This morning, the 8 year old replicated his 3 year old pitter patter running to our room every morning, and gotta say, that made my heart thump a little.
The animals and kids start to wake up one by one, requiring my attention and labor. I sometimes drag myself out of bed early, before I'm ready, just to have a few moments to myself before I'm needed.
This is Ziggy looking out from our little guitar-playing coffee-drinking morning retreat hut. I get up about 5:30am, make a pot of coffee and head down to sit in here, play guitar, drink coffee and watch the sunrise over the Salish Sea.
I feel u 👍 I enjoy nothing more than my Sunday ritual. Waking up, going to the kitchen, turning on the radio (classical music), making tea and toast for me and my family. Sit down and drink my tea, read the news, alone, until they wake up ☕️🎼🗞️
I get up a half an hour earlier than anyone else just so I can have my first cup of coffee in peace. It's my moment to gather my dreams and organize my day.
If only I could be asleep while my husband drinks coffee but he grinds beans and turns every light on and coughs and sneezes in the kitchen that’s right outside the bedroom door.
You need to be wearing a thick cable-knit sweater that has overly long sleeves that are pulled down over your hands and to be holding your steaming cup in both hands. Ideally, you have your knees pulled up, and are curled-up on a padded bench in a bay window with a fall or winter scene outside.
If I were somewhere more north than Florida I probably would do that and enjoy doing that. But here the weather can't make up its mind if we are going to be in the 70s or the 60s. And that is on a good day. 🙂 I haven't seen snow since the Great Christmas Blizzard of '89.
When MIL moved in with us, it took a while to help her learn what we do not make small talk in morning drinking coffee. She did grow more accustomed to this practice.
My mom used to sit in her rocking chair with her morning coffee before the sun came up…I never understood her ritual until I grew up & quiet moments became scarce☕️✨
*tea, but yes indeed. I'm at the age where I don't care that the parties still going at 10pm, I'm going to bed so I can get a full night's sleep and be up at 6am to have my quiet morning time.
My dog is chill, but as my cats wake up and demand their breakfast, they tend to sit on my keyboard and meow in my face. They are the most obnoxious risers.
