Calling #MathSky: I'm teaching a sophomore-level class this spring called Geometry and the Arts, and I'm looking to round out my list of topics / activity ideas / materials. The goal is "Here are lots of ways that geometrical ideas come up when people are pursuing their artistic practices."
Comments
Just have them do the first three letters.

I'm also curious if some of your projects or activities might be suitable for slightly lower-level students. I'd love to know what you think!

My geometry teacher, a lady in her later years, said; "Pool is geometry" and captured our undivided attention.
She had a table, and could shoot.
Our teacher, a lady in her later years, said; "You know, pool is geometry" and immediately captured our full attention.
She had a table at home.
Our geometry teacher, an experienced lady in her later years said; "You know, pool is geometry" and immediately captured our undivided attention.
Are 8x10s more/less cost efficient when compared to 5x7s on a price/square-inch basis?
How many shapes can you identify in Golden Muse?

Students can experiment with how the placement of the center of the radius affects the shape of the window. It’d be pretty straightforward to build a little vis for that or even draw by hand.

A side dive into golden ratio/other geometric preferences and our perception of beauty and impact on art as a result (maybe too philosophical)?

Pic is from an artist demand to me about this page after I did some handwaving about "geometry become algebra and then algebra informs geometry."
Artist - No! Show me how it really works!
Artist pals can inspire rigot in manifold ways.
Look forward to seeing maybe some projects presentations from your students
