GORGEOUS abandoned mini-mall at the corner of Laurel Canyon and Osbourne. Sunshine gothic.

American excellence
I like the lone palm tree.
I see garbage.
Gorgeous ?? Or a look into the future of America and what Washington DC will look like in a few more weeks, when PUTIN is still destroying everything with the help of ALL of his RUSSIAN ASSETS in the white house and maggots in congress
Guantanamo?
Ample parking and great air movement.
I see a Starbucks.
Looks like a screenshot from Grand Theft Auto.
Came for the "all it needs are zombie hordes" comments.
Was disappointed.
The collapse of the American middle class on stark display for everyone, but also ignored by everyone as well.
Bates Motel?
Looks like it needs a dojo
Post modern post apocalypse
That looks a bit like the backdrop for the mugging scene in “Clueless,” but I haven’t seen it in a while…
You know, that could be made into... let me think.. homes!
Buy it and open a food co-op🤷🏼‍♀️
No way
Bet there are several crime scene cleaners that could hook you up with a realtor in purchasing it.

If it gives you the scent of Mountain Grown Folgers, just disregard that.

They have to use it to cover the scent of dried blood.
That looks like a great place to hide several bodies.

I.C.E. is interested.
Don’t give them ideas.
They already probably consider those ideas beforehand.
Is that where Winkie's is?
Wasn't this where Dud had his pool shop?
A Matt Oswalt holding for you, sir.
Not very many people, but a good semi-native palm tree.🌴
The American equivalent of a Roman ruin..
You know what would go great here...
You’ll have a lot more of them c/o Supreme Leader Trump.
r/AccidentalRenaissance LOL
Gorgeous? Americains have a strange notion of beauty because there are so many places like that in the USA without any charm.
The sky is pretty.
@pattonoswalt.bsky.social - could it possibly be used to house homeless people? My daughter says these malls would be perfect. Food courts for cooking massive meals, multiple bathrooms, just no showers. #endhomelessness
This one is a mini-mall.
The hollowed out big regional malls can be re-made into amazing complexes/mini cities to meet affordable and homeless housing needs, plus social services, local retail, adult education, libraries, training centers, and RV housing in the lots.
Gothic?
There are whole towns in southeast Ohio that look like that.
Who can say it isn't beautiful? 😁
That whole area has been completely abandoned. It's weird because much of the valley has been revitalized in the last decade.
50 units, $1 million a SQ foot.
The valley at it's best.
Looks like a once thriving small business that was bought by a corporation so they could shut it down and rid themselves of competition.
Some venture capitalist POS owns that property & is refusing to put housing on it.
Gorgeous? It's a dive, it's Osborne St. in the San Fernando Valley, more Pacoima actually.
housing opportunity
They don’t make em like that anymore.
Reminds me of the Nikolaus Geyrhalter film Homo Sapiens. Also gorgeous https://geyrhalterfilm.com/en/homo_sapiens
Let's take it over and turn it into a community Library of Things. I have guitars, tools, records, books....
Homeless shelter potential?
In glorious 240p, no less..
Soon to mimic the rest of the country
"The rent is too damned high"
I thought that was mexico....
"Sunshine gothic"

So LA. I love it 🖤🌞
Let’s start a circus training center and theater company
that’s my house
Cue the Zombies Who Lunch!
The location of a Vince Gilligan drama, or a Greg Garcia comedy?

You make the call
Both: filming during alternate quarters, each gets a dozen episodes a year.
Arleta is timeless.
Minimal mini mall.
Low income housing, all, day, long ❤️🇨🇦
Need an HGTV Paul Thomas Anderson renovation show and needed it yesterday.
Diorama fodder😍
The cracked and splitting pavement really allows one feel as though their world is as temporary and artificial as concrete, or those shitty little patch jobs they do in spring that never last half way into summer. Thank god I didn't have to think about nature though, whew! 😂
You can smell the psychosphere
Hey, I know the place 😂
The back's as cool as the front!
Comment image
Do we have thousands of homeless, and thousands of un used buildings. I'm. Not a genius, but it seems they should hook up.
It’s insane, cruel and unfair.
Comment image
Thank you for sharing this.
Feeling entrepreneurial Mr. Oswalt? Used books, bakery, dirty gin bar with a stand-up corner maybe? Don't forget the California anchor, a nail salon.
*Rudy Giuliani breathes heavily*
"This place is like somebody's memory of a town, and the memory is fading. It's like there was never anything here but jungle..." True Detective
Oh, the stories that parking lot could tell...
😍
I miss papas and tacos
Gorgeous compared to . . . what? Berlin at the end of 1945?
When does SPIRIT move in?
Comment image
This looks like a set from The Walking Dead. Nope.
Probably became too expensive for businesses to operate there OR crime became a serious problem. Or something else...
Looks like a good place for a farmers market. Maybe some dry goods
You're right, it is perfect.
I always wondered what that places story was. I was fascinated that it was never bought up. I left a decade ago and it looks the same.
Seems to me that our government should demolish that…

…&build some nonprofit affordable housing…

…or a playground…

…or a free clinic…

…or something else useful to the local folks!

