I think everyone should have freedom to play as they want, but also I don’t need to be that close to someone that doesn’t care even a little about the story.
Also, I want pause-able cutscenes to be standard over skippable. If I need bio break, I want to feel confident that pressing start is safe.
Don't blame the messenger aka the gamers. Blame those developers who put in terrible cut scenes that made me and others skip cut scenes in the first place.
My eleven year old does that and invariably a few hours later. Wait what happened with this 'person|event|thing'! Well that's the part about reading and listening...
I don't skip cutscenes, but sometimes I do speed through text boxes if they're getting especially repetitive (sorry Persona series; I love you, but you repeat shit so goddamn often)
If you have kids you don't have time to be hostage to a cutscene. That precious limited time to play should not be wasted watching an inane cutscene. Exception: the last Indiana Jones game
I just succumb to the fact that story games don't interest me. If you make me watch a cutscene I will open BlueSky. In my defense, I only play games w no forced story i.e. Apex/Minecraft just lore lmao
I havnt read a plot line in a very very long time, even with brand new games. I also play all video games on mute so I can watch TV or music. I play 100% for the gameplay or I don't play lol
Like, why ? You just paid $50-$60 for some $100mm in custom assets and labor of really skilled designers and writers and for what it’s worth, most of that didn’t go into combat mechanics. Why would you want to skip all of that ?
Back in my day, you couldn't skip cutscenes. You sat through that 30 minute scene, and if you lost the fight afterward, you'd have to watch it all over again. People don't realize how good they have it nowadays! *Wags cane*
IDK, i think it is like a warning sign for humans.
Consider - if someone earnestly says "irregardless"... I've received valuable data that I can immediately use to make informed decisions about future interactions with this person. Same thing.
Some games I still do it because every cutscene takes forever to get to the point and I find myself actively no longer wanting to continue cuz the cutscenes take forever. Once I got like halfway through dying light 2 for example I just started skipping the cutscenes. Too long, didn't care lol
lol I wish I still had time like that. I got 45 minutes till something in my house goes to 💩 and my only energy is after a 8-10hr shift. GET ME TO THE GAMEPLAY
It's a red flag because that means they don't care about context, character development or emotional connection. Unless maybe they're on the spectrum and the cut scenes convey jack shit to them.
Or some games have bad stories but good gameplay. I skipped through a lot of things in the Just Cause franchise, cuz I'm there to shoot and explode things, not a half assed spy thriller.
Im here to play games 😝 if i wanted story, id go read a book or watch a movie
theres nearly always enough context to figure out whats going on
but im not a ᴍᴏɴsᴛᴇʀ 😅 i do let cutscenes play on stream ᵐᵒˢᵗ ᵒᶠ ᵗʰᵉ ᵗᶦᵐᵉ🤣
Know someone who reads books by skipping background description and makes me wonder if/when they reread, it's like absorbing the full version of the story. Same w games
All that work that goes into creating these amazing scenes that tie everything together and help explain what's going on, but all they wanna do is pew pew pew.
I would appreciate it if everybody picked the same functions for a key. That way I don't accidentally skip a scene because is skip instead of 'next line of subtitles' or something.
Ironically the only games I do this with are extremely story-focused and cutscene heavy games. To this day I have no idea what happened in uncharted 4 besides rope swinging and cool fight scenes. I’m not going to put my controller down for 15 minutes at a time thank you very much lol.
If they want to have cutscenes that long they should let you pause, rewind and fast forward. They should probably also tell you how long it's going to take. I don't want to miss any cutscene and it's annoying when I trigger one right as I need to get up for some reason.
Depends on the game. I might watch some cut scenes but still be able to tell you nothing of what’s going on because in my mind I’m already fighting the next boss.
Depends on the game. If it's a story based game, I'll watch them because that's the point of the game. If it's a racing game or something else where the story is basically set dressing then I'm skipping that shit immediately. I'm here to race not to watch a movie.
Sometimes, the gameplay is good, but the story doesn't click with me. Days Gone is an example for me. I loved killing zombies... the story was bad as a B-side movie with super basic characters designed for rednecks. So I skipped all of it.🙊 The Last of Us 1 and 2! I didn't skip any of it...
If you think that, or you are the story target, that's ok for me, little man. I just don't know how that is relevant here, but thanks for sharing anyway... I guess 🤷♂️
I do feel somewhat bad for skipping dialogue in Diablo 4, since they hired voice actors to do every NPC for every single quest, but I just cant sit through it anymore. Dunno why they do it (dramatic effect?) but they talk sooo slooow its damn near unwatchable. I just skim the subtitles and skip thru
For me on one level with people who switch the TV channel during ads and always switch back too late, so you're always missing a few minutes of the movie. I don't have a TV anymore but my sister and friends often did it when I was young, it was so annoying.
Come on, do u also FF every movie to the last fight scene? Games today are also movies, that’s just the way it is. IMHO skipping wastes money and skilled labor
It’s also absolutely your right to enjoy whatever it is you actually like. I just think that skippers would enjoy cutscenes if they tried
Unless they are just bad, it's first playthrough not a speed run, this is why we get bits of games now, you guys finish them as quickly as you can then moan about nothing interesting or good to play
The exception to this is Hideo Kojima games, because the cutscenes are all half an hour long and at the end of them I still don't know what's going on.
Worse are the people who get mad about scenes/the story existing. Or who buy a game from a studio noted for scenes and story and then complain about it. Or who do the thing but then cry that they don't know where to go/what to do/get a bad ending/outcome they could avoid by paying attention.
Cut scenes I'll watch the first time, but my thing is, courtesy of watching sexy foreign films and Hong Kong action/Kung Fu movies, I can read subtitles quicker than the voice actors say the line
Gotta be quick to catch the fighting/boobies when there's words on the screen
I only do this, half way into the game. If the game story isn’t it. Saint Row 2022 and Evil West, I was trying to beat the game as quick as I could to get them uninstalled
It would be like skipping the first two books and right to the end of Return of the King and saying “wow how about some context! Where’d the ring even come from? Why is Mordor dangerous?”
I actually did that with the Chronicles of Narnia, went straight from book 4 to book 7 because my school library was missing some entries. Needless to say, I was very confused.
Me as a child when I started with the 3rd Harry Potter book instead of the first and was quite confused as well. Eventually gave up, and started from the first one lol.
But how do you develop empathy for the entirely disposable character that wasn't even important enough to warrant their own model if you don't sit through 5 minutes of sob story about their lost cat?
I can't believe anyone would do a quest just for the gold or whatever, it would be unconscionable.
I watched my cousin skip through a bunch of the main dialogue at the beginning of Skyrim. Had like 40 missions available and had no clue what was going on

