As a former Illinoisian, I am SO disappointed. Folks think they don’t have to pester their democratic senators/congresspeople and demand they act in their interest. Clearly they do.
There are a total of 261 Democrats in Congress. 11 of them voted for the Trump budget. That’s 4% of our party. We can do better! Primary these gutless posers!
You can take Peters off the list. He's already announced he's not running again and he's the only one out of my senators and congressman who has never answered, including the republican congressman. He does not fucking care anymore
Unfortunately, we have someone worse. Manchin and 2025 Fetterman are about the same ideologically. The biggest difference is the fact that Fetterman campaigned on progressive populism.
The thing about Manchin, as awful as he was, he was a democrat from WV. The fact there was a democratic senator from WV still shocks me, so any time he did the right thing it was a bonus. He was better than the republican option, in PA we could have had Lamb. So Fetterman is worse
Yep, I never hated Manchin. Many of the complaints against him were baseless, like his “yacht” that he used as his DC residence that was cheaper than most senators apartments.
I've been blowing him up on the phone and via social media regardless, but unfortunately Gary (MI) is rogue as he announced a while back that he's not running again. He's a bitch with zero fucks and millions in the bank thanks to insider trading. Makes me sick.
Congress is made up of the lower body (the house) and the upper body (the senate). Jointly they are the "congress" e.g.: "Joint address to Congress" referring to both the House and Senate. My list of dem congressmen includes 10 Senators and 1 Rep — Jared Golden of CT
I’ve got the football coach that actually lives in Florida and the one beautifully mocked on SNL. It’s hopeless here in Alabama. We had a bright light of hope with Doug Jones… that was turned off by the moron that would do himself a great service by never speaking in public again.
Since we got rid of Sinema in #Arizona we now have 2 dependable senators! Actually hoping Mark Kelly replaces Schumer, (as Sen Min Leader),who is clearly NOT dependable.
It's not about spending. It's about the legislative branch of government surrendering its authority to the White House, which was a provision in the CR.
I hope this leads to an actual revolution to bring down the entire capitalist fascist system. We need our lenin now. Trump is nothing but a symptom. The American empire has always been the problem. Our founders were genocidal slave owners. Lenin liberated the slaves
I had 2! Both Democrats from a state that voted Blue! Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan both experienced politicians! They took their masks off BS your Democrats! You’re both fascist and traitors to your country and to our military, to our state and our Constitution!
Tell them

And I'm voting against the problem one in the 2026 primary if he doesn't just retire anyway, but it would be more satisfying to see him lose a primary.

I envy you that much.😉 We lost beloved Democrat Sherrod Brown in the Nov election and he was replaced with a used car salesman who is firmly up Donald's hind end. Red State, sad to say.
Other than the political victory what's the benefit of a shutdown now?
Isn't it usually the Conservative goal to minimise government and doesn't that achieve it? If it is political, people who depend on these services won't thank Dems for stopping them.
I was so excited to vote for Fetterman in 2022 but now I’m more excited to see hike primaried in 2028. He’s better than Oz would have been, but that’s a bar so low it’s in hell.
Fetterman got elected on a lie. He is truly one of Trump's puppets. I have visited PA many times, always enjoyed it. I won't be back. After Fetterman burns it down, it won't be so enjoyable.
While I am a transplant to the wonderful common wealth of PA my mom grew up in Pittsburgh and I spent a lot of time there as a kid. I lived in Pittsburgh for five years while I attended Pitt, and now call Philly home. PA is a politically complicated state that I’m not willing to give up on.
Also I’m a transplant from Mississippi, and the politicians gave up on that state when they worked to undo everything accomplished during reconstruction. But hey they were the last state to ratify the 13th amendment… in 2013
That's what happens in a capitalist economy.
And now those in control seek to remove 100 years of protections for the people. All because some couldn't get off the couch for Kamala.
The people are different as they are basically 2 different rough evolutionary coalitional survival and mating strategies. The issue is the parties both in how their think tanks work, what their donors incentivize and how they behave are both following the neoliberal Washington consensus.
"Neoliberal" doesn't just mean "things I don't like". There is an actual definition to the term and Trump definitely isn't that, not even fucking close. Hate away on neoliberal policies but at least they are a coherent set of economic beliefs.
Also I never defined neoliberalism as “what I don’t like” though it basically is global economic elite free market idealism. Though of course much more than that
Other than my points about a 1 ideology state: where one party is get rich quick and punish scapegoats and “percieved deplorables” that threatennnarrative coherence, and then a party to stabilize economy & give slight concessions to prevent revolt, what would you describe Trump as?
Do your research.
Cortez Masto, Durbin, Fetterman, Gillibrand, Hassan, King, Peters, Schatz, Schumer, Shaheen,
VOTED for CLOTURE.
ONLY Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire and Independant Senator Angus King of Maine VOTED to PASS the H.R. 1968, the Continuing Resolution Bill.
Keeping the US gov open, gives us options.
With a shutdown, all is lost.
The Repubs played it well, backing the Dems into a corner.
Schumer and the others know how the game works much better than we ever will.
Dude’s been a senator longer than I’ve been a person and people reelect him because he has an “R” next to his name on the ballot. I won’t miss him when he leaves and hope we elect someone better in his place.
I was thinking this morning about Kinzinger running against him as an independent. It would be worth it to have him on a national stage again, even if I disagree with so many of his positions, we agree on democracy. He would not have cast that vote.
Yep. They threaten a shutdown because they want to ram through their own agenda. Saying "well if I don't vote yes, there will be a shutdown". Yeah. They know that. That's why they're doing it???
Both of yours might have sucked if the Dems needed one more vote to rubber stamp tRump, funny how they always find exactly the right number of votes for stuff like this
In PA we've got a new Republican Senator and one who, apparently, is a bro. Y'know, a cool dude who thinks Trump is a cool dude.
Don't know any other way to explain his behavior.
Sen. Peters
I called both of my senators since apparently BOTH were considered being spineless.
Peters more than disappoints me on this - he’s retiring, he’s a Democrat. No reason to NOT stand up against trump.

I'm disappointed. His phones were slammed over this and he still didn't wise up
I have to move if I want to be represented by anyone that thinks I have a right to live.
Primary: Durbin, Fetterman, Gillibrand, Golden, Hassan, King, Masto, Peters, Schatz, Schumer, Shaheen.
Republicans still own this shit show. The pain and cost of a closed government will not be added to it.

Fun fact: the expression "Everything's bigger in Texas" originally referred to voter suppression.
https://www.electionguard.vote on the 'vote counting machines' will stop that.
https://bsky.app/profile/shaunc.bsky.social/post/3lkfeyphqy22t
While having a spineless dem senator sucks. Having every state level position being red sucks SO much more.
This is what my own town got to enjoy from our AG last week
Living in Texas for 30+ years has really warped my ability to discern what's possible in blue states
Isn't it usually the Conservative goal to minimise government and doesn't that achieve it? If it is political, people who depend on these services won't thank Dems for stopping them.
"Well, at least I only lost one leg when the drunk hit me"
The only government I can put any hope in is my city, just because there is a university, and even that is minimal hope at best.
But it's hard. And he owes us an explanation.