GOVERNMENTS EXIST TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO THEIR CITIZENS…

…NOT to help private corps make a fkn profit!
#TaxTheRich

A community garden
Whatever the community needs most…

…which I’d guess is probably affordable housing…

…& water preservation…

…so, maybe a nonprofit solar-powered hydroponic indoor garden on the ground floor…

…& 6 stories of nonprofit apts on top…

…all gvmnt-funded/run!

IT’S GVMNT’S DUTY TO PROVIDE FOR CITIZENS!

I was considering even the basic step of clearing that land of ramshackle structures, the open space could serve as a garden opportunity until other uses… eyesores gone enhance ppl neighborhood even before other development.
You have caring suggestions ❤️
For minimal funding…

…you could bulldoze it down to the parking lot & foundation…clear the debris…add an outdoor drinking fountain & shaded benches…

…& tell locals they can use it…

…but to prevent it from becoming gang territory, you need paid employees (& security) actively doing something there
I’m assuming it’s a food desert from the state of things. Detroit + neighborhoods have loved growing their own choice of fresh veggies… benches 👍🏽
Ahah, they should put us on the planning committee ✌🏽
And Mia is PERFECT💖
Good bones! Lots of potential!
Man, that could be "Something" hope folks dig it out.
The US looks so glamorous these days.
What should we be doing with these abandoned strip malls/malls? Housing the homeless in a community where they can also get services?
Coming soon: "electrical fire."
I see a Schitt's Creekesque reality show in your future.
Sunshine Gothic sounds like a 90's Gen X dramedy
I could swear it was on Santa Monica near La Brea…
I know the area well, grew up in Pacoima/Arleta. It’s sad. It’s not a wealthy area, but I have many great childhood memories of that area. I still live in the valley.
I’m picturing a strip club
True Detective Season 5. Starring Patton Oswalt and Henry Cavill. This Fall on Max.
Is it gorgeous enough to make a shelter out of it?
Or maybe a coup’s headquarters?
Uh hem, a shelter’s a good idea.
Isn’t it LA? Should be housing people
(I'll chip in to a Kickstarter if you do.)
Do a show here.
I need pictures of the inside
I would go there just to sit on the step and eat chicken wings.
Looks like bat country. 🦇
Formerly the "Rub n Tug".
Oh there are zombies in there, for SURE
Could almost imagine Jay and Silent Bob leaning against one of those walls
It is gorgeous. It is worth saving and turning into a housing club house.
You would love Tucumcari, NM.
What a cool place to organize a revolution.
Is that where the Hollywood Video used to be?
Buy it
It's got potential.
Tony B of Island Wide Real Estate in Staten Island could get this sold in one weekend FLAT! “Two stores, tree stores- very income generating, very desirable area. Call Island Wide Real Estate West and ask for Tony B.”
I need to open a Vape Shop there
LA needs to build up, not out. Places like this are an opportunity. Build apartments in the upper stories. Keep the ground level for retail, similar to what we have in NYC.
Doing that depends on when the structure was built or if you're going to tear down and build new. Many older buildings aren't up to modern seismic building codes and they cannot be built upon unless brought up to code, and that is really costly to do on older structures. Take down build new is safer
Was never suggesting they keep the strip mall structure.
You'd be surprised at how many would try.
LA is building up. There’s no place
to build out. Apartments with ground floor retail have sprung up everywhere. Problem is, these apartments are priced out of reach of most folks. This particular property is in an underserved area. Developers won’t make that kind of investment in this community.
I'd love to see what cinematic gem you could craft with this as the setting....
Sunshine Gothic!
Let's make it Dispensary/Chinese Buffet and Call it SMOKEY DRAGON 🐉
Isn’t most of LA one long extended strip mall? If you ever watched the series Lodge 49, it reminds me of that mall.
No
No?
The bent light post is probably my favorite part. Just screams “someone probably ruined their life here and now you can too!”
Feels like a place where I should be shooting zombies from the rooftop while someone in my crew unloads supplies.
Prime real estate.
This recent L.A. office that I was sent to was troubling. Since it looks more like a dystopian James Cameron miniature than reality, I was very suspicious, especially considering how many friends I have in the hidden camera TB world.

But nope, my door is the wood one, 2nd floor, near STASH.

Put a bird on it?
Was this after the Gorn attack?
Man, used to work a few blocks up Osborne from there "last century", looked a lot different back then.
A very wise person once sang...

pave paradise and put up a parking lot
Repurpose it into a community center. 🙂❤️
Definitely a good spot for the Oswalt Laundromat...
Patton's getting into the cash cow of Renovation YouTube?
A lot of potential there with some imagination.
Its location would be awesome for some cheap condos. Beside the extremely valued area there and around and the capitalist who would sell them for $700k each
Make it into a comic shop!
May the investors in this travesty eat boiled cardboard for the rest of their natural lives
Fuck Amazon.
I love abandoned stuff as a subject for art and photography. It often says more about the human condition than any shining monument.

