I’ve made zero money doing pottery. I’ve actually lost a ton, but is it losing if you gain knowledge? …
Someone please tell me it’s not.

I'm sure, given the right moment, your art will pay you back!
Enjoy
That knowledge can be applied to your current and future endeavours.
Maybe someday in the future you'll decide you want to make pottery on the side or full-time and will invest in the equipment to do so? Now there's no knowledge barrier stopping you! :)
This one wasn't for you, the knowledge you gained will be useful for the next thing you'll try.
And it is still pretty cheap as a form of therapy. 😉
A lot has been spent.
Not a cent has been lost.
Do I regret it? Absolutely not. I've learned a lot and have really enjoyed the process. I've also been able to bring joy to others through my work, which makes me happy too. ✨
I just want to have enough. Enough to pay the mortgage, bills, to get the cars fixed before they have to be towed to the garage, to buy food and other necessities, and maybe even once in a while go to a museum or something of that nature.
That's what matters.
Consider it an investment in yourself, never a loss..
Dont ask how much money I've put into my guitar set up and I haven't played in a band since the late 90s.
Nothing wrong with that.
Keep going! There comes a day that gained knowledge is put to good use- in one way or another. Who knows, maybe the universe is leading you to marble and clay was just the intro course! (:
If I could I would do it again though, it was a struggle but also fulfilling and gave me purpose!
Always chase your artistic dreams! It makes you you
Make art for the sake of expression and personal growth.
That keeps you an artist, at the level of the soul. Selling turns you into a business person.
Plus if you enjoy pottery, there is that :-)
But the soul needs fed too

If creating something meant it was perfect from the start, we'd still be painting in caves. We'd be celebrating a million years of being stagnant.
Unless you were wagering money on your ability to do pottery, that would be losing.
(and those who do are just bitter)
Go by the old adage,
"Do what you love and everything else falls into place"
They persevered.
then its worth more than its weight in gold
Are you learning something?
Are you enjoying yourself?
Are you fulfilling a need?
Then it is TOTALLY worth it
There is nothing wrong w/the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. Knowledge gained while learning a craft and applied to it (experience) has its own rewards
I hope we can celebrate doing things we love or enjoy just for the sake of having created something joyful.
And the knowledge one gains is priceless; especially when you learn to use it in association with other things!

It's healthy to be artsy!
No it isn't you are learning how to become a means of production of your very own.
Knowledge can be another.
If you ever get marooned on a deserted island with clay, would you rather have a backpack full of money or jarred clay?
(Don’t go get shipwrecked now)
