My youngest several years ago requested a turnip .. I’m like ok weird but ok . Turns out it wasn’t to eat but apparently way back in the days of old it wasn’t pumpkins it was carved turnips ?! Anyhow my kid carved a jackoturnip or whatever lol looked like a vampire will try to find pic.

I carved turnips as a kid here in Ireland. You couldn't even buy pumpkins. Kids now will never know the pain of hollowing out a raw turnip with a spoon.

lol mine does! On my side of the family we’re all NDN and Irish except a teeny bit German from my granny and 15 has always identified with esp Irish ancestry -ALWAYS a month before st Patrick’s day they cranked up this one tv channel that always had videos and music for holidays lol & it was lively!

Somewhere they read on the internet or someone told them about carving turnips- we’d never heard of it / 15 was probably 7 maybe ? It was really cool though and like I said lol it ended up looking like a vampire turnip 😂 was awesome! Everything here in America is pumpkin , I can’t stand them lol
