I just got back from a couple days in Montreal and the city is wonderful but it's a little weird being around unarmed citizens with healthcare who understand three syllable words.

Well we don’t hate all individual Americans. Just your regime, the people who put it in power, and the people who aren’t actively fighting it. Which is, um, a whole lot of you. But typically the people who coming up to visit aren’t those people
Beautiful city. The last time I was there, they had a huge protest about George Bush and America. The signs were incredible, and I walked in it for a few blocks. I was thankful I could say I was from Vancouver. It was technically correct.
Genuinely shocked you travelled to Canada and without being detained,

I'm not even remotely being sarcastic at all
Travel seems like such a risk
Might also be an excuse to search your phone. The law is all murky on that, especially at the border. Probably going to leave the phone behind if I travel into Canada for some bicycle touring.
It just seems sinister. I can understand searching cars coming into a country, but if you’re on your own side of the border, wouldn’t probable cause or a warrant be required?
Just stumbled upon this and know Montreal so thought I'd help...check out Hotel Bonaventure...it's a Wonderful hotel, one of the best I've ever stayed in!!! They have an amazing outdoor pool/hottub/sauna area. Enjoy Montreal!
And the seamless slip from French to English. Le sigh, cannot wait to return to the haunts my son showed me when he attended McGill. Dumplings! Almond croissants! Dollarama! Lola Rosa!
Also, I once stayed in an AirBnB near Parc and Rue John Kennedy and one night a battalion of armed (yes!) soldiers disembarked from a bus to a nearby soldiers quarters- but aside from the usually staid and cordial Montreal policia, that was the only time I saw guns in a
Dozen or so visits.
I'm not going to lie, I would totally cross the street to avoid one. But other than that, life is pretty good here. We are still gulag-free. Check back in after our next election though.
That's not a murder bird, this is a murder bird...

It feels very alien to be around free, thanking people in a land of clean air and free healthcare, I’ve been to Montreal before, and it was totally the opposite of where I came from
The border has become a portal! Head north as an 🇺🇸 & return to calm, peace & normality.
Head south as a 🇨🇦 & be Qd on your opinion of Drumpf then denied entry & banned from entry for 5yrs. (Latest 2nd hand story of 🇨🇦 couple wanting to drive to their property in Florida ~ another for sale sign soon!)
We have a few that you can taste in the air. Nothing beats the insult to your sinuses when you drive over the Burlington Skyway Bridge heading toward Niagara Falls.
I remember during the FLQ crisis in
Downtown Montréal when there were military on the streets and it was so unsettling to see guns out in the open. I hoped we would never see that again.
Only went to Moe’s a couple of times, Chenoy’s and Dunn’s most of the time for smoke meat but my favourite restaurant which no longer exists was a Greek place in Ville St-Laurent called Diogenes, best souvlaki ever
As a Canadian living in America... I do miss the days I could give another driver the finger for cutting me off and not worry about getting shot. Or ringing the wrong doorbell. Or existing in public spaces. Or going to sleep in my own bed.
I am in a interesting business relationship. Our sister facility is near Quebec City and we have been partners for 5 years. Now the red hats I work with consider them an enemy of the state. It's phooking nutz!
Passport pictures are the worst. They’re dark and you can’t show your teeth whatsoever. Had mine retaken b/c they noticed a tiny spark (my tooth) as I didn’t close my mouth completely. Boy do I look miserable. LOL
My first trip there I stayed in a hotel in Chinatown. It was the most languages I had easily ever heard at one time like the second I got out of the cab.
Ah, ahhhh yes. And “feel misunderstood and can’t talk to others so avoids others” - I think it’s a wild swing between some extremes that slowly balances out (in my experience)
I love that city. I went there for a week when I was 19 and took the train from New York. Pulling into the city at night my first thought was why the fuck did my parents choose to raise us in Pennsylvania when this place exists?
I thanked my mum for choosing Montreal to immigrate to. We tried Denver, but she just couldn’t settle after 2 yrs there.Montreal took us in, taught us about good food, and living a good life full of art, music and culture. I’m forever spoiled, as few cities can be spoken of in the same breath as Mtl
I find myself speaking in a "toddler voice" when interacting with the majority of people then have to reset my brain when I meet someone with normal cognitive function. 😞
You mean the kind that actually put their hearing aids in… instead of having the attitude that I’m old and they should know that. Like when they are driving at you more than half way in your lane… they should just know.,.

"At home, locked in a safe, ammunition locked in a different safe, different room."
"Wow, that's . . . safe."
"Yeah."
"Can you tell me about your healthcare system again?"
"Ok, but would you like one more espresso first?"
You're welcome back anytime. Thanks for supporting Canada. :)

This sounds like a new record.
Dozen or so visits.
It’s blasphemy to go to Montreal and not eat poutine
Have you “lived” if you’ve never indulged
At least that’s what the lumber jacks did. Keeps you warm.

Did you see the police force ? Holy hotness!
Montreal is the young and the beautiful.
Good morning and how are you?
Here’s a Montreal Cocktail Bar Crawl, I prepared for a friend’s visit enjoy.
I'm saving this, if you don't mind, for our impending visit

but we take your point.
Greeley makes the northern part of the state up into Wyoming stink like shit. Not sure why. But it’s a thing
Man I miss that city.

Pure chaos here.

You'll be back on our 4 lane superhighway of stupid in seconds.
Beautiful!
I'd be going out of my mind otherwise
Americans like you are welcome at my cookouts there once we get settled
