As a former English teacher, I had stockpiled enough “The “office”supplies (that I had purchased myself, particularly GOOD PENS because the school district bought the cheapest, most uncomfortable pens possible), especially pens, that I thought they would last through my retirement. 5 yrs in,I’m good
Years ago I bought some purple and pink pens for work because I didn't like the ones they normally bought. The plus side is that I didn't lose pens anymore. The guys in the plant considered them too girly. The shipper / receiver went to orange one so the truck drivers didn't take them. 🤣🤣🤣
I need a 12 step program....LOVE pens, pencils, colored pencils, coloring books, water ink markers, alcohol ink markers, watercolor paint.....oh the list is endless.....
Someday I will indulge the strong temptation to spend all my money on fountain pens. In the meantime you’ll have to pry my cheap Pilot G-2 out of my cold, dead hand. I buy the refills in bulk.
I spent 10 years in retail in the '90s. I worked in office supply stores. I was also a purchasing agent and ran the art department. My husband jokes that if anybody ever got killed with a pen I could identify it by the wound and put monk to shame 🤣.
My wife used to have an obsession with pens and pencils, and I loved partaking in the obsession too. Nothing is more fun then being at the store looking for new pens & pencils.
came right to the comments for some prime recommendations...
I get all the love, but I want your best choices, because, let me tell you, my latest is the Pentel Energel .5 needle tip and mmm so nice.
what is yours? I need to know!
yup! it's made out of maple. he turned it on his lathe and gave it a beautiful finish. i got to pick out the hardware for it and the refills are easy to find. i love it.
I feel you. Have some in my shopping cart to color coordinate with my bible tabs. Yes, I need them because they won’t bleed through. I almost got a fine point pack of colored sharpies, glad I resisted because I already had a pack at my desk. Also addicted to journals.
It's important to have the correct writing instrument for the task being performed. Sometimes you need a propelling pencil with a 0.7mm. lead. Sometimes you need a fountain pen. Sometimes you need a fineline marker. You need them all!
My husband saw me drooling over a Lumos Pro duo pen and got it for me for Christmas along with ink etc.. He gets me, and he knows I would never splurge that much myself. I love him. 🥰
I haven't done much writing with it, as I use it for drawing but it is a dream to use. Incredibly smooth. The machining on it is so good that you can't even see the join between the two parts of the pen. Just black ink for now but I want to get some of the waterproof Japanese ink.
And by extension, stationery and art supply stores. Everything organized by color and medium. Yes I’ll take a fountain pen. Yes I’ll take some oil pastels. Yes I’ll take the pen with the .38 point—in fact, gimmie 3!
Me at Joann's the other day deciding if 20% name brands + not having anywhere else to shop once they close for good is enough to justify clearing out their stock.
Sorry, Rosa, I am faithful to my stainless Parker T-ball Jotter. Each one I've had lasts OVER 10 years of riding in my pocket with my keys!!! It has a large refill, so I only have to change it out about once a year. (If someone wants to borrow it, I don't let them out of my sight. Hehehe)
I write out my notes for work on paper. I have multiple colored pens because I cannot stand seeing everything the same color.
Learned that from a college roommate who took notes in lectures with multiple colors. Geez - his notes looked like they were done in a word processor.
Oh! Love this! Fun question, what was The Pen for you that got you started? Mine was a Zebra Sarasa Grand that a guest left behind in the bar I worked at. It became my favorite pen and then I started looking up pens online and just sort of spiraled from there lmao
It’s pencils for me. I want them ALL. I found two pretty big packs of mechanical pencils last night I had tucked away and you could have sworn I won the lotto. 🤣🤓
I went to buy a toner cartridge at the office supply store, and the entrance of the store was full of pens and stationery... I did literally say, "Curse you, retailing geniuses! For you have found my weak spot!"
For me it’s pens and notebooks. Kid asked last night if I had a blank notebook and I was kinda offended. Sent her to a shelf that she could shop from for her ideal notebook. 🥴🫣😏.
This is so me! It used to be that if I couldn't find my current favorite pen at work I would make everyone stop what they were doing an empty their pockets.
My niece came over with a friend when they were 11. The friend says, “Your aunt has a lot of pens.” My niece says, “My aunt really likes pens!” Her friend says, “There’s like a hundred pens here.” My niece replies, “Um, well…” I reached the Um Well stage of pen ownership.
If you like fine tipped pens, you must try" tous les Jour" pens. They have the finest writting, wooden shaft, cute French days of the week print, and lots of colors to choose from. You can get them at small stationary shops like may day press or Tokyo pen shop
Fellow pen obsessed people, I need your help. I need to find gel ink pens in chalk like colors that actually work. Every type I've tried gets dried up and won't flow. I need opaque ink for my artwork. Please recommend your favorites.
i've been picking up used pens and pencils off the floor since i was 3ish. i have cases full of pens and pencils, tried and tested, full working order and parts. i collect the finished tiny sharpened pencils which can't be used comfortably anymore. i have a box full of them.
I hope you hang on to pens that only sort of work. Reveals a complex of childhood shortage, hoarding and failure to rotate stock. That's going to earn somebody a PhD.
But there's so many cool pens and pencils out there! I used to make my own goose feather quills for calligraphy when i was younger. Such a fun process!
Definitely! Got a cheapo set when i was kid for Christmas one year. Got addicted. Learned to make my own quills through trial and error, and cutting fingers is a good teacher. Brutal, but effective.
Psoriatic arthritis has killed that now unfortunately. Have trouble typing some days.
I feel you. But I can’t understand what you mean by “pens”. Felt tip? Ballpoint? Gel ink? Uniball? Fountain? Retractable? And that’s without getting into ink color…
I thought I was the only one! I have found my people! I obsess over Fine Point Pilot Pens, Soft lead pencils, non-bleeding sharpie pens, stickie notes, notebooks, and sketchbooks. I could open a small office supply store if I wanted too.
Not all of them are sharpened. I tend to reach for a mechanical first for writing...and the ones point up toward the front are my drawing pencils and those don't go point down, ever.
Has been my obsession since I was a toddler and was given a pen to draw with.
Now, I try my best to have a small bit of refillable pens and I pour love into them by swapping them out regularly. Better for the environment, my storage space, and my heart won't break because no tossing empty favorites
My mission when attending any conference is to acquire as many different pens as possible. If one comes attached to a cute little wire-bound notebook, that's made the whole trip worthwhile.
At work I had to start using adhesive tape to put my initials on my pens. Pen lifters always ask to borrow my pen but conveniently will pocket it. Some even lay claim to stolen pens when asked to return! Marking mine always outs the thieves.

