Youngkin and repubs actually want fed workers to leave VA. The fed workers in NOVA are the only folks keeping VA blue. Unfortunately the rest of the state are pretty much repubs.
Richmond and VA Beach are doing their part too. Don’t discount them! And if fed workers end up leaving NOVA for other parts of VA…their ‘plan’ backfires
Wait 'til their constituents learn that 'inefficient' programs really just means the ones that keep small farmers in business, regulate corporations in the public interest, protect consumers from corporate fraud and abuse, and that the 'freeloaders' they demonize includes most of them
apparently it was at some event about how the VAgov will help you get jobs. but chat is it smart to go "i like the gutting that unemployed you, but maybe you can get a worse paying job with me? maybe?"
When VA voters aborted his presidential ambitions Youngkin’s only interest became finding his next job. His political tenure is too short to land him the usual lobbyist/cable pundit slot, so his only hope to avoid becoming a Z list podcaster is to land a Trump admin position.
Wow! Thank you, governor, to make the life of Democrats a little easier. Well, Virginians, that’s how much he cares about you. Republicans are NO longer what you thought of them. #virginia #usa #governor #virginiansunemployed
No one is against looking to find “effficiencies” in the Federal gov’t. It’s been done before in other administrations. What people really are, or should be, pissed about is the complete lack of thought or process. This is not how it’s done anywhere.
Would love to vote against Youngkin, but Spanberger is an example of the worst parts of the democratic party. Good luck to Virginians having to make that choice
Funny part roughly a quarter of VAs population relies on federal government for their jobs. Let's say the federal govt just stopped in DC and Norfolk, two major $ providers would leave VA penniless. I.e. without jobs, everyone else will not get paid by the federal workers spending $s.
And that’s not even counting all the universities. UVA, Va Tech, Mason. They all get huge research grants about to be cut. Plus the medical research at hospitals not part of a university. And all the non-profits that exist on federal dollars.
The first people to lose their jobs in Virginia should be anyone with an (R) after their name. I look forward to not voting for this weasel in future elections (if there are any).
People should wise up to the fact that there are no moderate Republicans. It's a party made up of radicalized apparatchiks with no spine and no honest principles.
To be fair, I lived through exactly one day of the Regan administration, but the real change was hope. Before that, there was conversation, or at least there seemed to be, about what the goals of the party were.
Once things were consolidated, there was no longer a conversation, only a party line.
Perhaps the relevant question is: will there actually be an election? And even if there is an election, will there actually be posted results that are not manipulated?
Youngkin not watching that people hate what DOGE is doing across our state thinks this is going to make him win in 2026 against Warner or Kaine down the pike is hilarious. Also I assume he's going to try to run for President again.
Contractors are losing jobs left and right since the feds have stopped paying on many of them (claiming they’re DEI somehow) or by capping indirect expenses. Universities and medical centers are already freezing applications and planning staffing cuts. Plus they’ll buy less equipment and services.
Also show your work. “Efficiency” is a meaningless phrase. Who would ever be against “efficiency”? But like Paul Krugman said this morning if a public company cooked up numbers the way this crew has (8 billion? No, we meant million) you’d think they were lying to inflate results. Which they are.
You really think elections going forward will actually represent the will of the people? They are doing whatever they want, with no regard for laws or the constitution. Do people believe that they would let a silly thing like votes take away their power?
Oh man his website. This is great stuff. I like how it keeps repeating his bona fides as “a freelance investigative reporter (with) experience working with local law enforcement to solve crimes”.
I assume that means he was on Reddit and would constantly call 311 with crackpot theories.
Sears is a) African American and b) female, which means the normal protection the GOP-Media Complex gives Republicans isn't as strong in her case. She won't have the Nearly Infinite Immunity from Scandal pass normally issued to Republican candidates.
But why wait? Elon has no fucking right to be doing what he’s doing now. Trump is king, right? So that means governors don’t matter, doesn’t it? So by Glen’s logic, Elon should come fire his lazy ass right now too.
Took me an embarrassingly long time - years into adulthood - to realize that Farquad was a play on fuck wad.
That said #ImJustSayin this Youngkin quote is definitely giving “some of you may die but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make” energy (per your gif).
as a former VA resident, I wish this would make people reconsider the "no consecutive terms" rule... this reads like a guy who is extremely aware he has no obligation to give a single sliver of a fuck about his constituents
Are you suggesting that he should be allowed to run for re-election, just so he has the fear of losing the election? You do realize that could backfire horribly for Virginians, right?
...do you think that I'm advocating ONLY Glenn Youngkin be allowed to run for reelection? This rule is also maladaptive when popular and effective Democratic governors aren't allowed to serve consecutive terms.
No, of course not, but how often do we think the callous Republican is going to lose, and then he squeaks out a win? Way more often than any of us wish, sadly.
If Mark Warner remains the centrist he is and is not replaced in the primary, Youngkin will win that seat fairly easily. Exact same dynamic as him winning the Governorship he had zero business winning.
There was effectively no primary. McAuliffe lost because he ran a centrist campaign, giving voters no reason to turn out other than ‘not MAGA’. The only policy he ran ads on was giving MORE money to police, which was very unpopular with needed Dem voters but loved by GOP and consultants
Telling parents that teachers know better for their kids than the parents after Loudoun County had become a crucible for parent, outrage over sexual assault and progressive education policy.
That’s what did it…
I know for a fact, no number one because I know dozens of local elected that were
Pissed at McAuliffe for ignoring them during the campaign when they were in their districts (all politics is local) and he used his state campaign and bypassed the localized party machines.
He did this in Northern Virginia, especially the purple suburbs.
Warner's been the Senatorial incumbent since he won in 2008 and Republicans locally are going to be facing some pretty tough headwinds by midterms. I don't think Warner is left enough either and he frustrates me, but absent fuckery, he isn't losing.
Warner barely won in 2014 and 2020. Centrists barely win in best of times. We could hope he wins based on people loathing Republicans or run a progressive (at least someone with a platform) and win easily.
Republicans 8n the space of a month has made your country operationally unready.
What you guys did at the beginning of the Persian Gulf war, where you moved a significant force into the ME in forty eight hours you could not do today.
You're on your way not being able to respond to an emergency.
Youngkin is term limited to one term. He immediately went much harder right as gov than people expected (and he campaigned on) which points to him having an eye on Pres from the start.
It's not just Federal Working losing jobs in VA, it's contractors, small businesses collapsing, a housing market collapse and on and on. I thought he was smart AND understood economics.

