Joe Rogan’s theory of politics being “I’m just a little podcast man who just asks questions” is starting to ring hollow even for some folks in his audience.

I used to be an avid Rogan listener back in 2017, stopped after made his right wing. He has ALWAYS been disingenuous when it came to responsibility. Cites academic research to sound smart when it serves him than washes his hands of accountability by just being a “dumb comic.” Peak bro masculinity.
The playbook of opinion-pundits like Rogan, Pirro, Shapiro, Ingraham (etc) is to ask questions without ever answering them. Doing so would mean taking a position, which means they would have to defend it then.
Pretending that they're "just asking questions" ignores the fact that they choose which questions to ask, and which ones not to, to lead their audience to a pre-determined conclusion
It's like they're getting their audience to play a game of Mad Libs, but they're not explicitly telling their audience "the category for this Mad Libs is 'why Democrats suck'."
Joe Rogan would never tolerate if a guest came on his podcast, and every time Rogan asked their thoughts on a topic, the guest replied "You first, Joe".
Bill burr does. At least one person that calls him out on his shit. Wish more guests would do that, even the guests have an agenda and use the useful meathead to their advantage.
like he isn't an alt-right pipeline toll booth tender just like Tucker Carlsen used to be, only "asking questions" leading disaffected young men into the jackboot store, and up the block for a fitting at Hugo Boss.
Rogan is basically Limbaugh 2.0. Except this time, he’s trying to create a veil of showing these billionaires as “just another bro like you!” According to his audience, he’s supposed to be a “champion of the everyday man,” but if you look deeper, he’s basically their puppet with a seat at the table.
When you have the power to majorly influence the US election, facts and evidence matter. The best line I have ever heard a guest say on his show was from Bill Burr.
“I’m not going to sit here with no medical degree and listen to you with no medical degree, acting like we know what’s up”
I recently ran into someone I knew from grad school. Six or seven years ago, he was decidedly left of center and a proud feminist. After a few years of listening to Joe Rogan, he’s now a dyed in the wool Trump cultist and QAnon nut. The person I previously knew is completely gone.
Actually to the person prior to you in the chain. Elizabeth.
Basically her friend was putting on a show of being something but his true self came out,as did for many bros, when validated by many (when numbers overcame cowardice)
Had to let go of 2 friends before the Biden win because 1 crushed on Rogan & would argue his points as if that was the end all & the other friend a gay married woman just shrugged her shoulders at the homophobia friend 1 said was "his right to an opinion".
100%. Sometimes he would have (actual, credentialed) scientists on, and I'd watch those. Sometimes he'd have wackos, everyone knew they were wackos, and you'd just eat popcorn and enjoy the wackiness. Then the wackos got netflix deals, and people think they're authorities...and here we are.
This is real.
Even the semi- informed of us can get caught in 3 hour conversation. There is time to develop a view. By the end of that you can be convinced of what these giving you.
That's why no one should get all there news or perspectives from one source.
Not sure where “decidedly left of center” is exactly but I’ve learned that people are not where they SAY they are on the political spectrum and who they SAY they voted for. I judge by truly knowing the person or by off hand comments they make.
This happened to my dad over the course of decades listening to AM radio as a long haul truck driver. He went from an intellectually curious atheist to a bible thumping Trumpist constantly ranting about Muslims wanting to kill us all. I don't recognize him at all.
He riled up his listener base for many years now. Things are getting real and now he isn’t a republican or a democrat, just an independent thinker. Like nah dude, you are complicit and part of the problem.
Sad but true! My impressionable son, desperately in need of some “bros” after being raised overseas, has fallen ‘right’ into this trap and it’s so disheartening
I think one thing we all should realize is how right coded much of the "independent" voter base is. They're Republicans, they just don't want to identify as Republicans.
Facts. Despite how many people SAY they are independent thinkers, they voted for a guy who lies about literally anything and everything. I’m sure they spent a lot of time researching the issues (yeah right).