It makes the gaming experience so much better.
Cozy.
Cool dude. Not the best co-op partner 🤣
I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy.

Buddy, I am lacking that info as well
theres nearly always enough context to figure out whats going on

I think I’m some kind of big deal with a bunch of freedom fighting friends but honestly cat boy go brrrrtt
We all cheat and watch the leaked data mined cinematics anyway...
I hate it too😆😆
now i look foolish
"Story made no sense! 1/5 - do not recommend"
"No story, I don't like reading. Would be better with dialogue 0/10"
If u want to give me a movie cutscenes I am all for it
I was given Death Stranding when it first came out. I watched the first few... and then realised 90% of the game was cutscenes.
If I want a movie, I'll buy a movie.
But the game is MORE INTEGRAL to video games.
And when a game becomes FAR MORE cutscene than game... it's not a game. It's a interactive movie.
*plays on “Just The Story” difficulty”*
*skips the story*
It’s also absolutely your right to enjoy whatever it is you actually like. I just think that skippers would enjoy cutscenes if they tried
What's the controller for?
Gotta be quick to catch the fighting/boobies when there's words on the screen
(Or if it's a Hideo Kojima game, "city breaks.")
Why are you gathering 20 burned tangy alligator livers!? You don't know!!
I can't believe anyone would do a quest just for the gold or whatever, it would be unconscionable.
