Is the battery new in the cartridge? Gold/Silver can have battery issues that will mess up the save game retention. (You probably know this but just in case!)
Gold with the Green GameBoy? That was my childhood. I actually still have both, in great condition.
I would suggest, if it's not too much, for him to play Red/Blue before Gold/Silver. It makes the experience so much better.
Oooooh, I hope you have a fresh battery in that cartridge. I'll never forget the day I lost all of the Pokemon I caught over 5 years when my Silver cart died.
Amazing to hear his gaming journey is going in with some amazing hits.
Also shoutout to having the same gameboy color. The speakers going out in mind so I may have to have my kid play on another when he’s old enough to do so
Gold was my first Pokémon game! I played the gen 1 games a little bit on friend and family member’s Gameboys, but of course never saved over their files, so I couldn’t get far into them. Gold was the first one I beat! My GBC is the dark purple one and I also have the clear one. 💜
I played Gold all the way through with each starter, and then when Crystal came out I did the same. Almost completed the Pokédex too. Gen 1 and 2 will always be my favorite, though I still play the newer games as well 💖
I mean, I have watched every episode of Doctor Who back to 1963 including fan reconstructions of the lost episodes that the BBC discarded in the 1970s. So I think I've got some good nerd cred.
