CHALLENGE: Here’s one for those of you following me from right here in Vancouver (I have no idea how many of u there are, but I’m curious).
Share something you love about our city, without sneaking in (in the usual way we do) a backhanded criticism of any kind.
See if you can do it. #VancouverLove

Not living in Van now, but did for years, and visit often.
I usually give myself some kind of foot/leg problem because I walk so much when visiting family.
But it started with the Seawall. 👣
Public libraries that are welcoming.
Parks with playgrounds in so many areas.
Also - Commercial Drive with 4 independent bookshops within metres of each other
Trying again:
In the summertime we can take a dingy ride to daycare drop off
- The Grouse Grind (and great hiking so close)
- Skiing 30 minutes' drive from the city.
- Coffee on Commercial Drive
- Great food options for people like me with both gluten and dairy allergies (this is not easy everywhere/elsewhere)
- The abundance of trees
- Beaches
The secret is that it is carpeted. The noise levels are so quiet even when crowded.
And an incredible collection of art.
Unwelcoming...
- the skytrain, especially to YVR
- transit that works
- the treed boulevards
- the glimpses of mountains and ocean from almost anywhere
- Pacific Spirit Park
- the variety of housing
(Well, except for WMMT in Kentucky, another gem.)
(And, CKCU in Ottawa.)
I'll pick something from your era at City Hall. I use it regularly for running and bike commuting. It's rare to find a route that's direct and largely car-free.
Also hanging out at Granville Island and walking on the North & South Shores of Falsecreek.
(For those who would scoff at the idea of loving the food at a food court, trust me on this one.)

I love Commercial drive. Love walking it and shopping there, especially for food.
Vancouver has the best food scene, there's always something new to eat.
Chilling at Dude Chilling Park.
Citywide zoning for lane houses and plexes.
Willing to depave St George Street for Rainway.
I can forget where I parked 4 days ago.
Consistent council support for green building policies over 2 decades.
The view from my Balcony.
Mountains meeting the sea.

The feeling of relief when you return from suburban Tampa.
20% density bonus for #passivhaus.
Great climate for air source heat pumps.
Fine grained commercial streets.

Cherry blossoms in April, and streets with big trees and leafy kissing canopies.
Transit system that is fully accessible (only one in N. America I believe)
Bouldering on the Broughton st. retaining wall.
Happy to be corrected if so...
(Not a resident but have spent much time there)
Biking Burnaby lake loop
Wim Hof session at Barnet Beach in December
Watching the sun set from Grouse Mountain, while also looking down onto the Downtown peninsula... this is one of this planet's most awesome vistas, just a ferry and a bus and a gondola ride from the City Center
#VancouverLove
Downtown library, seawall, Stanley Park, beach Ave bike route, Chinatown, canoe False Creek, burgers and beers at Jericho Sailing, year round soccer practice, Spanish Banks dog beach…
As a tourist I loved the city overall. If flights weren't so long and the city not so expensive I'd be there once a year.
EXCEPT FOR: Skytrain from downtown to the airport. Damn, why doesn't everywhere have that?
