Would really love if Green Day would just re-release American Idiot like it's a new album. So many people have memory holed it or didn't pay attention and we really need that energy right now.

And RATM (Killing in the Name). And SOAD (B.Y.O.B.). And Gary Clark Jr (This Land). And Bowie (I'm Afraid of Americans v1). And Allen Stone (American Privilege)
I’m pretty sure that energy has already been cannibalized for capitalist purposes, just like London’s Calling was the theme song of the London Olympics.
I saw the American Idiot musical in around March 2017. If you haven't seen it, it starts with news on the wall about the president. It was all trump stuff then and it made complete sense. I'd love to know what news articles they used during Obama's tenure
It definitely works just as well today as it did 20 years ago, maybe even better. Hell, Billy Joe Armstrong even changes the lyrics whenever they perform the title track nowadays to be explicitly about MAGA. Then he'll scream, "Fuck Donald Trump," during the final riff. It's not even subtle.
they could do a special release with previously unheard mixes added...most people in the right do not understand this is a revolution record.....maybe some new art .too
You might already know this, but there are several online music streaming services that will choose almost any song or even entire albums instantly. Dookie can be yours to enjoy at your leisure.
I'm afraid of Americans too?
No one needs anyone, they don't even pretend.
God is an American.
Bowie 21 guns crossover?
Prescience in art?
Trent Reznor was Johnny so N.I.N crossovers Hurt too!
Five years?
What a surprise that's all we got.

My daughter has a conservative friend who loves Green Day but somehow doesn't understand that their songs are directed against the sorts of people that she supports.
it was very blunt, has been for years, the friend is a moron;
shit NOFX's music is even more prescient and relevent and blunt yet so many of their moronic ex-fans got triggered over their support for left leaning politics
Go to your local theater and catch the stage version. The full album plus some catalog faces, all performed by a live band and sung by Broadway-caliber actors. My teenage daughters ate it up!
I am also waiting for “Guide to the Perfect Latin American Idiot” Part 2 (Manual del perfecto idiota latinoamericano) by Plinio Apuleyo Mendoza, Carlos Alberto Montaner and Álvaro Vargas Llosa. Dedicated to Cubans and Venezuelans in Florida and Texas and Mexicans with Trump in all America🤣.
In that same vein, I often wish Hunter S. Thompson was alive today. For those unfamiliar with his political journalism, he despised Nixon and often eviscerated him in his articles (see my pinned post). His hatred of Nixon would pale in comparison to Trump if he lived to witness the open corruption.
Make the whole rerelease album just versions of that song with a different lyric in each one calling out the biggest idiots in that fantastic Green Day way
Remaster it and put the old b-sides at the end of the album, or make a few new songs to fit with the Trump era. Maybe rerecord American Idiot and change that one lyric from "redneck agenda" to "red hat agenda".
I feel like they honestly probably decided to go with maga instead to make it obvious what they were trying to say. The message of the original went over so many people’s heads that they were probably just like “screw it, we will make this as clear as possible.”
Their tour last year was the 20th anniversary of American Idiot and the 30th anniversary of Dookie! They played both albums in full! Took my kid for his birthday!
When I grew up during the '60s, there was protest music playing on the radio every day. I have a Playlist full of old protest music. I think we need more new protest music to help stir people up, inspire us, bring people together to resist the Takeover.
“So, maybe I’m the f****t America!
Won’t be apart of the red hat agenda
everybody, delete the (pr)Appaganda,
or sing along to the age of the maga mob!”
maybe like an expanded triple album and they call it "cascadian dipshit" or something and there are some capital t terrible acoustic guitar songs in there
I was in 10th grade when it came out and hated it at first because I didn't get it because I was a dumb teen. That fucking thing grew on me because realized repeated listens HELP. Couldn't get there with 21st Cenutry Breakdown.
They need to drop another banger album that hits the same energy, the last one they dropped was good and felt honest. I feel like the political situation and Billie Joe Armstrong's BAC will align for a banger in time for the primaries.
I want a rerelease of Good Riddance just for another year of TV shows playing it as a lovely ballad of loss rather than the bitter kissoff it is. My personal favorite goofy use was being sung at a Quaker funeral for a child on ER.
I’d buy it again. Took my kids to their first concert to see them in Pontiac, MI. Then the younger, w/a friend, to Cobo during the American Idiot tour.
I was very lucky to see them in 2005 & this past summer. So amazing! Their music still resonates & is absolutely the antidote for these times. They helped me survive Bush-Cheney. Which now looks like “the good ole days.” We desperately need their talents right now. 🎶
I got to see the American Idiot tour in South Florida right after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. No one had power, but we all showed up for the concert. It was AMAZING.
It was such a part of a wave of albums that came out at that time that I think a lot of people now dismiss it, and not realize that it was actually a stand-out that withstands the test of time.
Absolutely. Remember the "Rock Against Bush" punk compilations that came out? The artful response to that presidency was powerful.
Where is punk now when we need it more than ever? 😭
Can they like change all the music to something I like so I can listen to it? Can't stand green days sound. Never have. Bad religion is so much better.
You know how much media I've consumed lately, some stuff from 15+ years ago that echoes what's going on right now, it's crazy. Definitely gotta throw American Idiot on now
Amen plus it’s such an outstanding album
Sometimes the best ones need to be re-released because it’s just more good news for humanity in these crazy times
American idiot is a word for word prediction of today, that’s both horrifically accurate and fired up to burn it down and make something better in its tone
I bought the 20th anniversary deluxe edition on cd and honestly I can’t get enough of it! I wish they’d release the updated version of American idiot with the revamped lyrics.

Ministry is working on a new album. I'm sure it'll have plenty of criticism of the Orange Bastard and the rest of this insanity.

The latter has been one of my top 5 albums ever, since I got it at release when I was 10.
As long as you’re not dumb enough to actually try it”
What we once thought was a rough patch for America.
Looks like a picnic compared to this.
He only mentions bush specifically once but the rest is very powerful

That album is half Linkin Park and half telling the US government to fuck itself.
Hands Held High & No More Sorrow especially.

I see the Stephen Fry character, the TV satirist who gets a little "visit" from the goons, as Colbert, Kimmel and/or Meyers.
And yes I really do believe it could come to that.

Older, but they also were VERY vocal in 2016 at the AMAs with some additional lyric updates.