I have 10 quatloos on resuming the "palling around with terrorists" smear.
It's possible the electorate can remain irrational longer than the country can remain solvent, and that's kinda scary.
Hell, I’m left of the Democratic platform now, and I’ve only moved a little to the Left while the parties have shifted further Right.
Once things were consolidated, there was no longer a conversation, only a party line.
"do you agree with Gov Youngkin's take about trump/Musk's downsizing, chaos, and cuts? yes or no?"
You’re also deflecting as fed contractors are never factored into governmental size.
It will work great in elections next year.
And I don't think Rutledge...oh man. I just looked at Rutledge's campaign website.
Oh. Dear.
This is laughably bad. This is one of the worst campaign websites *ever*.
I assume that means he was on Reddit and would constantly call 311 with crackpot theories.
Block him!@@

It’s cruel. It’s intentional. And it’s being perpetrated by evil men.
Musk could spend his time and money on philanthropy and making lives better. Instead he’s torturing working people.
Which bodes very well for the Democrats and Abigail Spanberger 😃👏🏼💙
1. He was so arrogant that he didn’t bother engaging county Democratic organizations. He didn’t invite local elected to his rallies.
He basically shot the anti-get out the vote effort directly into his own foot
2. He handed the gift of 🧵

If you look at the precinct level data,
The cuts are purely political. If Youngkin can show that "efficiency" or "fraud" is behind even 10% of DOGE's cuts, I'd be amazed.

He’s got to say the right things from now until 2028 to have a chance. In his mind, anyway.
It's not like there will be an actual fair election that year.
We now have two choices. Live free or kneel to your MAGA king like a slave.