Come to me my precious!
I mean….
I get all the love, but I want your best choices, because, let me tell you, my latest is the Pentel Energel .5 needle tip and mmm so nice.
what is yours? I need to know!
lately, I've been using a custom made pen filled with Parker-like rollerball carts. (easyFlow9000 iirc)
Sounds quite cool tbh

Don’t ever sign an important document with one, as they disappear over time.
I just found a fancy permanent pencil made of wood I bought ten years ago.
But only felt tips for me.
I am a paper snob and I dont care who knows it
I've got this obsession to.
Learned that from a college roommate who took notes in lectures with multiple colors. Geez - his notes looked like they were done in a word processor.
Priority labels - red, orange, pink
Diagrams - more colors
OMG make it stop
Love me a good pen too.
LOVE a pen or three hundred! 😀
Some billionaire should fund a chair or few. I mean, it would be the most socially responsible thing they'll have done.
What a moronic concept 🙄
btw, what fountain pend do you recommend?
Long ago, a girlfriend mocked me, "Like how you have to order a shirt in every color?" It was an instance of neurospicy on neurospicy violence.
Pragmatically, obsession and hoarding are negative. But for those of us wired that way, it's how we navigate the world.
Me:
HB means Hardtmuth of Budejovice.
F stands for his son, Franz.
The Koh-i-noor is the diamond in the English crown, not the Scottish one. There isn't a British crown.
Psoriatic arthritis has killed that now unfortunately. Have trouble typing some days.
I have an electric sharpener and a pot of pencils sharpened within an inch of their lives!

Yes, I have another one
Now, I try my best to have a small bit of refillable pens and I pour love into them by swapping them out regularly. Better for the environment, my storage space, and my heart won't break because no tossing empty favorites
But I’ve lost stuff I wanted to keep. Many people don’t realise that the ink disappears in heat and over time. Do not use for important documents!!
Mine are the Zebra Sarasa Click (I have them in almost every color)
2nd place: Pilot G-2 0.38
Or keep it simple, Bic Roundstic, medium point
