I've seen the same account on Masto offering invites codes for bluesky at 4 hour intervals on some days, dissuaded me from even trying to get rid of my paltry 5.
I thought I was going to get SUCH good mileage out of this meme, especially when Twitter turned really anti-semitic. What a tragic waste of my Photoshopping time.
And yet at the same time you have people like Neil Gaiman who have hundreds of thousands of followers on here/millions in the other place & aren't getting any codes for some odd reason. (I'm guessing it's just weird bugs)
I haven't been able to give them away from the beginning and I've been here over 6 months. The couple I persuaded have abandoned it. " 'No one's here' " and they just want auto generated stuff. Which is what we're trying to get away from!
It's even more codes. You get the first one exactly 240h after your first login. And then it's a bit about activity and number of active (!) users one pulled in. I get by now 1 code per 4 days, others more, still others with a really big, active follower base have gotten packages of 100 in the past.
The info I was looking for! So in fact there's a system, and it's not being performed by some nerdy underlings munching espresso beans and poring over spreadsheets.
Okay, good to hear about. Sure, I see the spontaneity and relatively unfiltered interactivity - all very refreshing. Maybe it's just The Time and they're opening the floodgates to many who are waitlisted...
The invite codes that I gave away are not being used. Or remain dead profiles. Impatiently searching for the "better platform" and greedy to have "as many followers as before on Twitter", people turn away. (Or back to X?)
off topic but i just love that picture of walter koenig and nichelle nichols, she is so gorgeous and looks so in love with her pet, and he is looking at her so softly
I'm here for 6 months now and it IS going the distance. It already came a long one. There is just one singlemost important topic which will decide about that: can we keep most of twitters toxicity out (keeping it on the current Twitter 2015 level) or not.
It's up to us.
I've been here over 6 months and have already been seeing a lot of the same annoying behaviors the last month or two. I personally don't want to rebuild Twitter. At all. I was rarely on that one because users were just there to get their evil jollies.
Interresting. I think there already must have been serious algorithms at work. I started January 2010 and up until 2015 it was extremely civil and nice there (the occassional troll nonewithstanding). I left toxic facebook around that for good. But yes, algorithmic circles have always been a thing.
I started in 2018 on Twitter. Itβs been frustrating because Musk has (from my perspective) actively tried to make things worse. Or maybe he really is just a bad CEO.
Both. Definitely both, if you hear what people at SpaceX and Tesla are saying.
I mean - at Space X they have special "Elon handlers" to keep him occupied just so that he doesn't interfere with actual work in the company. Twitter was just totally unprepared and lacking skilled handlers.
