I have non-alc blond Belgian beer. Judging by the head on this, I will not be starting a new career in bartending any time soon. Cheers to those present & those absent but present in our thoughts! #ConfinedCocktails
I don’t really do Burns Night (enjoy haggis any other month of the year, quite partial to his songs, hate the tartan kitsch aspect), but have a thoroughly un-Scottish whisky sour. There may well be something more respectable later in the evening. #ConfinedCocktails
Oh, undoubtedly. Just not on or around 25 Jan. on principle.
I went to school just down the road from an excellent game butcher with a popular sideline in equally excellent haggis. No chance of forgetting Burns Night ‘cos there was a long queue at the back door after school!
The haggis remains excellent - I never buy anything but MacSweens - but it’s a shame they gave up the butchers to focus on that alone. It was the kind of place where if it was in season, they would get it for you, & if you needed, say, pheasant feathers for something, they’d save you some.
It seems like a tough job though, with game so seasonal. Every time I've had a source of it it goes out of business within a few years. Haggis probably more reliable!
Evening all. Mine is a glass of pink this evening and some lovely flowers. Raising my glass to @therealdrdark.bsky.social and her family. Cheers! #ConfinedCocktails
Orange juice and lemonade and the latest part of my new monochrome knitting project to keep me occupied this evening. And skiing to watch on the telly. #ConfinedCocktails
Cheers! Beer and snacks, still cooking. Trying a new red cabbage recipe, except I couldn’t get any creme de cassis today so minus one ingredient. Zoom supper with The Oracle shortly. Currently on old All Creatures on 4. #ConfinedCocktails
You remind me, indirectly, that I have not made blackcurrant gin for years, & am not even sure if there’s any of the last batch left. I do, however, have homegrown blackcurrants in the freezer…
Quarter and core, slice finely. Braise off on the hob in a large pan with some hot oil, with a sliced garlic clove and ounze of dried cranberries. Once the cabbage has collapsed, season and add two tablespoons balsamic and three of creme de cassis, takes about 15 minutes cooking. V nice.
A carbon neutral pinot grigio for #ConfinedCocktails, accompanying a Brussels risotto.
Cheers to @therealdrdark.bsky.social, @melindahaunton.bsky.social and anyone else needing a little extra kindness this weekend.
I bought the Drambuie for this in anticipation of a Spirits/Cabinet post which seems to have not materialised… slightly irritating, but hope all is well in the Godwin household and he’s just had too much work on.
Evening all. #ConfinedCocktails is on hold as I'm hopping in and out hoping the haze will clear so I can use my telescope. Naked eye views of Venus, Jupiter and Mars. Binoculars view of Saturn. Gorgeous (brief) view of Jupiter and the Galilean moons through the scope. V cold=mulled wine later!
No photography but amazing views of Jupiter and Mars. I glimpsed a polar ice cap on Mars and something that might have been Syrtis Major. Definitely a darker coloured plain. All 4 Galilean moons and cloud bands on Jupiter. #ConfinedCocktails mulled wine is sliding down nicely.
