No, some of us (I’m 71) are still very active justice warriors who don’t take a step back and are waiting to “beat yo (the nazi’s) ass and hide the Bible if God’s watchin”.
I’m 72 (white, female) and feel the same way. I am a retired clinical social worker and in all my years of practice, I have never had a person of color treat me badly. Can’t say the same of some white people. So no, I am not fearful and see color on a continuum. There is only one race-human race.
Hey I love this for you and I hear that it's well intentioned, and maybe I'm misreading, but in the spirit of lifelong learning I think you might be interested in why so many antiracist people don't like "colorblind" as an antiracist philosophy anymore: https://fitchburgstate.libguides.com/c.php?g=1046516&p=7616506
I understand and agree that biologically race is fictional, but it's important to remember that we live in a society and the construct gives context. Ancestry, culture, even the way we are treated in the grocery store, all of which inform who we are, are impacted by race.
I am not colorblind and understand the cultural differences and societal impact of race. But just to focus on differences between white culture and back culture is only half of the story. There are also many commonalities that bind us.
My kid has been walking the three blocks to and from school by herself since she was 8 and 100% of the people scandalized by that are middle aged+ white women
They are CONVINCED traffickers are lurking my suburban streets to snatch middle class white kids in broad daylight
Having things to be afraid of is not a natural state for most white people. Right now half of the US's white people are too afraid to leave their houses, and the other half are cluelessly discussing their protest plans on social media. (Trying to stay out of either half myself, not easy lol)
I am white, so I feel like I can provide an accurate answer on this, yes, they do. White ppl absolutely sit in their houses ALL day especially as they age, terrified of absolutely EVERYTHING. I had to remove myself from that neighborhood app before I said something really horrible to some of them. 🤣
YES but the crazy thing is they're not afraid of their own people and that's why those communities that have Serial killers they Never see them
You can't see the Monster if that's who you are
Way too many of us, it seems.
Sometimes mix it up by looking for things to get really angry about, the more trivial the better. Then we can "show them" by destroying stuff we've already paid for.
Yes. Unanimously. No white person scared of immigration has met a migrant, which is the same with most -phobes. And then the white leftists (me included IK I need better habits) stay online all day and post about it
This is why the true crime genre is so popular. White soccer moms are absolutely convinced they’re going to be trafficked from a Walmart parking lot by any nonwhite man.
This is the fear conditioning, indoctrination, and grooming that occurs on the right, especially over the last 40 years, from 24hr news, talk radio, their pastors, and family patriarchs, so, for them, yes. They're taught to be afraid of the "other" in order for white patriarchy to maintain control.
Sort of....it's like the dumbest kid in school is also from the richest family so the school instead of prioritizing education they prioritize making all the other kids as dumb as the rich kid so they will never know any better 🔁 🔁 🔁 🤍
Apparently for real this is a thing! People with an outsized sense of danger are more republican-leaning, and white people are more republican-leaning, so whether or not they mean to, this is 🎯!
Yes. my mother lays on her couch, watching tik toks about conspiracy theories and freaking herself out. She started complaining about chemtrails a few months ago. 🙄
Well....yes, they probably do. Realize that virtually no naturally born straight white person, has ever had to appeal to the legislatures or stand before robed men, to argue their very right to exist, flourish, or be safe in their lives. so they make up demons to be afraid of. We're their demons.
It's really everyone though. If the imbalance of wealth in this nation tipped towards you, you'll naturally have a fear of someone taking it from you. When life is comfortable, you have a fear of someone taking that comfort away.
I remember watching Bowling for Columbine some 20 odd years ago. That seemed to be a key point: Americans being made so afraid of everything (and everyone who's not white), constantly on edge and ready to shoot first and ask (regret?) later...
i notice the other white folks always standing on their porches squinting looking for things to be afraid of and call the cops on. I try not to go that way because they like to threaten me with the police for walking minding my own business.
Some do. Pearl clutching is a pretty harrowing job.
They've been brought up in a society where being afraid is just part of life. Be afraid of your father. Be afraid of your neighbours. Be afraid of the people at church. But if you behave perfectly you'll be safe.
Yes, they do. Most around here are terrified. All have tons of guns, too. The few I have had "words" with run when I say I am from Cleveland—scared little bullies.
I mean it is the reason why there are always “bad people” on the news. Muslims, Chinese, inner city violence. It is there to confirm their racist biases
Yeah, I used to see this behavior in a lot of older trump voter relatives but then I went NC with every single maga person who used to be in my life and I don't see them doing anything anymore. I don't imagine they've changed much tho.
It's amazing how deep in the sauce the racism is. White women are like "I wanna pet that wild tiger, I'm not afraid" and also "the city seems too scary to go out there"

They don't look for stuff to be scared of, they are too lazy and stupid to even do that.
They just wait for the TV to tell them what to be scared of.
The entire RW media ecosystem is dedicated to keeping average white people scared of everything around them.
Sometimes mix it up by looking for things to get really angry about, the more trivial the better. Then we can "show them" by destroying stuff we've already paid for.
It's truly sad, on so many levels.
I think some of us white people have not experienced being is active danger.
They don’t know how to cope or to act against what terrifies them.
Don't need to! It's other white people, and they're outside.
The most dangerous place for a woman is at home.
The Guardian
Treaties, alliances, wars, subterfuge. And when regimes fall a new tribe takes over and must find it's place in the cul-de-sac.
It's hell.
I love a good, simple cartoon, that just drops it on the floor right there, can't miss it, don't need a punchline.
Boom! 💥👏

Too much time for this folks to ask "What if".

And FWIW I feel much safer now that all the brown people have been removed from government websites.
