A question for Bishop Bird, of Ballarat, who instructed his lawyers to go all the way to High Court to avoid paying damages to a complainant of child sexual abuse on basis that priests aren’t technically employed by his diocese:
Did your priests accept JobKeeper during COVID pandemic?
If so, why?

No wonder so many people are no longer religious.
Bunch of hypocrites if you ask me.
How fukn low of them. denies compo to child abuse victims that they've happily covered up while pretending they care
I personally know of a couple of cases ( because I was in a position to know finances) where small private schools <200 students received $400k
Larger schools also did well but I dont know the numbers
I'll bet that does'nt appear in the Gonski figures
Was pure profit
While the High Court decision clarified the current common law position in Australia (which the states can change by legislating), JobKeeper was a federal government statutory scheme with its own rules.
More than 100 religious organisations qualified for the emergency wage subsidy despite seeing little financial impact from last year's COVID-19 economic shock.
Figures from ATO show about 3,500 religious entities received a total of $627 million in JobKeeper payments.
Reason being that they are employed by a foreign entity.
The Catholic Church lives and breathes on money and money alone.
Is the Catholic church cash strapped? Will we need to put double in the collection bowl or will a large % of the property portfolio be sold off
.... Ha🙄
Not a good look.
Power and greed their only values on full public display.
Is the Catholic Church moving into US Whitehouse with Trump and the other $billionaires? They will be a superb fit. #auspol
We need to prosecute senior clergy for protecting the abusers and failing to report the offences to the police.

Now off for some more advocacy in the face of legal system failure… the task of perpetual vigilance is never ending.
I have no idea how the church hierarchy sleeps at night!

do we know the answer?
An institution that worships money & earthly power for the chosen men.
Powerful people in all the powerful places.
Of course they were going to side with the Church!
Gleeson and Steward catholic.
Edelman IUC.
Gordon anglican.
Beech-Jones seems to be public schooled too, but can't find the specific schools.
Do the priests receive free room and board?
Do they come under the authority of the local bishop, for the line of command goes up as well as down.
Who are they again
I always respect your posts.
The catholic church has no problem paying lawyers instead of compensating victims
Great to see you here, Louise!
The Archdiocese took all the money
The Catholic Church is a sexist, greedy dishonest organisation
It allows them to keep the money in the church when they die.
Note that priests were 2nd or 3rd sons from wealthy families.
More despicable conduct by the organisation purporting to care for people.
Is it State or Federal Laws that we need to lobby for change?
How many of the 7 High Court judges are Catholic (or Anglican or any religious body implicated in the RC ...), one has to ask?
organisations...will be able to receive the JobKeeper Payment for each eligible religious practitioner...for which they are responsible under the tax law." Self-employed workers were also eligible if they met the turnover requirements.