"Independent thinker" doesn't have a very flattering meaning to it - nowadays most people who describe themselves as independent thinkers are the ones who have blind faith in "trust me bro" arguments and bend over backwards when Trump backs down on his promises which has happened already with "big"
I've learned over the years that the self-proclaimed independent and free thinkers are usually the ones who've mainlined the kool-aid the hardest. I immediately am on guard around those folks.
If you had told me in the early 2000s the host of Fear Factor and boyfriend of Survivor 2 villain Jerri Manthey would be a political kingmaker and crown the host of Apprentice as President in 2024, I would have said what kind of dystopian hell is that. #Idiocracy
I used to be able to cherry pick interesting guests/episodes and ignore Rogans wacky take, but that's no longer possible, not listened for 6 months now.
Sadly Joe Rogans affect is like the boiling a frog analogy. He used to be sensible and caring and left leaning! Since Covid his views got warped and his viewers think it is the same old Joe…It isn’t! He is a massive part of the problem and prob the reason Trump is back for f$ck sakes!
Well pre Covid he actually leaned left and that is when he gained his audience. Well he has taken his audience on a ride down his algorithmic rabbit hole since Covid! He never interested me!
He defended musk's salute by saying that's how the pledge of allegiance was done before the Nazis came to power. These people are ignorant and deranged.
I mean it was done that way before the nazis came along. And the nazis are why we changed it. What a weird comeback for him to say…The South African apartheid supporter is just old school saying the pledge? Rogan is a tool.
I feel that way listening to the Diapered Dictator speak. He doesn't know PEMDAS but swears his answers must me right while everyone else can show their work. It's like having math taught to you by the dog of a professor.
The word swastika means well-being or good fortune in Sanskrit. I'm waiting for the MSM to use this excuse when/if Elon decides to modify the X logo. On a personal note, this feeling of overwhelming dread & disgust comes over me whenever I see these Nazi symbols displayed so openly in 2025 America.
How many German babys do you think were named while the Nazis were in power who had to change or hide their names afterward. It will be like naming your kid Donald or Elon after this presidency comes crashing down.
Here's what you can't comprehend.
It's a conversation.
Liberals..can't have those UNLESS it's with people that think just like them.
Rogan..has multiple guests on. They talk. They don't agree. But they have a conversation
Your failure to do this..is why you lost in Nov and is wokism is dying
Spotify offered him $100 million because he drew in the audience.
Spotify didn’t make him.
He was big before Spotify.
It’s just that people complaining about his show made others more curious about his podcast.
People who "just ask questions" are almost never just asking questions. "How many children were molested under your watch?" is not just a question; it comes with implication.
Joe Rogan is the guys in my 9th grade English class who swore that wrestling on tv was real. They also drew battles on notebook paper. That is okay in the 9th grade, not as an adult who has his own podcast and used to emcee people eating bugs.
If you listen to his actual real life good friend Alex Jones, Rogan himself doesn’t even believe that this is his theory of politics, and knows he’s a political actor (though I know we should take anything Jones claims with an ocean of salt lol)
Joe Rogan is seeing the his podcast and endorsement of Trump is costing him viewers. Now, he is backstroking.. Joe Scarborough of MSNBC effect. The lesson to be learned here is to be careful who you endorse. It can come back and bite you. I will NEVER list to Joe Rogan podcast now.
I recall him complaining about the reach of influencers who had no substance to offer. No real life experience or expertise. He found it to be illegitimate. Do they hear themselves?
He always generally aligns w/Republicans bc he thinks there’s nothing wrong w/the wealth gap, billionaires deserve to have & hoard their wealth, & the working class can suck it. So I don’t have to hear him talk abt Luigi to know his take. His take is the same as everyone else w/power.
I don’t watch him, but I’ve seen clips. It’s not my cup of tea bc he talks to people who are not educated on a subject as if they are or “interviews” experts in a way that presents conspiracy theories as equally weighted to their expertise, & I’m sure that’s entertaining to some but not informative.
I used to watch him a while ago as I enjoy controversial guests and I try to get as wide range of thoughts and opinions as possible. For me it wasnt dramatic stop listening, more like he no longer captures my interest
I encountered Rogan twice in the mid 90's when I dated someone who worked for a Vegas comedy club called catch a rising star. He was kind, welcoming and fun. His standup was average but as a human he was funny.
