bluesky is an open source product which is unusual: anyone outside the company can look at feature drafts, prototypes and unfinished work. it is common in other companies to post a piece of code internally with placeholder text and then replace it before going live, but in our case it *starts* live

I hope that you people do accept suggestions in the PRs or here if people were unhappy with where things are going.
Still: I appreciate transparency a lot 💜.
Seeing these early drafts is what sets you guys apart!
- no pay-to-play. we won’t prioritize comments of subscribers
- we don’t plan to do Twitter-style “paid checkmarks”
- if we do add a “supporter” profile badge, it will be hideable
- bookmarks will be free (when we get to them)
I'm grateful for this platform, and I don't mind chipping in.
My request would be to add reaction options, Facebook style. It feels wrong to “heart” posts about something vile, tragic, or enraging.
also, minor note, but when i search "bluesky+" on here it just behaves as if i searched "bluesky"
@jonathanhoefler.bsky.social, you don't happen to have thoughts you care to share, do you?

Hopefully avoiding the suggestion someone with it is prioritised, rather than a contributor?
Moreover, if subscription is based on some % will be donated to a non political charity, that would put a spin on it with more ppl wanting to sign up.
Bluesky Supporter would carry the community idea further and present it in a positive light.

It doesn't necessarily have to be ‘supporter’, but it should be a more neutral term than ‘plus’. Look at what Musk has done: The constant attempts to push X's premium package on people gets on your nerves at some point. Both, the promotion and the name itself should be something discreet.

The only option to correct a mistake now is to delete the post and re-post with the error corrected. Which is not an ideal solution.
shoving the "I'm paying for the service" badge on everyone else's feed is also lame as hell.
since profile customizations are a part of the package, I assume most paying users would show it one way or another.
If it's a good value for the actual service provided you shouldn't need a visual indicator knighting you as a special lil boy or girl
For example, I pay for obsidian and anilist, both show a little icon on the forums and it's certainly a motivator
But I want it now more than bookmarks or whatever
1. will all features be self hostable? If you're using your own PDS, you pay all hosting costs anyway...
If anyone with a domain gets a verified badge I could register TaylorSwift/.net and get a badge as if I was Taylor
In fact, this problem actually happens in web browsing too. That's why Google has a huge database of phishing sites
I'd happily display a badge supporting a forum that doesn't make people who aren't paying feel like they're screaming into a void.
Bonus points if at some point there's some kind of option that lets me sort replies by diversity of opinion.
Lot of folks, want this platform to be different & sustainable, and we are willing to support (without anything in return). But even "a lot", is probably not enough.
You will find the way 💪
(some features still in development are limited by feature gates or hardcoded to dev DIDs though)
1. Long-form posts: free or paid (monthly sub or per post)— a Substack competitor w/ competitive fee structure
2. Undo—after tapping Post, give us a min or so to spot typos we missed.
3. Multiple post pins (up to 5?)
4. Video downloads
There are many better things to offer instead! Generally, I'd see Bsky offering some services that cost extra to run (post scheduling, higher media limits...) or purely cosmetic vanity stuff.
Bsky is already offering domains as a service (+ easy custom handle setup), so I see subscription perks going in that direction too.
