I agree - though I think it may have had to cut too much if a movie. Two parter though? But binge format for watching works out much better than the once a week 35 minutes.
I think there's a way. Start by cutting the flashback episodes 3 and 7. They show a lot of the same material. The major points of those two could be peppered throughout and as a montage as Sol tells Mae what really happened. With some editing I think it could be a 2-2.5 hour movie.
Phenomenal saber duels. Couple actors that really rose above. Other than that, pretty meh. I enjoyed it well enough, but don't have any strong emotions about it.
Story wise I really did like The Acolyte. I think the overall pacing and the way it was presented was just alright, nothing great. But like as a show I had fun with it, which was all I ultimately was looking for out of it.
The pacing at the onset (after the opening fight) felt off, like there was a rush to get in all the table setting and it didn't all land.
But by the time they started converging towards the forest to unravel and/or further the conspiracy, I was def enjoying the ride and invested in the outcome.
Civilly, I’d say - it definitely had some opportunities for improvement… it was, um, thought provoking… and… we learned some new things about force cults… yeah… so it was… um… interesting
Unpopular opinion, but it wasn't just not good, it was genuinely bad. The premise was intriguing and it had a few moments, but overall the writing was no bueno. I consider it the worst of Disney Star Wars. I wanted to love it but felt it was poorly executed.
I liked it. I'm not saying it doesn't have its hefty share of weaknesses, but the heart wants what it wants. And that's quite possibly Manny Jacinto with double light sabers telling me how the dark side is all about desire... 😂. Lee Jung-Jae, Dafne Keen, and Jodi TS were great too
I so wanted to like it. The bad guy was good. There were some good action sequences. But the Rashomon stuff was pointless and characters just made weird, nonsensical choices. Plus can we stop deconstructing Jedi and just make them basically good? Completely killed it for me.
Also lightsabees look wrong since they started using big lightbulbs instead of doing it in post. They lack the otherworldly quality they dad and look like big lightbulbs Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
It was okay. It needed to be tightened up for sure, and I wish they’d actually leaned in a lot heavier on some of the more Rashomon-like elements. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
Really liked the time period and want to see more of this. The fighting was excellent but Amandla Stenberg as Osha did not sell me on her turn to the dark side and I did not like some of the directing choices. But I would have watched a season 2...
Needed a little tighter writing and more emotional connection with the kids, and was a little too mystery-reliant without giving proper payoff. But nothing a second season wouldn't have fixed. Lots of shows have wobbly starts.
Manny Jacinto was amazing. The production value of the show did occasionally feel fan-made, like a YouTube project or something. And the acting half the time felt weaker than it should, but I blame the director for keeping a weak take for the Final Cut. I did like it more than I expected to, though.
I liked the concept. I did have hopes. The writing was poor. Maybe it just felt too young adult for me? The set designs and costumes all looked like they were purchased at the Galaxies Edge part of the theme park. They did not look as good as previous shows.
The writing was a little uneven, but I loved the concept showing that the Jedi, like any bureaucracy, makes decisions for its own survival rather than the greater good. And the fight scenes were great.
It had potential. I would've preferred something earlier in time. Also, more from the Sith perspective about the galaxy and their tenets. But it ended up being another Star Wars show with the Jedi more at the center than it should have been.
Overall I liked it. I thought either some of the writing or acting could be more compelling, not a good critic but something in that mix. I would have prefered a show not attached to the skywalker myth at all.
But for real, it had some interesting ideas, and one of the best characters, Qimir, that has been introduced in forever in live action. I’m very disappointed we weren’t getting a continuation of the Qimir/Plageuis story in a season 2!
Forgive me! I’m so tired that I misread that as “Argylle.” I was like, “Heyyy! Somebody’s going to bat for Argylle! I don’t see that often—oh, wait. Man, I’m silly.” [rubs eyes]
I’ve yet to watch Acolyte, but I’ll get around to it!
I really enjoyed it as well, and would have been delighted if they had continued the story. But, I can understand why it might not be the story for everyone. And that's okay.
I mean, it wasn’t good but it definitely wasn’t Disney murdering my childhood like the chuds would have you believe. It’s just a mediocre underachieving television show. 🤷🏻♂️
Def keep on past the first 3. 5, 6 and 8 are my favorites. It all comes together by the end of it. :) Also, binging seemed a much better format than the weekly release.
