Exactly! Like failing to mention for four years that the President is mentally incapacitated and the government is controlled by a junta of un-elected bureaucrats.
Yes quit buying anything from the gas station or whole world going to burn up walk in and buy from mom and Pop store don't buy anything from Walmart anything going to space NASA doesn't do store you can trust them @trendingworld.bsky.social
Nothing but of insane politics with military weapons and cops with military weapons and fixing to be a really bad war on the ground in the USA because they did something to people they shouldn't of done all I know walking dead and zombies hiding some where and they probably had heavy duty fire suits
Read what I said on truth social media and I understand I uninstalled this app and everything else I uninstalled got squirrely and after I got those off I installed this 1 only
Christopher Hitchens favorite author. Wonder what he would be saying about trump. I know he agreed with invasion of Iraq but he was a staunch defender of freedom and hated dictators.
Everything you said was BS. I don't waste time with Republicans, life is to short to waste on explaining anything to you. If you were grounded in reality I might take the time to set you straight but it seems like a big waste of time. Have a nice day.
The thing is what is truth? It’s the people in power who get to decide what that is. That’s why journalism, real journalism, is so damn hard, dangerous, and necessary. But the real journalists are few and far between, and I know I ended up valuing my own wellbeing more than pursuing true journalism
No it’s not. As a former journalism student, English major, and woman who loved my Ethics in Journalism class, I still ended up working in advertising instead of journalism. Real journalism is hard. I decided I didn’t want to do meetings and fire stories when I really wanted to write features anyway
Conservatives view free speech of X, Joe Rogan and other podcasters, citizen journalists, the separation of Money and State (ie bitcoin) as a positive step away from totalitarianism
They view cancel culture, content moderation, many aspects of the Harris campaign, as steps toward totalitarianism
Conservatives are of two types self-serving assholes who want things to stay the same because they are top of the other pile and the self-serving lemmings who believe that saying loyal to that system will guarantee them rewards and elevation from their station.
I always try to observe behaviors but refrain from inferring the motivations behind those behaviors, as you’ve done. Such inferences are often inaccurate, based more on a “what would cause ME to behave that way?” model.
Edward Bernays, the father of public relation realized that propaganda could be used for peace as well as war. Propaganda was associated with the Germans. In perhaps the first public relations makeover in history, propaganda transformed into public relations
I think this may be some sort of brain teaser to unmask biases. Taken literally it would seem to me that most of the garbage now being put forward by the legacy media would qualify as journalist. Based on the present lack of objectivity in today’s legacy media the opposite is true
Respectfully, while a genius, he is wrong to reduce journalism to contrarianism. It's about finding and communicating truth, REGARDLESS of whether it offends anyone. That's the ideal anyways, I'm not sure it ever existed in reality.
Sometimes I believe the only difference between information and propaganda is whether you agree with the content. As I listen to all the media attempts to make Donald sound sane, and themselves as unbiased, this is one of those days.
Drives me a little batty when dead people have things attributed to them that they didn't say... and in some cases, we're told what they would think on a topic. I agree with the sentiments of the quote, but using false attribution doesn't do much for anyone's credibility.
And another -
"One cannot hope to bribe or twist,
(thank God) the British Journalist.
But seeing what the man will do, unbribed, there's no occasion to."
Local journalists have got to make a come back. There were 3 people in VA re: healthcare and abuse that won a multi million dollar lawsuit while we have been distracted. ABC was carrying the story, but they did drop the lawsuit against the pedophile. This is what happens when you obey in advance
Everything else is marketing and advertising (controlled messaging; paid media) since today, PR/Media Relations practitioners work with Journalists (earned media; editorial) on transparent, well-researched stories that sometimes take months, even longer to complete- & Journalists write as they wish
Like.. The Gun Segment - evening news everywhere, 3 stories, 90 seconds, gun crime to convince you to buy another gun. Maybe learn how to do gun crime & get on TV
Orwell at it again @fakehistoryhunt.bsky.social
[Sounding more like the one attributed to William Randolph Hearst:-
“News is something somebody doesn’t want printed; all else is advertising.”]
I knew the traditional news media had lost their way when they went from investigating the truth to just uncritically republishing government and corporate press releases as news. And spending all the rest of their time having uninformed talking heads "opine" about things they know nothing about.
Orwell surely didnt even ponder about tumblr furry yaoi scene appropriating every aspect of contemporary culture, but if 461 pages of Sonic x Mario drama is not considered a brave, Pulitzer worthy ordeal, I don't want to be right.
"Being a snitch is printing what the Information Research Department wants you to print... everything else is anti-communist propaganda funded by the IRD in thanks for your racist, homophobic, antisemitic snitch list"- George 'Snitch' Orwell
Great quote. Unfortunately I have learnt over my many years in journalism that misinformation and disinformation is also being packaged as "the truth they dont want you to know"
Where is the group of Democratic democracy loving billionaires who want to fund an advertiser free news media platform governed by well established journalistic standards
to MAKE AMERICA informed again.
Billionaires only like tax cuts and unfair business practices.
Too pious. Consider the many news stories that fit in neither category of that imposed binary: municipal council meetings, elections, weddings, weather, obits, crime, and traffic crashes. What matters crucially is HOW news stories are reported because that frames our collective awareness.
We are definitely in Orwellian times. I got a magnet of him for my fridge after the election. He joins Marx and Plato as some of the people who figured this shit out a long time ago
Thing is he sold out in the end. Orwell was an establishment twat who went to far with his Left Wing ideas then assumed every left Winger was as wrong as he decided he was...Then grassed everyone up to the secret services.
The poet and the journalist: one thrives in the twists of life, weaving beauty from what breathes; the other digs where silence clings, exposing truths the world prefers buried. Each a mirror, reflecting what the other conceals.
I was fascinated to learn of the origin of the term 'public relations'.
A replacent for the term 'propaganda', discredited by Nazis, having been used by Edward Bernase to describe his techniques, based on the work of his uncle, Sigmund Freud, for persuading people to buy things they didn't need.
I think it's about setting your personal bias aside and not twisting data and facts to fit your own version of the world. But maybe that's what editors are for.
Online journalism these days is "Generation ____ has ruined their future by paying for food instead of investing!" or "What you thought about Random Celebrity was right all along!" with a hint of actual news-worthy points thrown in

Dear God, Pravda for the crumbling and very disUK
They’ve suppressed the truth over the COVID vaxes in the name of safety for the community.
Theyve sued political opposition to prevent ballot access.
They’ve censored political opposition.
They’ve anointed a candidate with no primaries….
Any vaccine scepticism was shut down to prevent further vaccine scepticism. You could argue that’s good or bad, but it’s objectively true.
RFK and Jill Stein were both sued in every state they attempted ballot access. Just search “RFK sued in every state”
You can watch the..

cares nothing about truth…only about public relations.
Of course, the profession and practice of PR is far older than the particular label.
And even more have had such a saying ascribed to them.
I'd call it "a popular saying" or "a truism", and not worry too much about the exact details.

You can adhere to the sentiment, but this is interweb dust.
Our politicians decide what makes the news.
Orwell never disappoints.

What happened to our journalists????
They used to be hard hitting, fearless.
Maybe the citizens in countries need to have their backs.
Journalists reporting on corruption will be living a very dangerous life when the right wing oligarchs assume power.

This is no better than:
- “Everyone says”
- “I heard”
- “I did my own research” without citing said research, which is likely the first two.
