The metal arm of my car key broke off from the plastic fob like, five months ago and I haven’t fixed it yet, I just keep using the plastic piece as little pincers to turn the key and then I hope I don’t lose the metal arm somewhere

Also if you hit the brakes too hard it would die.
But seriously do the Costco thing because this was a huge pain in the ass through the dealership.
I guess my point is, be careful when you finally do fix it?
But, yes, most cars do have the ability to jam the dead fob by a marked spot on the dash and it’ll start.
For the last 2 years I owned the car, I had to open the passenger door with my spare key and unlock from the inside.
So many questions.

It's a lot cheaper than getting a whole new key with all the electronics in it.