The production and execution of a Lucas-style Star Wars-as-a-show was so much higher than anything else we've seen from Disney. I liked it enough to give Ahsoka a shot and am finding that far better than I expected.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the issue honestly though is that a lot of terminally-online "fans" only think in 2 extremes now. The show had some issues with writing and pacing (imo), and was a good show, but maybe not great. But for many, something is only amazing or complete shit, no in between
As far as the actual narrative….it was a big mixed bag. The characters? Most exciting SW I’ve seen in a long, long time. So much KOTOR dna in this show. Certainly needed more time to grow. What a shame.
The Acolyte absolutely was not good tbh but I love the fact reading the replies I haven’t seen hardcore racism or the word “woke” once, Twitter this is not.
I always circled back to: it's the High Republic, it still feels like the same universe, the fight scenes are phenomenal, and: even the High Republic had their faults, & were often blind to what they were told, & unquestioning the unknown. That's the most Jedi relevant thing. It was good & fine! 🖤
It had a lot of potential and did not deserve all the hate that it got.
I'd still very much like to see the story continued in a live-action format, but felt the episodes were way too short. Best if binge-watched to avoid issues with pacing imo.
I haven't watched it, but I've heard good things. Now that I think about it, I haven't watched any of the Disney+ Star Wars shows... I should fix that.
Agreed. Its actually one of my favorite star wars things from the disney era. Which I know isn't saying much. Story was passable and the fights were incredible.
I think it was really just fine, story wise it was weak in some places. There’s a couple of episodes that drag and are completely, mind numbingly, boring.
But I think it could have absolutely improved if given a second season, that’s the real shame.
It was very ok. I dont understand how the acolyte had such a massive budget (neutral). Manny Jacinto and Lee Jung-jae delivered incredible performances. Some of the action was really good but the writing was great and very predictable. The story had more to say. I would have watched more Acolyte
Great acting! Fantastic fight scenes! So many cool ideas and themes in it! The writing, tho... so inconsistent. Definitely worth watching while doing something else
I really enjoyed parts of it! I know a lot of people are pissed that the Jedi were portrayed in a less-than-flattering light, but I thought it was interesting.
Honestly, I liked it too. Watched it with some friends and later my dad. None of them disliked it. It's a shame we won't see more Plagueis now it seems.
Also them trying to hide that the mysterious masked guy was the one shady character who kept saying weirdly morally Grey stuff was dumb. The last 3-4 episodes should have been the only episodes IMO
Wait. It's Paul Tassi. The big "gaming journalist" who threw a hissy fit over people not liking The Acolyte. The writing was lousy. It made no sense and broke canon. It was a very bad show that no one watched so they cancelled it. Judging people by TV shows is superficial and not professional

There was one episode that was really weak though, can't remember exactly which number. I'll let you know when I do a rewatch.
But by the time they started converging towards the forest to unravel and/or further the conspiracy, I was def enjoying the ride and invested in the outcome.
For others, nonwhite actors.
Also, Qimir was one of the best villains and characters in Star Wars in such a long time!

Heh. Yeah the first couple eps were rocky for me but l enjoyed it in the end. Dafne Keen rules.
Needed a little tighter writing and more emotional connection with the kids, and was a little too mystery-reliant without giving proper payoff. But nothing a second season wouldn't have fixed. Lots of shows have wobbly starts.
You could cut and compress Episodes 4 & 5 along with 3 & 7, and it wouldn't make a bit of difference.
it obviously wasn't up to par with series like Ahsoka, Andor, Mandalorian, etc but it was perfectly watchable
That being the case, I'll have to take your word that it was 'good'.
This part was exceptional,
Highlights include "What the hell kind of crazy do you have to be to have trained yourself to HEADBUTT a lightsaber?"
And "What's up I'm a Jedi master we Wuxia now."
I’ve yet to watch Acolyte, but I’ll get around to it!
I'll get to it one of these days.
Not everything can be great and that’s ok
I'd still very much like to see the story continued in a live-action format, but felt the episodes were way too short. Best if binge-watched to avoid issues with pacing imo.
But I think it could have absolutely improved if given a second season, that’s the real shame.
3 and 7 are flashbacks
1 and 2 are fine but not standout
5 is the one people love.
6 has a fun dynamic.
8 is a'ight
I liked it too, pretty fun show
