Exciting to watch Elon Musk pivot so elegantly from making his cars toxic to the demographic most likely to consider one, to making his Starlink a national security risk for all the governments who might have wanted it.

Exciting? Exciting watching a guy who obviously needs deep psychoanalysis and therapy to deal with all thee self-obsessed narcissism he has, along with his megalomaniacal quest for absolute power? He's as dangerous as Trump and Vance, if not more-so.
My bad. E forgot that Europe had Monty Python and Spitting Image, along with Yes, Minister, Yes, Prime Minister, and ov course my favorite, Rimmer from Red Dwarf.
My Mom died during Trump's first Administration, so E take his actions toward blue-collar and paycheck to paycheck people very seriously and am deeply angry at him.
I'm (not) excited to find out that the US government will be using taxpayer money to purchase two Teslas and a Starlink subscription for all Americans.
That's the "good" thing about malignant narcissists with psychop. traits—ultimately, they always self-sabotage. Jst a shame that they can cause so much harm to others beforehand.
Elon wants to be an edgy anti-hero, but he is becoming more of a soulless monster that deserves nothing but contempt.
"While it’s impossible to know how events might unfold, I am probably on safe ground to quote Aiden Gillen’s character, Petyr Baelish, from Game of Thrones: “Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder.”"
Buying anything from him is a risk. He is a strategic power-seeker and will lie constantly to promote his interest and slice any person’s throat without a second thought.
I think too many folks confused his lucky streak with him being a gifted businessman, him included. He is now demonstrating that he is a terrible businessman. He will wreck all he built and much more besides
Starlink is basically now only intrinsically long term useful to the US government + US military-industrial complex, US civilian customers, US commercial airlines and airlines from countries whose governments don't oppose Starlink dependency
Also risky for any domestic company that might find itself competing with one of Musk's companies or not aligned with 100% of his political and business ideologies.
Which is to say: all of them.
Gonna need to hedge. Which is at best not without cost.
Still no-one has explained to me how that's going to happen given they're run by states and swing states either have Dem governors and/or liberal supreme courts.
Claim corruption in the voting. Send in “observers” etc. use the courts. Simply refuse to leave as it’s corrupt. There’s not way on this earth is he leaving peacefully.
And in states where Republicans are able to put their thumbs on the scale through gerrymandering and voter suppression they're already doing it to the maximum extent possible. Not a lot of juice left to squeeze.
Not being able to imagine a specific mechanism is the least comforting form of insurance.
I agree and I basically think the reasonable projection from this point (or, indeed, most pts between now and the election result) is "Dems in 2028, Trump twice-over one-term loser" ...
I think the key issue will be with Dems trying to get their message out with both social and legacy media being aligned with Trump - the elections will likely be “fair” but that’s a significant thumb on the scales
Who cares though? There are other viable options for Europe and Ukraine. No one in the right mind would sign a Starlink contract and I know for a fact that Eutelsat aren’t crying over Musk blowing up the reputation of Starlink. Let them stew in their own juice.
And this calculus is why Low Earth Orbit communication constellation ends up like GPS: every major power will want their own in orbit as soon as possible
GLONASS 🇷🇺, Galileo 🇪🇺, BeiDou 🇨🇳, Quasi-Zenith/Michibiki 🇯🇵, GAGAN & NavIC 🇮🇳 all exist in essence because no great power wants to be 🇺🇸 dependent
This was on my mind with him wanting to get it into air traffic control as a key infrastructure. They stopped Chinese tech but are actively adding in home grown USA tech run by a man who seemingly answers to no one. He could stop air planes flying once that is in place. Madness given his personality
Given the litany of crimes he’s been openly committing recently, starlink will be the least of his worries when the democrats (or hopefully one day a reformed GOP) return to power.
No it's not actually useful to us either because when Dems win elections or if the GOP ever does anything he doesn't want Musk uses his monopoly on Space comms to sabotage shit.
It's now a deadly mistake for anyone anywhere to use StarLink.
Starlink is only useful to US government corrupted by Elon musk, who should probably get life in prison after the 32 investigations by a dozen agencies are finished.
Who trusts a drug-addled, corrupt megalomaniac serial liar with sensitive info?
Does it matter? He can tank his wealth and he’s still grotesquely wealthy and in the top 3/10 ….and multiples more than his ‘boss’. Power is surely the game for him.
maybe not but isn't a lot of his "wealth" tied to the valuation of the companies / shares of - ie what others would pay. and regardless I
of what he can buy, if his worth dropped him to the 2nd or 3rd richest he'd probably take that as a massive insult & kick to his ego. we can hope, anyway.
Well, he's obviously looking for a domestic monopoly position for himself. /s/
Everyone in the US gets a Tesla and a Starlink phone, whether they want one or not. And maybe a one-way joy ride in a SpaceX rocket if you're especially good and obedient.
I'm waiting for one of his cretins to actually suggest chipping everyone like your cat or dog. I'm sure they can dream up some ridiculous pretext for it.
Silly question to ask but amongst the other things you might say are wrong with Musk but do you ever get the impression he's just an immature man, like a wee kid who's never grown up and likes to play with what are not much more than expensive Lego?
If you compare his bore tunnelling business you have to ask who is going to back it as a commercial or public concern. There are plenty of similar projects around the world but all those have had pretty compelling reasons to be undertaken ie there is a need and really no alternatives.
Or you could say he does have the Midas Touch... Everything Musk touches makes him money, but also causes him problems. Remember that Midas' power was actually a curse – he nearly died from starvation as he turned all his food to gold.
“He's King Midas with a curse
He's King Midas in reverse.
He's not the man to hold your trust.
Everything he touches turns to dust…in his hands.
Nothing he can do is right.
He'd even like to sleep at night,
but he can't.” https://youtu.be/sWh0DOAfc7A
He's fucked Tesla big time, irreversibly destroyed Twatter. Crashing ♾️🚀 . Police protecting showrooms. A rush to find Starlink alternatives (of which there are many).
Probably one of the most hated men alive. Things going well for him

So go ahead and say something else like that.
is not Elon's strong points either.
(Note: Disclaimers underneath noting that it was a satirical look at thee Hitler Youth git on Pixy Sticks would be a bit helpful.)
I would, personally, not want Mr. Slim as an adversary, but Elon is built different I guess.

Unburning those bridges is going to be tricky
He will say anything.
I can only presume the guy is the luckiest moron in history.
For anyone else it's now a liability
Which is to say: all of them.

It'll be a shock and a jolt to jump to OneWeb/EUtelsat, and you'd need a lot of base stations very very quickly

My betting days are behind me but I'd be surprised if the bookies are even offering odds on this one.

The rest of us just can't fathom the game of 4 dimensional chess he's playing..
He is like king Midas except his ability is to turn everything he touches to toxic.
