I heard a lot of people talking about SILO before I connected the dots and realized it was a WOOL adaptation. Talk about something in the works a long while! I might scope it out, though I'm loathe to try any more streaming services...
Read the books and THEY were very good. Really happy to see it made into a series, rather than a movie, it really allows them to stay close to the original narrative with some extra creative wiggle room
I watched both seasons while I was waiting for Severance to come back on and I was absolutely hooked by the end of the first!
They have a lot in common, really, with secluded, generally happy people who are both desperate for information and scared of what it might bring to their status quo.
The end of the last episode left so many possibilities open. Is each silo going to have a different level of progression? How many Silo societies collapsed? Will they try to take over another silo for food or to take people, once they know others exist.
Agree, fantastic show! We binged the first 7 episodes! My only complaint is I think the music composer very closely copied the music from WestWorld by Ramin Djawadi, who also did Game of Thrones.
I agree with much of what you think and say about writing, Mr King, but respectfully disagree. Silo is terribly plotted, with set pieces that trade narrative continuity for emotional motivations. I can’t tell if it’s written for children or was the result of a TV executive’s FOMO
I mean, the whole concept of relics is ridiculous. Of course people would know what happened 140 years ago and why they're in the silo. They would have also used that big empty water space below the silo for housing. And installed an elevator.
There are still a vast amount of mystery that can easily counter all your argument. The easiest one is the elevator, my guess is they didn't put one to limit movement and create a cast system.
I think the pace has been very interesting on the last two episodes and we will learn more on the last 3.
BUT it could have been amazing if EP 3 followed the same pattern as EPs 1 & 2 where they focus on one person trying to solve a mystery, and then removing them from the story. If that had continued through the whole series we would see a whole bunch of perspectives and maybe a new genre altogehter
2) As for not knowing what relics are, heck, that’s quite easy. When you destroy a culture’s ability to keep their history, and have no libraries/internet, anything can become a relic in a matter of generations. Hell, my teenager hardly knows what a cassette player is.(2/2)
Good question! And one I think (hope?) the show is slowly revealing to us. But as a history professor I’m keenly aware just how easy it is to lose track of one’s history in just a generation or two. Perhaps it’s been many generations? Perhaps those who knew the history were slowly eliminated?
I don't want to spoil the show for you if you're only on ep 3. But their not knowing and the reasons behind will be addressed and is definitely a "thing". As a reader of the books, I'm really hoping they dive into the full scope of that
Not to be argumentative, and I’m not here to carry the show’s water, but I think at least two of your criticisms have clear defenses. 1) The Pact explicitly said they can’t build elevators. And the show has already made it clear they take The Pact quite seriously. (1/2)
I loved it but the last scene confused me and I can’t make it make sense. It seemed to negate a lot of the plot points established early on. Still a fun ride though!
I have read books, first season is around of a half of first book, but, honestly, tv serie is a little bit even better. In this story is exactly what I like - mystery in the background, something like in The Severance, such surprise on the end ;)
I'm usually good at willfully suspending my disbelief, but I'm having a REAL HARD TIME accepting they agreed to make a boiler room engineer the sheriff of the silo simply because she was named by the old sheriff...who'd just ABANDONED the silo. Like 'this guy is nuts; let him pick his successor.'

With apologies to Carrie Fisher...

Really happy with the adaptation. 👏👏💐💐

Purple and white Broncos bb.
I did 50/50 on Book 1 with reading and then audio book via Audible.
It’s a little different than the Apple show.
Book 2 is a prequel and then book 3 is a sequel or book 1.
