I only ever go there when I see something posted to reddit and sometimes I'll check out the profile of people who reply and I'll find a post like this.
It seems like the site is currently most Nazis and zionists and they've found common ground in hating brown people.
Dunbars number. Supposedly there's only room in the psyche for 150 relationships at the same time. There's some pretty interesting math behind the theorem but I'm not sure it's been confirmed.
This could be why my most lasting and successful social media experiences (that have resulted in meaningful IRL relationships) have come from private Facebook groups for very specific interests. Yes FB is a cesspit, but my lovely supportive writing community started there.
I agree! I've made some good IRL friends from niche FB groups with smaller populations. It's wild bc I hope BlueSky stays the safe space it is for more people I'd hang out with.
This is why it’s so hard to leave Facebook, too. There are people I only interact with there, and losing those important connections is too big a price to pay and feels like what the fascists would want.
I second this, I’ve been here since 2023 as well, it’s quite peaceful, and I can finally compliment others’ artwork and have full conversations without some idiot coming by to attempt to troll me.
I think the worry is that Bluesky is unfortunately going to have to make money somewhere, whether it be by wide appeal/sponsorships, or membership fees.
I very much enjoy this place, especially over the cesspool, but can you imagine the reaction if they announced they were going to start charging?
If Twitter was going to die, Bsky being good and fun was a sacrifice many of us were willing to accept. But now, people threatening that Bsky will never be big just get a shrug from basically all the people who care. It wasn't what anyone wanted in the first place.
Remember when Social media wasn't about being a brand and trying to accrue 5 million followers and having an audience and was instead just posting "I'm gay" back and forth between the same social group for eternity.
Jamelle is still getting 10k+ likes on his poignant posts and even a lot on his “I got a new cool suit” posts. Seems like bsky is operating pretty normally to me.

that's not how socializing works. socializing works with small groups
there's too much friction and drama when you try to combine everyone on one platform

You just get too much stupid mob mentality with large groups. People stop thinking critically.
