Cow birds lay their eggs in the nests of other birds. The resident birds incubate the cow bird eggs and when they hatch the baby cowbirds push the other eggs out the nest. It’s called brood parasitism. How admirable
No animal will ever be better than humans that risk their life for strangers, in a world that teach them to be as egoistic and self centered as they can
Man, what. I know it can get depressing when the worst people are taking the spotlight right now, but there are truly good people all over. They’re not just billionaires or famous.
About 30 chimps fought for territory and yet none of them mined lithium and clear-cut rainforests so that a greeting card can play 10 seconds of a forgettable bop.
Name the best human. One who doesn't benefit in any way from the destruction of the planet, then check their other qualities. Are some chimps who fought to the death not better than them?
Even worse, though, is that many would just be indifferent and do harmful things to you and others as a matter of course. At least for the bad humans there is some level at which it's transactional, rather than just being the only way they could have turned out under different circumstances.
Oh I don’t know. That new funnel web they found is pretty awful and a lot worse than the best human I have ever come across. That new funnel web can get in the bin.
Subjectively speaking... What is the 'worst' animal?
when was that decided and by what metrics?
Who was given authority to label what the worst animal is?
The point is that deplorable acts like that aren’t exclusive to humans. And frankly I’d be surprised if any other species wouldn’t have made the same mistakes we have if they developed advanced technology and societies too.
I never stated humans don't do these things, humans are mostly horrible. All I pointed out was that many animals also do atrocities, it's not unique to our species.
I judge a human or animal on their actions.
I respect you feel that way. Humans are capable of a lot of cruelty, which is very sad. But also a lot of kindness. Humans created the vaccines, computers, and ultimately society today is kinder than it used to be. But we do have a long way to go for sure
Animals do what they do without considering their place in the world. This same thing can be said about humans; not good, nor bad, just doing what we do... mindlessly.
Well of course, it seems other species have survival instincts that extend to the survival of the entire species not the individual. Humans are the worst. 😞
Yes it’s upsetting times… but we
exist in Oneness and nothing
can alter our true reality even
though loss of connection
to one’s soul is the biggest
issue of our time.
The most important question
is What causes people to lose
connection to one’s soul. ☀️🙏☀️
That sucks; and only enables the worst of us to be even more greedy and cruel.
Most people are completely amazing. You can't have hope without high expectations.
dolphins, ducks, penguins, seals, otters, and dozens of other types of animals engage in rape, murder, necrophilia, and worse
not to mention wasps and other parasitoids exist
but on the other hand: Bob Ross, Steve Irwin, Keanu Reeves
do you really believe that they're worse??? that's a hot take
Humans are animals. We are apes. We behave the way we evolved to behave. We are greedy, tribalistic, short sighted and aggressive because back at our origins these things were an advantage. Our inability to see view ourselves as animals is one of the things contributing to our undoing.
Is that true though? Cooperation was far more of an advantage than aggression, division, or greed. Primitive communism was a thing for a reason, and that reason is that humans, by nature, want peace and cooperation because it makes our lives easier. Only capitalist lies say we are selfish by nature.
I'd recommend "Demonic Males: Apes and the Origins of Human Violence" by Richard Wrangham and Dale Peterson. Our worst qualities predate capitalism. The vikings, for example, who were slave traders, murderers and rapists predate capitalism.
You’re right that many of our worst qualities predate capitalism but it’s also important that the Vikings are not this uniformly destructive evil group. Much of that belief was promoted by the medieval church and most of who we call Vikings now were traders. The world 1400 years ago was very violent
Meh. In my opinion that is simply an apples and potatoes comparison. Animals have no moral concepts, their decisions are driven by instincts and imitation. They simply cannot be judged on the same basis as humans, for better or worse.
Well, nothing personal, and it sounds really cool, but that’s gotta be the biggest crock of 💩 going. And, Mr Nanjiani I’ve got too of the best animals going. You must hang out with some pretty messed up human beings. As for the rest of you sheep …
This is partly where we are going wrong, humans are animals, nothing more nothing less. I have no wish to have a personal encounter with a polar bear or Elon Musk but I would admire from afar the polar bear.
We are special. Through luck of evolution entirely, but we’re really pretty unique in the animal kingdom in a LOT of important ways. Our ability to pass on and seek new knowledge is a great example.
The polar bear that mauled that kid in the Prospect Park Zoo in the 80s seemed like a nice guy. Kept to himself, but was always friendly and waving hello on his way into another rock mimicking his natural environment. Never would have suspected him to be violent. It’s always the quiet polar bears.
Exactly we belong to the animalia kingdom like any reptile, mammal, or even insects. We also take hubris with intelligence, which we can't truly quantify as a general measurement. Learning Elephants mourn their dead for example should be enough to realize other lifeforms are aware in their own right
Indeed. Religion, as usual, has a lot to answer for in terms of "elevating us" above animals, but I don't really want to go into a massive rant about it :) It's too early. Need more coffee.
Also I should say, I see this less as humbling and more so hey let's not diminish other systems or lifeforms due to a lack of understanding. Like we can use fungi growth for public transport for optimal design. We look at insects for engineering. "Life" has already accomplished shit beyond us.
I don’t know—I kind of like seagulls. They sound like summers at the beach or ocean adventure. There’s something lovely about their slightly haunting cry.
It’s a hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reference I think. The dolphins left earth and that was their last note to the humans. Not sure how it’s relevant
And please don’t be a smartass by pointing out that it’s not animals, because there’s probably plenty of other examples like this on the evolutionary ladder that simply got lost to time
Interesting: Have you read Liu Cixin's 3 Body Problem? I'm the story a group emerges from society who sees humanity as Earth's biggest problem. Kinda of a depressing take, but it's a strong argument.
Why do we know they exist? WTF are we doing on the Komodo islands? They just mind their business, casually disemboweling goats, not worry about corporate profit, not polluting, staying off social media.
You obviously move in much different Komodo Dragon circles to me… I’ve never met one I didn’t think was an asshole. (Willing to admit I’m coming to this with “baggage”).
How many allegedly good people have later been discovered to have had a dark side? Ghandi, Mother Teresa, Michael Jackson, Cosby, Saville...JK Rowling...Gaiman...
Why would animals be instinctual but humans have free will, where do you believe the difference comes from? Every living thing is made out of the same biological machinery.
No, they have to use their teeth and claws and paws when they commit infanticide, which is a behavior that happens all over the animal kingdom. Pretty routinely, too.
I want to tell you in the nicest way that I think this is ludicrous. Also, humans are animals, we’re literally just doing the exact thing humans do the same way a bear does the exact thing bears do. It’s not my strongest, but it is one of my personal beliefs. Also I really hope you are doing well!
Not really---chimpanzees will kill and cannibalize their own kind, rape their females---pigs will eat their babies, cats love torturing mice and birds...just a few examples.

