To even up the Oscars being a bit useless as always why not let me & everyone else know the film or films that meant the most to you last year, or cinematography, editing, performances, costume design, the whole shebang in the replies. Will be good to see what’s been missed.

Like Plaza a lot so will give it a go. Ta.
(I really liked both but they're tonal/pacing opposites imho)
It's been a while since a film stirred my soul & swirled around in my brain in the way I SAW THE TV GLOW did. Gorgeous.
I Saw the TV Glow
Queer
Ghostlight
The Order
Kneecap
Love Lies Bleeding
Trap
Close Your Eyes
The People's Joker
Most upset about:
Nickel Boys not being nominated for direction/cinematography
(Note: I did this before seeing Nosferatu, which I’d definitely have included in editing and design categories)
I am not sure if Civil War squeaks into 2023 or 2024 but definitely would have pegged this for screenplay, director, cinematography, and Best Picture. Actress nom for Cailee Spaeny and supporting actor for Jesse Plemons (if you can award such a tiny role).
Both in my top 5 last year and not a single nomination.
I was shocked that Furiosa got shut out in the visual effects and other technical categories. Shame there isn't a stunt category for The Fall Guy. 1/2 ⬇️
I found the highly-praised score annoying. The loud drum beat sometimes distracted me from the dialogue.
It's on Prime Video.
Thanks!
Nicholas Hoult had a stellar year, especially in “The Order”. Or “Juror #2”. Take your pick!
Sebastian Stan should be nominated for A Different Man
Where's June Squibb or Margaret Qualley
Veselka for best documentary
How to make millions before grandma dies- for foreign film
Dune 2 doesn't even belong on the lists
thanks to @gemini53.bsky.social for tagging me
Anora was my favorite of the year and i am buying the criterion release in May
I am angry that June Squibb was snubbed
Of course, I watched the latest Roundup movie last night instead 😀
Fancy Dance
I Saw the TV Glow
Magpie
Sometimes I Think About Dying.
Chris Hemsworth in FURIOSA
STRANGE DARLING, cinematography/editing
Weirdly enough I haven’t seen Furiosa even though I loved Fury Road so much which might be the problem. Don’t want to be disappointed,
No, not The Brutalist.
Also, REBEL RIDGE deserves some love.
Temples good as an overall film?
In different ways, both movies took the viewer on a mental health journey. Each with different focuses, varying levels of pain, & a bit of healing.
Inside Out 2, for me, will help adolescents and families talk about mental health like never before.
Would have liked to have seen Squibb and Margolin recognized for Thelma.
Personally, Strange Darling is my best picture of the year and its star Willa Fitzgerald my best actress. (Not oscar eligible > didn’t play in Los Angeles County in 2024)
It was sold like a noir in the trailers.
Is Harris in it much? Love that guy.
Her performance on that series is phenomenal and she deserved to win those ‘Best Actress in a Drama’ Emmys both times.
Have you seen it, Rachel?
Also up there were
Monster, Copa 71, Kneecap, La Chimera, Chuck Chuck Baby, and the Outrun.
• Furiosa (Directing, cinematography, editing, best actress, production)
• Dune: Part Two (Directing, cinematography)
• The Dead Thing (Directing, editing, best actress)
• Dead Talents Society (Best actor, best actress, best supporting)
Challengers for original score and editing.
Hemsworth in Furiosa for supporting actor.
Surprised Hemsworth didn’t get more attention early on.
