dream come true on many levels!
There are no mandatory teaching commitments over the Summer and the students are outstanding, so I do hope to continue doing a modest amount of research, to the extent possible.
I also want to say how incredibly thankful I am to Rice and especially to the EEB community here. The collegiality and support I have received--especially as far as my development as a teacher--have been the perfect springboard to this dream!
Another small but particularly fun aspect of this job is that everyone eventually comes to NYC at some point, so I look forward to hanging out when that happens!
