I was that way with Indian food when I was pregnant. Despite living an hour away from our "local" place, we were there at least once a month, or Mama wasn't happy. And had to order enough to have leftovers to take home for the next day
My family lived in Asmara when I was eleven years old. Learned to make Zigni starting with boiling and peeling Roma tomatoes. It was a great adventure and the smell of berbere spice still takes me back there.
Hello, if you’re thinking about replying to this with a “joke” about Ethiopian famines please instead log off and carefully place your phone in wet concrete
I craved injera SO much when I was pregnant. No surprise, my kid loves Ethiopian food. Sadly my spouse can't tolerate it anymore so I haven't gotten it in ages.
I'm the only person in my family that likes it and my favorite place only does the mixed plates for at least two. I'm just going to have to stuff myself.
Once I figured out why pasta is on the menu at Ethiopian restaurants, I’m super looking forward to ordering doro wat and zil zil tibs when I visit Rome.
Was it served on a giant tablecloth-sized slab of Injera? That's probably my favorite thing about Ethiopian restaurant dining, it takes "playing with your food" to the next level. 🤣
There is (or at least was) a hole-in-the-wall place in Reston some years back and I still dream of the food.
I also dream of the Ethiopian food in West Philly (look for the mosque with the green roof and just pick a restaurant), which is much closer.
...I just love Ethiopian food.
Most of the food I would attribute to the Irish does seem to revolve around potatoes it's true. They're again, I don't think of much as "Irish food" as such - to me it's more the cooking method. Everything has to be cooked into oblivion! At least that's how my mam comes 🤣🤣🤣
I was working on an outreach project in King County Wa. and happened upon an Ethiopian restaurant. I was looking for program sponsors and the owner invited me in and fed me the most amazing lunch. They became a program sponsor and I got to eat there weekly. They taught me so much about community.
We just got Ethiopian food here, and I've really missed it and I'm very excited. It's currently only open on Tuesdays so I haven't had the chance to try it yet.
How far afield do you go for it? Our local place is Shagga Coffee in Hyattsville, and it's really good! We used to live down by U Street and there were so many delicious options there.
