This would amount to a massive tax cut for the highest paid people in Britain, paid for by higher taxes for low earners and big cuts to public services

Flat rate just another excuse to cut the taxes on the rich. More trickle down bullshit from Badenough, rapidly becoming the UKs version of Majory Taylor Greene.
If we are to ever eradicate homelessness, food banks, child poverty we as a country have to take the bold steps of taking anyone earning less then £20,000 per annum out of paying income tax & increasing the burden on those vastly better off.
So I wonder what it is about a massive tax cut for the highest paid people in Britain, paid for by higher taxes for low earners and big cuts to public services that makes it attractive to this nutter?
Actually, if it is accompanied by the law governing what must be taxed and paid, on penalty of incarceration for even attempting to avoid payment it would probably yield much more from the wealthy.
Why do I see tweets about Badenoch on Bluesky : the woman is an irrelevance , she has no power , she probably will have disappeared within a few years . You are wasting your time commenting on her sayings and her doings
The irony that it craps on a large proportion of their voterbase, yet that voterbase happily turns around and takes it while enjoying non-existent benefits
Bloody good job this nutcase will never be anywhere near government isn't it? Much as I wish utter oblivion to the Tory party, if it is to survive, it will only do so by sloughing extremists like Badenoch.
More evidence that Badenoch says things thinking they are profound pearls of erudite wisdom, but in reality she is shallow, unoriginal and will back track from this aggressively when challenged. Is she really this grand thinker?
Basic arithmetic tells you that the rate would have to be cripplingly high for most people in order to fund public services at even their current level. While the wealthy would, of course, enjoy a huge tax cut.
I've got absolutely no time for her, but an (eg) 30% rate that the wealthy *had* to pay would raise more for the Exchequer than a theoretical 60% rate, of which they pay an effective 10% rate after extensive tax planning.
It's the effective rate that matters for tax yield, not the theoretical rate.
Or just replace the current dogs-dinner of a taxation system with a very simplified system like Denmark has, which avoids most of the tax loopholes rich people abuse to avoid paying their share.
It's hard not to laugh at the bizarre stuff she comes out with, except it's not really funny.
It's fascinating how the Tory Party membership has a total inability to connect with reality, and elect someone who isn't completely toxic out of the box ...
I have another great idea:
People pay taxes based on the length of their first name(s).
I’ll start: Max
Now you *Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke*
And of course: *William Arthur Philip Louis*
It’s in the TPA manifesto (30%) flat rate where councils bare the cost of ALL infrastructure. Double plus for wealthy as council tax is not tied to earnings and of course a huge hit on the poor.
Giving the wealthy even more money to spend on their private health insurance; private education and creative accountants!! While the rest of us watch public services go even further down the pan! Great thinking!
Means there probably won't be enough funding to pay for essential public services or investment. For many, any tax cut will be eaten up by private health insurance, higher travel costs etc. Only higher earners or the already wealthy will benefit.
Has the potential to really destroy social cohesion. So if society disintegrates, the quality of life for the wealthy will become grim too. They will go down the toilet along with the rest of us.
There seem to be a number of people who are totally oblivious to the importance of a good social contract to governance. If people feel they are getting nothing from society, they won't support it. And we are all then screwed.
Even the Tories used to have a fair degree of understanding about this. Not sure they do now. The Parliamentary party are essentially a bunch of second raters.
Simplism again, they know their audience. It’s attractive if complicated stuff intimidates you, and you don’t care about stuff actually working. These contrary positions taken primarily to fill column-inches in the right-wing comics are debilitating to meaningful discourse on how to fund government.
Not so sure. Bear with me. Flat rate on income tax, capital gains, dividends etc. would mean high earners paying very much more. Hasn't thought it through.

We'll that's a vote winner!
In the lead up to 2026 elections, if Badenoch is still mumbling, pish like this the tories will be toast, especially as Reform are on the rise.
Greed is good eh? We have the backing of the UK establishment eh?

In other news Shakira's meeting me in Nandos tomorrow for a date.

Terrifying thought...

Politicians should take a IQ test. We must have a mandatory minimum score.

If so - carry on!