I don't know who that person is today. Like so many-some cash changed everything.
It sounds like Rogan is trying to deflect because he loves what the first amendment allows him to do, but does not want the responsibility that comes with his actions.
My view is if your platform or brand makes you money, your actions become open to scrutiny.
It’s like a kid who wants to pick what to have for dinner, then complains that the dinner of hostess cupcakes made him sick. He acts like he’s not quite sure how that happened?
Agree and well said. I think your idea and specific of folks taking responsibility under the guise of not knowing how something happened is the crux of the problem.
To those of us who are sane we would refer to this as a lack of personal responsibility.
He has called himself an idiot on air, so why the heck would anyone want to listen to him? He has people on his show who basically sides with him on stupid stuff that’s been debunked. He continues to deceptively disperse lies and misinformation to his audience. Spotify doesn’t pay musicians, but him
Sure is. Now he’s pretending Elon didn’t do a nazi salute. Just too close to call, huh? I mean the guy did it PERFECTLY!! TWICE!! Nobody is possibly this dumb. He’s willfully ignorant and that is way worse and more dangerous.
I wonder if younger viewers thought “just asking questions” was genuine anti-establishment instead of the rhetorical device to sow distrust in the other side’s arguments.
I don't think that he cares. All he thinks about is power. I think that the American men did a place for them to get help on issues, not to hear how bad their lives are
I stopped listening to Joe Rogan years ago when he started talking more about politics. I didn't listen to his show for that stuff and I don't think most of his listener base do either. On his current trajectory, I don't see his Podcast staying Number 1 for much longer.
Can’t even lie I listened to his show for years cause I came from the MMA community, but now? Man it makes me sad to watch his descent into the oligarchical circle. Seems like a bizarro version of the smoking MMA addict who told jokes and liked to talk about aliens that I started with
True but tbh he was the left’s to lose and we fumbled him. Dems need to take responsibility for becoming irrelevant. Bernie won over Rogan, while the Dems stayed sabotaging Bernie. They want to ally with Cheney, villainize Rogan, and get mad that nobody takes them seriously as a moral authority🙄
His Reddit and instagram comments are FLOODED with people who used to like/listen to him and are disgusted. The Reddit is almost a hate subreddit now 🤣
Thats so funny, because I used to be a huge fan and stopped listening during COVID. I still visit his subreddit though because its so cathartic to see so many others pissed off at him along with me.
Same here. Last time I watched was the Trump interview and I only made it 10 minutes before realizing he wasn’t going to ask anything hard or hold him accountable in anyway. Went to the subreddit and was happy to find a lot of people were disappointed.
that's me! I used to listen to him way before it was JRE, when it was him, Redban (ick) and whoever he was touring with. They sat around traded tour stories, talked about their sets, how they write their material; it was a real BTS thing, then he started getting non-comedian guests and I nope'd out
I'm one of them. I stopped listening around like 2016ish because it stopped being astronauts and mycologists and a weird guy who saw aliens when he worked at area 51 and started being alt right bullshit like that dude who went to Russia to fry his brain while detoxing.
I got out later than you did. I appreciated that he was having on people on the right and pushing back. But after awhile he became so obsessed with fighting woke shit that he found himself in bed with villains. Now it's honestly unlistenable. It's literally the same shit every podcast.
I have no interest in Joe Rogan, Dana White, Carlson Tucker, and Sean Hannity. They're spineless butt-kissers and will say or do anything for a buck and high ratings. If they're not lying they're crafting questions to support their own biasedness.
I actually have never "listed to him without (my) biased in full swing". "Your" a person who can't spell words properly or articulate a cogent argument.
Like the Covid vaccines prevent you from getting it and prevents you from spreading it. Those "trustworthy" sources that repeated that untrue narrative.
