Trump rode to political prominence on birtherism and spent the last month of his campaign claiming that Haitians were eating cats.
The rise of authoritarianism in America *must* be understood as a misinformation crisis.

There's also seemingly no acknowledgement of a massive right-wing propaganda machine stirring this sentiment up. Where it does exist it's largely a manufactured, tribal outrage, it's not actually regular people getting so offended they go fash over this stuff. That's important.

Will Trump use your hard-earned taxes to fund his personal nonstop lawsuits and revenge?

The worst thing is people keep falling for it. So much so that some people have now fully left reality.

Just look at the podcast charts - consistently littered with right-wing bros poisoning the minds of mostly young men.
In 2 major surveys last year, 3 out 5 voters thought the US was in a recession.
This, while we were the top performing economy in the G20.
Who was telling them this BS? Who benefited from convincing them to vote against #1?
Trump and the GOP, magnified by Musk and Putin.
This country always has.
Just a long post of unsupported screen shots. Itβs like reading Facebook.

I refer to most trump voters and couch sitters as βinformation unwellβ.
My own Dad has bought all the lies hook line and sinker and Iβve done everything to get him to see the truth.
is that a mandela effect?

The people have been radicalized by a disinformation machine. Thatβs the issue. Itβs 1/2 the country living in an alternate reality blind to see it.
Who took away your factory job? Immigrants! Feminists! Trans people!
The other reason, though, is that it reifies authoritarians' own story about themselves: "We had to do this, they forced our hand."
2) Claim that every minor thing they do is in service of this awful end goal (which is actually the thing you want to do)
2) Use this imaginary threat to justify implementing your own worst impulses
And that just absolutely cannot stand
But we have to acknowledge that they're also acting on bullshit anxieties about the country becoming more diverse!

Yes America has a lot of broken systems but you also find huge conspiracy and misinformation problems in countries with much better systems! I think existing outgroup animus and sheer repetition are more plausible.

They lack the self-awareness to realise this.
elected Ds who let Kessler live in their heads will not prosper
the Ds who have not let Kessler live rent-free in their heads are much more likely to win elections in any future I can foresee
which elected Ds are capable of recognizing that? I wish I could say all of them
but some will
How do you compete with a media organization that offers 24/7 figurative BJs?
Belief is a *Choice*.
MAGA voters have agency. They hear "they eat the cats" with no proof, yet believe it. Because they CHOSE to believe it.
They have the exact same info available to them as we do. But they chose differently.

Did Birthers believe that Obamaβs birth certificate was actually faked? Or did they know the Birther claim was bullshit, and rally around it anyway, as a symbol of their hatred?
My point is that it's not as if people hear Trump lie about the cat eating and go: 'how awful, guess I'll go and vote for him now' (1/3)

he inherent racism that allows people to believe such claims
This is the truth the magaturd propaganda machine hides while pretending the opposite.
I hate everything maga & can't wait for their convictions of treason.
I'll turn my backs to them when they face a firing squad.