"As the daily energy need of an adult man is about 2,400 kilocalories, a dead male body could thus have fed a group of 25 men for a bit more than two days, provided they ate nothing but the human flesh alone – longer if it was part of a mixed diet" - from Wikipedia, in case somebody need it🤔

Also there are some genuinely dickish animals.
Had any part in destroying the rainforest, Lithium mining, fracking, child labor, etc
Move into areas of the world not suited for their bodies and burn fuels to stay warm
Create the clothing waste we do because their shoes aren't white enough.
Face it: we're dicks.

I think I know some people better than the warlord chimp that started whatever this was
https://youtu.be/5zcJs16aZ5s
Intentionally burning the homes of their prey so they can eat em is pretty fucked up
We out-dick the animal kingdom, yet again.
I've met, an admittedly small number of, people who, while they also have the capacity, I would never expect to engage with either urge.
I don't expect those animals to be able to *decide* to not engage with them in as conscious way.

Man thinks he has overcome his animal instincts but yet the first thing they do is use their animal instincts and don't reason.

our grand capacity for metaphysical awareness and our persisting obsession with competition.
not talking abt you specifically, ofc. just all of us, unfortunately.
anyways, that's my piece. love 👾

That's clearly not true.
But not chihuahuas.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah...
it's very human behavior
New Caledonian crows have varying methods of sharing blueprints, protoculture
Whales have intricate intraspecies communications we still cannot wrap our head around
Trees have fungal communication systems
We need to get over ourselves.
Hippos, anything in the dolphin family, and Chimps. fucking BASTARDS. absolute fucking assholes.
hell you know what a wonderful animal is? Sharks. they clean up the water and eat jellyfish.
....what?
I don't know what this means.
It is a hilarious, ridiculous, absurd rollicking good time and you'll want to listen to all the rest.
