my favorite escalator fact is that they are designed to increase torque as the load on them increases – this is why they always move the same speed, whether they're empty completely packed.
this also means that if you get pulled into the gears, it will never jam and stop. it will just keep chewing.
That just vindicates the story I used to tell my kids when they were little, that the strange sounds made by a poorly maintained mall escalator were grinding bones
uh, I'm just recalling some live-leakish-looking video I saw, like 15 or 20 years ago, where average person does a disappearing act into one annnnd whether it was a real video or not likely one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. 🫥
Speaking of this. Did you know that DFW airport use to have walk ways you could use under the airport until they were closed off because it takes you an hour to walk the entire thing, so people were missing their flights. But it's not like they filled it with dirt, it's still there, it's just off...
As a kid, my mum always warned me about getting my laces caught in them and that just escalated every time we went on one. So I'm really not surprised this happens
This is why I hated the escalators when I worked at Macy's. I tripped over so many thighbones. Maintenance couldn't be bothered to clean the skeletons up over the course of any given day.

saw this and thought of you 💀
Escalators are the apex predators in China.
I guess that's why they have to repair them so often.
...to everybody else, please stay informed, vote blue, and do not give up the fight. And probably don't leave the country for a while?
