Is anyone on here also on Storygraph? I'm switching to that since Goodreads is owned by Amazon and so far I love it. The graphs bring joy to my nerdy heart. #booksky

Yep! I left Goodreads, even though I actually liked it better. Storygraph works fine. Libro, too, after leaving Audible. Libro supports independent book stores, and you can choose who gets your $$.
StoryGraph is the best! I officially dumped GR on December 31st after many months of simultaneously using both apps. 2025 is now solely on SG and I can't be happier. I love that they actually listen to their users wants/needs and make updates and improvements regularly! GR would never.. π€£
The AI preview is opt-in so you don't ever have to see it. Also, they are only using it for book recommendations inside StoryGraph and are not selling anything on. It's a lot different to Meta using people's posts for machine learning.
Nothing you have said disproves my initial response, the message of which was a suggestion to journal instead of engage in a social media (that is by its own publications using user data for machine learning) to document their reading. Not sure why you brought up Meta? Anyway you do you dude!
Iβve investigated this today and itβs great they let you import your GoodReads data. Only criticism so far is the photo barcode scanner isnβt great.
Yes! Iβm loving the buddyread option. There is still plenty of features to add but I like it so far. Iβm wish that it was easier to find other people and interact. Would love a video feed of other bookish people and what people see reading.
I switched and it works but Iβm not a very good user. I was worse at Goodreads. Iβm trying to get everyone I know to switch too. Most of them are much better users.
Just switched over recently and it's awesome! My username is there is Awyn.. I read ya, speculative fiction, and a lot of nonfiction. Would love to have more friends there!
Why does this post offend you? Are you the intended audience, if not scroll on by and letβs not make something out of nothing. The OP is simply encouraging her audience to expand their reading genre. Letβs do better and be better in 2025 and not bring negativity to BlueSky.
I think if we want to be supportive of POC in 2025, we shouldn't be using reading apps that discourage people from heavily reading books written by POC. Don't you?
I will take a moment to educate you on reading comprehension and fundamentals, the post did not discourage the reading of material by African American authors. What it did in fact was to encourage African American readers to also read books by Caucasian writers. Am I not correct?
Itβs obvious weβre at different intellectual levels and youβre not understanding what Iβm saying so I will gracefully bow out of this conversation. Have a beautiful day!
I tried to import my data but it didn't find my doc? Idk, I'm weirdly excited to have to log everything again. It'll be a very long trip down memory lane. π
If you did it on your phone make sure the Goodreads file actually downloads into the right folder, mine didn't fully download into the right spot the first time and I had to redo it π
Iβm new to StoryGraph so thanks for sharing your profile. The one aspect I havenβt loved is the lack of any socializing (Fable seems to err in the opposite directionβsocial over a better personal experience).
I use both Libby and Hoopla through my library. Hoopla has monthly limits depending on your library, but Libby doesn't. I usually can find whatever book I'm looking for. I've only had one book not be on either, and funny enough it was one to read for the library book club. π€¦ββοΈ
I donβt know that thereβs a 1:1 alternative for KU yet because of the chokehold it has on the indie market. I used Everand back when it was Scribd, which was ok but limited at the rate I read (similar to you). Thereβs Kobo Plus, which I currently sub to, but the catalog is still growing.
I've been using story graph for two years now and it's my favorite way to track my reading. They keep adding new features and new ways to visual your reading data. So happy to see more people use it. π
I joined https://Bookclubs.com free version. I imported all my Goodreads data. The rating scale is different 1-10 instead of 1-5, so I had to manually change a bunch of my ratings, but I like having more options. There are many books that I would have rated a 3.5 or 4.5, so now I can give them a 7 or 9.
Joined about a year ago. The stats are excellent and they keep adding new features that improve the overall experience. I like it a lot more than Goodreads overall
I tried 6 or 6 library apps, but only Goodreads let me create shelves that matched my physical locations, so I know WHAT I own and WHERE it is.
I use none of the other features of Goodreads.
Does/will Storygraph provide that feature?
That turned out to be super easy! Download the csv from goodreads. Upload to storygraph. Wait a couple hours... and poof, it'll ask a couple of clarification questions. And you're up and running like no time was lost.
It's a book tracking app/site similar to Goodreads (but better!) if you're familiar with that. It's black woman owned, small team (3 people, I think) but they've made a great platform.
@bookshop-org.bsky.social is an indie online bookshop that benefits local bookstores.
I had trouble transferring my Goodreads data and have not sat down to give it time. Granted, I didnβt use Goodreads often, usually it was just a check in once every 6 months or so. Thank you for the reminder to take care of it and delete it ASAP!
Thatβs good to know.
I really like good reads but didnβt know it was Amazon.
And I hate the reading challenges they put up for each month.
A change will be good.
I love StoryGraph. Itβs a much better app and developed by a black woman. I switched in November and was able to transfer all my Goodreads history easily.
Once you get used to it you wonβt be able to stand looking at goodreads. It has terrible design and UI. I migrated a year and a half ago and itβs so much better
I'm hoping that it'll be that easy! Haha. I'm having to do the same thing with my other book accounts too, unfortunately, but that's just a chance to restart haha
Good luck with it! I hear you, Iβve only been here a week. Twitter deactivated, meta data downloading, Netflix cancelledβ¦ my big hurdle will be Audible. π
Yeah Iβm going to have to look into this. My concern has always been having a limited time to finish books. I tend to read in rounds, with about five books a round so I can be kinda slow! My adhd doesnβt do one book at a time lol
I moved to StoryGraph a few years ago and I love it, and I've read more since switching. The recommendations actually make sense, and I like the mood/genre filters.
Yeah I deleted my FB and came over here. I tried out Twitter a couple of times but was never very good at it. We'll see how Bluesky goes π if this post response is any indication I'll be okay though.
It's an app that lets you keep track of books you read and want to read. It also generates cool graphs based on what you read. You can friend/follow people if you want but the social aspect is fairly minimal; you can just see people's lists, you can't message or anything. Booklists are the focus
The use of AI is so unnecessary and so bad for the planet. Plus It's frustrating to see so many companies rely on it instead of creatives. It's lazy AF.
Yea..I moved from Goodreads, moved all of my list to Fable, deleted Goodreads and the next day all of it exploded on social media. If I'm being honest, I was just too lazy to immediately move it again. I do have StoryGraph too and I'm sort of feeling out both apps for now until I make a decision
I started using it this week and I'm loving the interface. I'm excited about the way it approaches book recommendations. I might, gasp, actually follow its suggestions!
Can someone help the old gal here understandβ¦
Storygraph?
Everand ? - more UK peeps I think I hear about it from
Fable - new to the scene?
Goodreads (in its earliest days) thatβs still a thing?
Audible - yes
Libby - through my local library
Hoopla - also through my local library.

