Hello! Earlier today I got scammed and it was really fucking weird. My agent told me I would be on a podcast with a guy but there was a pre-call and and all they did was make me trundle around in facebook business manager and add an email address that I control.

As a cybersecurity/IT student i don’t know much yet but! mister hank you’re an important person so you deserve important safety!
The only weird thing that I have noticed is that, right after the call, I was somehow added as a manager to this page. I cannot figure out how to remove myself...Any thoughts?
It sounds so stupid but it worked!

Because, one way to remove yourself would be to just delete the page
Perhaps they want you to be legally liable for whatever that account is going to do in the future. Very weird!

No idea why. I think they maybe were hoping I would run ads and they could get Credit info.
Most confidence scams start off with harmless stuff, the first steps are always to build rapport. It's to lull the mark into a sense of security, 'hey look I told you it's legit'. It's all for a later payoff once trust is established.
Hank, definitely cruise through that left bar for that info before you remove yourself 😅
Then they put 2FA on the Meta account and presumably used it to do... something with stolen CC info, knowing they would bring the hammer down on my account
What I wound up doing was making a fake Instagram account, linking the fake Insta to their Meta account, then unlinking all my real accounts.
I... think? that worked? It hasn't been a problem since
and young people get scammed pretty often, actually! Even professionals who oppose scammers have gotten scammed in the past.
On FB, if you have someone’s email, you can invite them to manage a FB page. It doesn’t do anything, but I’d still change your passwords. 🙌🏽
If this isn't your page that should get you out!
https://business.facebook.com
Log in as the account that was affected, and click on the drop down on the top left to get to the affected business portfolio.
*just happened to walk a new client through setup yesterday 😅*
What are they accomplishing? Did they ask ChatGPT to make the scam and the bot code?
It's possible these guys were just trying something to see what would happen. (Admittedly it's odd that if they were just practicing, they would START with a big fish like Hank.)
If you are just clicking around in your OWN facebook, how do they get to you to click on the link that captures you???

Just spitballing here...maybe they would fake technical difficulties and attempt to convince you to swap in their email as an admin later? Or maybe this scammers is just woefully bad at their job lol
"Hello , are you a fan of Hank Green ? If yes , send me a direct message immediately"
I did not engage. I suggest no one engages.
