"Cinema is not just about telling stories. It’s about people having experiences in front of you, where, if it’s transparent enough, they can experience it with you. You become them. They become you. That’s the communion. That’s the experience."--Willem Dafoe

Takes a very good interviewer to achieve those insights, Matt! 🫡👌
Please dig out To Live and Die in L.A.
15 years back, my partner worked at a health food store frequented by Dafoe. One of their coworkers approached him to say they’d just seen Last Temptation and thought he was brilliant in it. He turned slowly and replied “You…JUST…saw Last Temptation?”
The guy is brilliant, powerful, and comes with a bit of “intimidating”. But all in good ways.
Glad to read I'm not alone in my understanding of film.
Whew.
I finally have an articulated reason from the actor himself on why he's so fascinating to watch. Even if a movie he's in doesn't work out overall, he's NEVER the one I blame!

Sure beats digging up the comics as lore

a joy to read, thank you.
Not because it's "good" but because it is 100% intensity accelerator and no brakes.
