Musk threatens to fire federal workers who don't respond to an email. Makes no legal sense. Like Trump, he seems to be doing it for shock and awe. Even if it makes no sense. How could the government even read and respond to all these?

Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

This is why he is such a unique liar - he repeats the lie that has been repeatedly debunked and discredited, even in front of him (as it was in the Oval Office the other day).

This sort of gives away the "liberal deep state" nonsense. *There has never been a Director of the FBI who was a Democrat. *The Republican Directors were not targeting conservatives, if the word "conservative" has any meaning.

I’m gonna log off but like as a journalist you need to push back on this framing, even in a promo post, you can not say this without indicating that it’s a falsehood meant to justify a power grab.

Jumping over a 20 dollar bill to run into the street and pick up a penny.

Elon’s busy schedule today is claiming astronauts were left in the ISS for political reasons, getting corrected by an ISS astronaut, throwing a fit where he calls the astronaut a slur, then complaining that we should deorbit the ISS

This is not about efficiency. Giving federal employees purchase cards saves money - it reduces layers of paperwork and red tape. Imagine running a business where you stopped employees from purchasing anything. The goal is to shut down government by other means.

is it good if over half of americans think we currently don’t live in a legitimate state?

Trump rode to political prominence on birtherism and spent the last month of his campaign claiming that Haitians were eating cats. The rise of authoritarianism in America *must* be understood as a misinformation crisis.

The other website is pretty much done

DOGE Claimed It Saved $8 Billion in One Contract. It Was Actually $8 Million. The biggest single line item on the website of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team appears to include an error. Aatish Bhatia,Josh Katz, Margot Sanger-Katz and Ethan Singer nyti.ms/4hVfn8w

The most shocking thing about this is that anyone took him at his word.

“There are currently four people remaining over there to do the work of 15 people. The danger to the national airspace can’t be understated." "This is a very real threat to the American flying public.” EXCLUSIVE ⤵️

The short, medium, and long term consequences of what Trump and Musk have done will be devastating. Families will be ripped apart, careers destroyed, and the US will be totally unable to respond to whatever political or financial crisis inevitably results from Trump's cruelty and incompetence.

Tom Homan confirms on Fox News that he's asked the DOJ to investigate AOC

again, this is the easiest political slam dunk in the world find a veteran with a lifetime of public service who has been fired for no reason and bring him on television with you do it again tomorrow with a different veteran, and again, and again show the human cost

Kevin Hassett’s COVID model, which he was in no way qualified to create, predicted that American COVID deaths would be at ~zero by May 2020

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

They’re marinating in right-wing paranoia there. No matter how savvy or smart they imagine themselves to be, prolonged contact with that kind of crazy will absolutely warp their understanding of what “normal people” think

when I was a kid in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, instead of snow days we had smog days where we weren't allowed to go to school.

Yikes. I hadn't seen this video yet, only read about it. It's legitimately the two of them laughing on the most watched cable TV news channel as Homan directly calls out the "agreement" they came to, even as the DOJ is inisting there's no agreement. This should be filed in court...

American insurance companies — quietly, and with little government pushback — have assumed an outsize role in mental health care. People in pain are paying the price. On Feb. 20, join us for a virtual discussion about how insurers interfere with mental health care. RSVP:

It's weirdly difficult to remember that Trump's popular vote margin was /less/ than Hillary's in 2016. Biden got more votes in 2020 than Trump got in 2024 and Trump surrogates all under-performed in congressional races. This is not a mandate, I don't get why it is being portrayed that way.

A billionaire who has attached himself to the federal government while sucking massive amounts of money from it thinks *other* people are “parasites”

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

The problem with scouring Medicare and Social Security for "waste" is that they inherently don't provide a return on investment. They exist to help people who need help and often can't help themselves. To much of the far right, this in and of itself constitutes "waste."

of all of NYC's corrupt mayors, Eric Adams may be the most corrupt but corruption pays off under Trump

"This woke has cost us a fortune and cost us our reputation." What the hell does that even mean? His mind is just a soiled diaper filled with grievances and gutter gossip.

I can’t believe the Supreme Court said the president was above the law and now the president is acting like he’s above the law.

the “lawless decision” here is “the president does not have the power of the purse and cannot unilaterally cut or dismantle agencies established by congress”

NEW: The Trump administration is not backing down in its effort to slash spending and reshape the federal government, despite multiple court orders explicitly restraining the president’s sweeping actions. By Jake Pearson and @anjeanette-damon.bsky.social

Framing cutting CFPB as a taxpayer benefit just so corporations can get back to freely ripping people off. Meanwhile, $19.7 billion in consumer relief.