The Google street view is pretty typical of many of the similar such areas of poor investment.

This is kinda how I view most of the United States right now.
Someone with the gift of foresight
Beauty and promise and tragedy.
It's giving Better Call Saul vibes.
Where da zombies at? 😂
The US in its prime
Is that Trump's classified document storage facility?
Re-brand as Laurelbourne or some such and she'll bounce right back.
this building is one plucky cast away from being a sitcom set
Sad - could be turned into small homes
Make a zombie movie but instead of zombies have a band of plucky rich people who are threatened with being eaten by hordes of the starving poor.
Key is plucky
I did my laundry there for several years. (Pre-abandonment.) (Strip mall abandonment, not abandonment of yours truly.)
Dude 😂
I used to drive past there many times.
That looks like most of Oklahoma.
Unit(s) available

costs less than a one bedroom apartment

new owner must promise

to open a business in one year

or

Live in security guard wanted;

Includes rent plus 2 dollars an hour for incidentals

😎
Dig it up, and plant a garden.
🎶they plowed a parking lot and planted a paradise 🎶
Don't it always seem to go?
Now we get back what we want cause it's gone🎶
And so, to please Paradise, we'll dig up a parking lot. 💕
🎶They paved paradise to put up a parking lot🎶
I feel like this is sarcasm.
With how developed Southern California has gotten, spotting old buildings is a magical thing.
Nevada City is full of interesting old buildings. 😎
Depressing
A glimpse of its heyday

Shame it can't be used for housing.
If we're not careful, it will soon be Mara Lago West.
Are you a real estate agent now?
By 2028, this will be a f***ing castle.
A perfect filming location for Clerks 7.
Why are we walking like this?
Stunning.
Looks like bones bleached white by the desert sun 💀🌵
Mr. Lynch would have been proud
If this were in Texas, it would have been converted to a church thirty years ago.

I look at it and see an opportunity for a retro space age makeover
This guy Texans.
i should start a VTM campaign here
America the Beautiful.
It needs a little spray paint to give it some curb appeal.

Couple topiaries by the door and it’s perfect!
That’s what I was thinking .. a good set for something similar to your meme 😱
What does "don't dead open inside" mean
It means you must investigate further by opening the door
I think I'd rather don't dead
I’m pretty sure this is what the “Dutchman” motel from “Twin Peaks” looks like during the day.
I saw this and instantly thought of the site where Mr C visits steam-pot Philip Jeffries! Is that the same? Is that what you mean? I can’t find the clip on YT…
Something about old mini malls. Memories.
I’ve an Idea 🥁 Let’s get a liquor store, a Donut store, a Chinese Restaurant and revitalize the center. Also a Comic-book store.
I hope there's room for a vape store.
bowling alley
Los Angeles really blew my mind, my first time visiting. Even Seattle doesn't transition from city to rural, mountain to flat, developed to abandoned quite like LA.
Lived there for 20 years. Have no kind words for LA. None.
That's on you.
The fires are so warm and cozy. Who is that on, bro?
Um, okay.
There is a website called 'Dead Malls.' Entertaining stuff.
The parking lot light fell on hard times and can't get right ever since.
Here it is in 2011 (from Google)..

Right on! Same lone palm tree behind the building is still standing.
Not putting this place down, but what you see here are results of late-stage capitalism featuring unaffordable insurance. Might want to get yourself used to these scenes… they exist everywhere
Small businesses go hand-in-hand with the middle class… both are disappearing and/or adapting to hostile environments
Blow up mini-mall, plow up a grassy lot 🎶
Ooooooh bop bop bop
@ruralindexing.bsky.social check it
Thank god they ripped up nature for this
What Fstop did you use ?
I see unutilized space for housing, in a housing crisis, that's all I ever see in empty storefronts these days
Four Seasons West!
Not a bad place to do heroin overall.
Most likely, a Church will take residents. Hopefully, one where the music is joyful.

This is about to be America in general, hollowed out, and empty. What was once a building that brought people together is now something that’s a forgotten relic of its time.
I love this.
Wanna open an arcade? Maybe a dojo. I’ll be there in an hour. With everything.
Mortal Kombat themed dojo. “Sensei, teach me to rip out a man’s heart!”
Build homes
There used to be the BEST Italian restaurant there in the 80’s.
I heard Ghouliani is doing his next press conference here.
No more liquor store shots?
Dates back to Ancient Rome or is it Greek?...
You should buy snd make it a homeless shelter or community
When people found it more profitable to leave these buildings vacant for the write off, then to have people use them is a prime example of America's backward thinking.
And i'm from Niagara Falls, so I understand that completely.
Let's make every Tesla store look just like this
With parking? Astonishing.