It was the truth and you're playing word games. If someone says seat belts save lives, everyone knows they're not saying no one who wears a seat belt can ever die. Vaccines reduce the odds of infection, and the vaccinated have lower *all cause* mortality than the unvaxed. Lying asshole
Well said. Just like pneumonia and the flu. They're never a 100% guarantee however the number of people that die each year is reduced because of the vaccine. One would be naive to ignore the other factors that increase death rates such as having diabetes, HIV or other l
immunological diseases, etc.
I've listened to Rogan without bias. It comes off as a shtick. "Ah shucks, I'm just a dude asking questions". He's good at the shtick, but it's a shtick all the same. He does something well though - he gets people to open up. So in that, he's getting the job done.
I have. I used to be a fan. He changed and betrayed the trust of his audience to support red wing brainwashing. They’re all in on the lies so maga no longer lives in reality
All the US does is lose. I absolutely hate it here, and the worst part is that I'm essentially trapped here. Cursed; doomed to live around you smoothbrains until I die.
Why are you infiltrating this obvious leftest platform? Your cult leader won. Shouldn’t you be happy ? Or you get off on trolling people with different opinions than you?
As much as they hate most people on this platform, it's like their lives are incomplete without an enemy to hate. It's kind of why I suspect that if they were the only people left in the world, they'd viciously turn on each other.
I mean I’d rather have everyone migrate over here snd have discussions instead of not talking to each other. Plus it would stop supporting Musk’s platform
You mean listen to the troll who used to host Fear Factor and get people to eat bugs for $10,000? No, never listened to him. I have better things to do with my life.
That is sad. You might learn something and why he has 14.5+ million followers just on Spotify and many tens of millions elsewhere.
You’re missing out on being a more well rounded person.
Good luck
i called joe rogan a conservative grifter to my dad (whos seen all 2000+ episodes) a few months before the trump advocacy stuff, he replied with "no he isnt" for the same reason you said. slightly vindicating even though my dad is completely down the pipeline and probably wont ever leave it
Several are following suit on that money train. Russell Brand was Left of Center, had a spiritual (not religious) podcast, has written good books. It only took a couple harassment allegations & the allure of big $ for him to covert to Born Again and full-on MAGA.
- Support the investigation on voting fraud.
- Contact your local representative & demand Trump to step down on grounds that he is damaging and dividing the country.
- Seek to reverse/block his policies.
- Prepare to protect your loved ones and others of value.
- March and protest.
It is a famous right-wing position, Alex Jones, Tucker Carlson, etc. They think it will shield them from defamation suits and accusations of disinformation.
Questions with no legitimate cause are concocted bad faith questions. Ask Alex Jones how that defense went in the Sandy Hook litigation.
His appeal is to adolescent males looking for a role model ..he talks shit and young insecure males soak it up..the new alpha male characteristic leans toward stupid
That’s really what’s going on. As with most of these right wing media hacks, they put money over all else. And the more money that’s heaped upon them the worse their views get. It’s like they get a brain transplant
He had the charisma of a shaved gorilla scrotum who thinks not understanding basic math makes him a “deep thinker.” Just give him a card with “flip me over” written on both sides and see how long it takes to figure it out.
He started out that way, believing he was sticking to his values, but the Spotify deal changed him. With the money and praise, people reinforced his power, telling him he could do anything. Eventually, he saw his show and cultural impact as more significant and lost his way after that deal.
but I'll add that he is definitely very loyal to his circle of comedian friends. sometimes it feels like it's just a circle of "yes men" bc they are all just complimenting Joe non stop but Joe is also always only talking positively about them too. very loyal group.
He was already trash before the Spotify deal. That deal cost Spotify but not enough to cancel Rogan. Now you have Dems hand wringing about Harris not going on his show and Trump suing CBS for billions over editing of a Harris interview. That's after getting ABC to lay down for him.
He got the spotify deal because he's a right-wing hack who could lead low information voters to the far right. We have to get this the right way around in order to understand properly.
It's sad. Once people reach a certain level of success/celebrity, their sense of self-importance skyrockets because they're constantly validated by their fan support and popularity. Once the ego takes over, they're gone, and only become worse human beings. 😢
Sometimes when that happens, clearly not Rogan, people are intelligent enough to understand the situation and their changed status, but little guys like rogan just get puffed up by the flattery and slide down. They aren't capable and never were able. They weren't hired because they were smart.
