Not the best pics but this lady appears 4-5pm. We keep a respectable distance and I’m assuming the random chewed shoes left at the back door is some sort of payment. Cat less than impressed, tolerates it. Also squirrels and bird friends, the slugs and insects get fed too with old bananas and lettuce
I do get a bit annoyed with the one that sits on the top of the chicken run and peers down on them, grinning. I can't blame him/her too much for it I suppose.
I grew up on a hillside with a wood , we had chickens which were often eaten by foxes quite brutally but I still find them beautiful, I used to love watching them playing and learning, so alert , so delicate , so astute ,so refined, rolling about play fighting, so much realer than dogs
I have always said "if the foxes get my chickens it's my fault for not making their enclosure more secure", bit like leaving a supermarket doors open at night and looters going in. But I was surprised to see, on cctv, 2 of my cats chasing a vixen and 3 cubs our of the farm yard 1 night.
Indeed it does. We locked ours away every night in fibreglass house.
They spent the days around our pond, where the geese and coypu made excellent guards.
Interesting that you use the word 'brutally'. Would we apply this word to other animals killing for food or is it because foxes kill needlessly? Do they eat the chickens killed? I'm trying to work out why they have a such a negative image. Currently regularly feeding an urban fox.
Absolutely, weird that they have a bad reputation, particularly with older people. Hopefully it will change, bit like the attitudes to wild life and trophy hunters back in the day.
Yes. But don't let kittens or elderly cats out in the garden when a hungry young family of foxes are around. If they eat the pet it won't be their fault it will be negligence. It's a rare occurrence but does happen.

They aren't just cunning, they're patient as well, much more patient than any human.

The aftermath is always a shock , especially if the chickens where you friends.
Neighbours hated that I put food out for them and kept them sheltered.
Made me want to take extra care of them :)
But the photos are cool.
The fox was probably watching for 3 weeks until that changed! Killed 6 ducks but only took one.
I'm not a fan !!
