Google is a big part of the problem. They changed the algorithms in 2010 -that’s when this shit really started to turn. It worked so well -too. They also track all you do- which is why folks call them screwgle
Better yet, have everyone google “what happened to sympathizers after Germany fell” and maybe they’ll get the message. That’s not what I believe SHOULD happen to them, it’s just what eventually WILL happen to them.
I'm currently keeping track of the #VichyDemocrats who are supporting the Domestic Terrorist Party. Unfortunately, that list is going to be a long one.
The Gran Tetons to the the Grand Stormy Tetons. Mount Flushmore anyone? Florida to Atlantis works. Vacaville Ca. To Ivankaville. Lake Eric? Texas to Muskoxass. Help me out here Bluesky. The brainworm is eating.
But it's for American eyes only. Thank fk the rest of us doesn't have to be subjected to any more of this shit show than is absolutely necessary. They're catering to the delusion of your orange turd and it's minions. But for WHY, I do not know.
A communicable illness called trumpism. I used to say it was a mental illness, but COVID proved that those afflicted with trumpism die sooner than other Americans, and are more likely to die from treatable conditions because the illness makes them think that it's a hoax to steal their freedumbs.
You’re as dumb as every “never trumper” who wants to believe anyone knows what this means. I’m a middle aged Jewish mom. Do not expect people to know what I know. You look like a fool.
You know that most people don't have a clue what you mean. History is not taught enough in school. French-speaking has a bigger chance of knowing WW2 history 👏❤️🇨🇦
It says you can search with Microsoft instead but it’s not easy. Thank you for telling me, I’ll use it for now just because it’s not google money-wise but note privacy issue. P
Anyone who cares about the environment should try the Ecosia search engine. The company plants millions of trees and donates to climate action orgs. (As of today: 224 million trees planted, >$100 million to causes).
So the more we use Ecosia, the vaster the forest of Resistance grows...🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳
Are they switching the name just for US users ( which is in keeping with their general policy of accommodating weird country diktats) or for users globally?
This is interesting though. This is what happens when you search in the UK.
And it is still showing as Mexico on the map when viewed from here.
TBF, literally nowhere in the world will call it Gulf of America. Nowhere at all. Ever.
Maybe Google is taking a stand all but in the USA
As Google makes the change to Gulf of America, all BLUESKY needs to hit the feedback button to demand the name be restored. Also, I bet some non-US governments will push back that this is misinformation under their rules. With combined pressure, Google will have to change it back.
What blatant pandering by Google, purely to please Trump. If it was legitimate, it would be changed for all searches.
"The change will be visible in the U.S., but the name will remain "Gulf of Mexico" in Mexico. Outside of the two countries, users will see both names on Google Maps."
Get a vanity email address, like your last name .com (if available) or combination of first & last name. Domain and email hosting is around $25 to $35 a year, and it’s a conversation starter. Also, can set up email just for online shopping. When it gets too spammy, change it and accounts that matter
Drop Google, use Ecosia. It uses ad revenue to fund sustainable tree planting operations in at-risk areas, particularly in the Amazon and sub-Saharan Africa.
The rest of the world is waiting for you Americans to realise that they're taking away hard won freedoms!!! Don't you's have guns for that sort of thing?
The Gulf of Mexico rename is fucking stupid, and I'm going to keep calling it the Gulf of Mexico, but in fairness to Google, this is inline with what they've long done for disputed names. For example, go zoom in on the Sea of Japan (East Sea) or the Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf).
Yes, they were the French Nazi puppets. My grandfather was imprisoned and died in Dachau because he stood up to the Vichy government. This set in motion the rest of my family becoming part of the resistance and actually receiving many awards from de Gaulle, and even Eisenhower.
During WW2 when the nazis occupied France there was an area called Vichy which collaborated with the Nazis. Search (I used google) for "Vichy and Nazis" and you can get more information. Google is now on board with the Nazi felon ergo Vichy is the new name for Google.
My Dad fought in WW2. I have heard the name Vichy connected with Nazis. I didn't know specifics until I googled it. Rule of thumb for the next 4 years. If something comes up and you have to google always add the word nazi. 9 times out of 10 it will probably be applicable. Glad I could help.
A term for someone in the United States who is willing to collaborate with the facial regime that has taken over the country, in the same way that the Vichy French were willing to collaborate with the Nazis in the 1940s.
I have my globe 🌎 from 50+ years ago. And a permanent marker to write in all the new countries… those not made up by Trump. Will be hard to driving with it. But I’ll try.
It might just be my feed, but it seems the women of academia are sounding the alarm for our Democracy. @ellenbraaten.bsky.social @barbmcquade.bsky.social @ebharrington.bsky.social
What are we all going to do about it.
Let’s never forget that Google founder Sergei Brinn is the son of a KGB official close to Putin before he fled Russia. No surprise his company is cozy with the orange Putin disciple.
The U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN) standardizes place names on government maps, eliminates problems that arise from inconsistencies & redundancies—a boon to mapmakers and map-readers alike.
Is Google obliged to use the USBGN data? Google isn't a government agency, after all.
I could make a map of the USA and rename every town and not be breaking the law.
This is interesting though. This is what happens when you search in the UK.

Pretty sure the EU doesn't have a standardised map naming group. Each member country has whatever domestic arrangements it has.
And the UK is odd. The Permanent Committee on Geographical Names (PCGN) deals with geographical names outside of the United Kingdom but OS Ltd. internally.
I don't think it'll catch on.
Sanity is back in the room in the UK but it's having to pretend to be a bit brexity and a bit Trumpy at the same time so, naturally, everybody is pissed at it.
But still 100% better than the last 14 years of Tory c*nts.
Maybe. But they don't have to. They are choosing to do so.
I don't think they have much of a choice, unless they want to be seen as countering the orange ball bag, but they are still making that choice.

Call it Golf of America.
I don’t care.
This small dick shit is going to be around for the next 4 years.
I’m concerned about the amount of money I’m paying so Bezos can have an infinity pool off the side of a mountain in Spain.
I'm glad they changed it to "Don't Be Ethical."
👏👏👏👏
Will it really matter?

I'm renaming the Pacific..

BTW,
I worked with a
Dr Quisling.
Weird and did unnecessary procedures.
I can’t even begin to tell you of his weirdness.
"The change will be visible in the U.S., but the name will remain "Gulf of Mexico" in Mexico. Outside of the two countries, users will see both names on Google Maps."
Sigh.
Imagine. We coulda had…
It would be a shame if Google Maps received millions of corrections to the name of the Gulf of Mexico.
As in, what they're doing to Trump's balls.
Why not name the Gulf between your collective ears The GULF of VICHYSSOISE?
Puppet, especially a puppet regime that carries out the political will of its conquerer.

I’ve already deleted the maps.
I sure hope others don’t follow suit.