THIS! All day every day for far too long - THIS! Had a convo with friends earlier today discussing this very subject.
What do we know? 🤷♀️
And yet, we call BS on his whole schtick. Have for quite some time now.
If you haven't, I suggest listening to 16th Minute of Fame by @jamieloftus.bsky.social. In her Manosphere series, she talks with guests to define the danger of "Just asking questions" guys.
While we’re at it, some of that energy should go Bill Maher’s way. He’s another “I’m just asking questions” guy, but who wants to be seen as an intellectual.
Being an actual intellectual requires intellectual integrity, which in return requires examining your own biases critically and skeptically.
He’s always been one. When he was younger he could pretend it was edgy and contrarian. But he’s a deeply unserious person trying so hard to be taken seriously.
I would hope so! Questions are fine when asked correctly without the ‘Whataboutism’ attached to sway opinion rather than presenting facts to sway opinion. Joe is a hack and essentially part of the Nazi style propaganda machine. 🤷🏽♂️
Man I work in the blue collar industry, proudly, these MFs see Rogan, and Dana White as some sort of expert opinion anywhere between medicine and politics, like WTF. You ain’t part of their club, even though you bought that SnapOn tool box for 20gs u r not rich. Bunch of suckers.
Very, very true. I am not sure how we wake them to the reality of a creep like Joe Rogan. He is all in on the dictatorship. He is all in a seeing women lose their rights. He is full MAGA.
I agree w everything except the women part. Women are them selves to blame with the turnout of this election. How many women have their rights away by voting for the 🍊🧌🤔? Women of this country had two chances to have a woman in power, they chose to vote for men. I rest my case…
That’s the problem actually he wasn’t always like this he used to be reasonable even progressive but he changed after building trust w an audience for years they didn’t realize he no longer could be trusted.
im just a lil podcast guy that loves this establishment its definitely not related to anything in my big contract with spotify or the institutional investors i swear guys i am not politically aligned
I smelled his macho-man’s-man hyperedgelord bullshit immediately. I’ve never listened to a single episode, and block every creator who shows a pattern of posting clips of him.
Despite sniffing this out early on, initially finding myself at odds with his off-putting caricature of a podcast, and confused by his popularity and large audience - I regret to admit I did listen to his content preceding his anti-vax bs, mostly for the guests he would have on.
There's a new podcast about him, "the Know Rogan" podcast, with Mike Marshall, and Cecil (off of Cognitive Dissonance).
They take a sceptical look at him and his guests. I've been listening to the first one, quite good.
He's using the annoying Tucker format. Ask stupid questions while acting ignorant. The Trump interview was a joke, he didn't ask any tough questions and when he would ask an interesting question he'd guide Trump to the answer he wants, Trump is a suck up, he'll say anything and mean nothing.
It's a business enterprise well funded with the intent to spread misinformation, dangerous desires of hate towards others, without guardrails and with a false sense of indignity and pretend it's a public service.
Well, he is just that.
The reason for his popularity mostly is becuz of that,
and that he allows his guests two hours to explain themselves, asks questions that many of us would ask, but the M$M won't.

Jordan Peterson and Elon helped.
…have you ever tried DMT?
Last good thing he did was News Radio (the sitcom).
He even offered bonus points if the bugs were eaten.
They lived in the pod , they ate the bugs and Joe Rogan was happy.

Always comes down…
He's never met a conspiracy theory that he doesn't like.
No one should or will ever let him forget his part in what is coming …for what I fear will be hundreds of thousands of Americans
-he has blood on his hands from Covid already
Because *after* the Nazis came to power only people who want to be recognized as a Nazi do that salute!
It's like he's subtracting when every sane person is adding.

There's video of him being sus as well.

He died as a little man and was born as a manipulator of little men.

It’s a great format of just talking for hours.
People realizing Rogan is an imposter and turning their back on him, to me, that’s woke. And that’s exactly what he persecutes.