I'm try and help out where I can! So Goodreads is where many of us were to keep track of what we were reading, connect with authors, join book clubs, leave reviews and connect with our friends. Unfortunately it got bought by Amazon and there's a lot of issues with that...
Storygraph is the newcomer in the scene. It has a lot of the same functions as Goodreads, without the baggage. It again has a lot of interesting graphs for those who get nerdy about what they read, but it's still growing up as a platform...
And of course you have the great library systems, Libby/overdrive, dreading, hoopla, and a few others which show you to borrow books, magazines, audiobooks and now for free from your library!
I used StoryGraph and I transferred all my data only Iβve really enjoyed it. Only thing I have noticed of when searching books I donβt see a way to see if other books are in a series with it. Thatβs one thing good reads did!
Iβve been using StoryGraph for at least a year now. Overall extremely happy with it and itβs tracking. Itβs only gotten better with time. Welcome to the StoryGraph club :)
Me too. I live in Upstate NY in the middle of nowhere, but can download books from any library in NYC through Libby. I highly recommend it! I imagine most states have something similar.
I just joined StoryGraph and Iβm slowly updating it and learning. For those that love it, can you share what features you like about it over Goodreads? https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/cheldohr
Today's favorite feature was how to update progress. Yesterday, it was recommendations. Each day I've learned a new feature... it's only been 3 days and I'm geeked!
Black woman owned, small team rather than Amazon. Responsive to email. Visible roadmap. Nice graph and tracking features. App has been a bit buggy tho for me and without friends onSG the interface feels kind of isolating. Not giving up on it thoππΌ
Iβm on it, but not really a big fan so far. I just want a place to list the books Iβve read. I preferred Shelfari until Amazon bought it out and closed it.
I love storygraph I have always hated Goodreads and Fable had the same problem of also being a storefront so Storygraph is my new home for book tracking.
I just started using it and I do really like it. My previous method of keeping track of books I wanted to read was a list on my notes app so this is much nicer.

Itβs βfreeβ aka itβs gathering data and metadata for machine learning and selling.

Similar to Kindle unlimited and audible but once again, a way to break from Amazon/Bezos
Hope that helps!
