What's more, they only have to read the official documents to find out the answer to the question. But reading is hard when your usual response to any online thread is 🤔
Probably not a good idea to let the guy who didn’t pay attention to the top sheet of a social media companies value before overpaying for it, make efficiency decisions for the gov’t. And he’s still a better financial decision maker than dear leader. 😬
You can all but guarantee that our formerly Dutch South African, unelected, pseudo president will do his best to cut aid to African countries first (just the ones with non-European Africans)
The Department of Gov’t Efficiency does not exist!! Do these guys seriously have social media accounts like it actually does? It has to be established by Congress, which has not happened. Do not obey in advance!
But are they actually learning anything? I see the bluster from them but am not confident they are absorbing (or even aware of) the responses/reality of the situation.
What makes you think they are learning anything? The whole thing is a scam. Facts, truth, or an actual desire to use tax dollars wisely have nothing to do with it. Also, what makes you think anyone at doge is listening to feedback?
Listen DOGE dude's we are NOT going back to isolationism.
We are the leader of the free world, we help others.
That is who we are and you are not going to change that.
First, we need to stop calling ourselves the “leader of the free world”, the US isn’t the leader in any category, not education, health of its citizens, we’re not even the biggest military anymore, we’re 4th. The US needs to sit down, humble itself and listen. We are NOT the world’s police!
Most population, wealthiest.
The US Dollar is the worlds currency, we have the biggest economy in the world, we create more jobs than any other free country, I will ceed we are loosing our freedoms though, going backwards. But I do still believe we are number one.
I think a lot of people are completely unaware of this possible scenario - and this one actually terrifies me more than most of the other garbage coming out of this clown car.
The man who spent 250 million to convince Trump's base, among other things, that he wouldn't allow an abortion ban? The one who bought a social network to elect a president? That Elon?
he owns multiple companies literally receiving billions in subsidies but is going to be harassing bureaucrats over small nickle and dime expenses. laughable grift violating principles of sound governance. supposed to have an emoluments clause and nepotism supposed to not be allowed. #GOP
Okay an extension of that idea- why are journalists not hounding him - "businessmen are more efficient than bureaucrats, right? and you are volunteering to look for inefficiency? and you receive billions in subsidies? why not refuse subsidies? be more efficient? be patriotic and responsible?"
What could be a sincere question—"Where exactly is that money going and how is it being spent?"—is instead rhetorical and snide. If it were sincere, he'd look for the answer in the public record.
We give other country's money so they will like us and do things to help us.
You would think that a couple of rich guys who just bought a presidency and a new "government" department would understand the concept of buying influence.
I think that what becomes obvious is that being a billionaire doesn’t necessarily mean you’re smart, certainly not smart about everything like these two think they are. Looking forward to DOGE failing big time, not because there isn’t fat to be cut but because these two are running it.
Wait until figure out if we aren't investing & helping countries overseas which country will be. Oh Wait, China pretty much has the continent of Africa tied up already.
Also if any of the aid includes equipment or armaments then some government contractor made a lot if money in the process. And stand to lose a lot in the process. Funny how everything is related.
This whole administration is going to be a farce. Cut 2 trillion? Nope, the House won’t approve the drastic cuts needed. Deport millions? Nope, farmers and contractors will put on too much pressure. Arrest and jail journalists? I hope that Americans won’t allow that. Resistance and protest are key.
Still hoping for Secretary Pete having some quiet call with Musk where he'd explain how government works, what different agencies do, and how they could really improve efficiency in a way everyone would benefit from.
Yet Democrats and the left are failing on messaging. They're arguing on Musk's terms. You don't start with arguments about which programs are necessary. You begin with how tax cuts by Republicans created the debt in the first place.
What seriously do you hear us saying that is somehow “failing” on messaging? TBH all I hear is 24/7 non-stop alarming headlines coming at me so fast I can’t having to process them all much less scream “we are so fucked”
And no one said Bluesky is some kind of safe space where we all have to be “nice“ we just didn’t have to be crazy Nazis and right wing. trolls. This country is in some serious trouble, but, start coming up with options
I'm pretty sure Democrats have been saying that since Trump signed the executive order, but enough people voted for experiential messaging and that's what we're going to get.
...who fall through society's cracks, who can't make it in the market. It provides a basis for a fair shot, such as education and welfare. Private sector doesn't get that efficiency in not the criterion, people are.
What amazes me about the clueless people from the private sector who think they can waltz into government positions and sweepingly fix everything by cutting everything is that they never look at the ramifications of these cuts. The public sector does what the private sector can't. It helps those....
The only proper response to anything Xittered by “The Department of Government Efficiency” should be YOU DON’T EVEN FUCKING EXIST UNTIL JANUARY 2025 STFU IGNORAMOUSES
A significant portion of U.S. foreign aid is directed toward U.S. companies, particularly through contracts for delivering goods and services in the recipient countries. A major channel for this is the “tied aid” model, requiring purchases be sourced from the U.S. economy
As to what we’re doing, the 2 cases I know of trained Egyptians how to better grow their cereal grains, & set up a junior college program in agricultural engineering & trained Greeks to run it. We’re helping other countries to better feed themselves. Yeah, let’s cut those foreign aid funds.
It’s rarely noted, but much if not all US aid to other countries requires the goods to be U.S.-made. My father was part of a US Agency for International Development (US AID) project for Egypt and all tractors, etc were made in the U.S. Many foreign aid dollars stay in the U.S. & fuel our economy.
Remember that doge will be managed by 2 ignorant teenagers that think everything is as easy as building a company in the US.
They will be way over their heads.
The forces behind government spendings and the efforts done to reduce it has no match in the private sector.
They will be eaten alive.
I took a whole graduate course on OCHA. I suggest the geniuses at doge do the same. I actually used this slide during a presentation & the professor basically ripped me apart. Imagine being the head of a dept & using slide as a "gotcha" moment. 🤡🚗
As someone from the UK, also aware that FA fell under Dept of Development, as in it’s INVESTMENT and never given without strings - like ‘who’s getting the contract for your cellular service?’ Etc
Just look how much money China is spending in the the 3rd world right now. It’s their investment in the future. Where do you think all the rare earth minerals are located?
The US CANNOT isolate itself from the world and succeed.
The billionaire geniuses are actually pretty f*ckin stupid.
The thing I hate most about the elon types is the whole "just asking questions" thing. Dude you're a billionaire and a buddy to the man who's about to run the free world. You have no fucking clue what this is money is spent on? Or are you just gassing up moron conspiracy theorists?
Especially interesting that when polled, most people estimate the amount spent on foreign aid is much higher (Americans guessed over 9%). But other industrialized countries also have a major perception gap. Ironic that capital flows from poor to rich countries because of debt interest payments, etc.
They could cut over $3B if they stopped the arms sales to Israel that Netanyahu’s extremist government is using to bomb schools, hospitals & places of worship in Gaza.
The US gives aid for a variety of reasons-disaster relief, stopping the spread of disease, providing food, AND to encourage cooperation. Often times this aid ends up benefiting US! They are picking at crumbs when the bulk of the money goes to defense, interest, and health.
mainstream media needs to educate the general public on the budget to give us facts on what $$ goes where. Perfect example is pointing out that foreign aid is 1% of our budget if in fact that it’s really true. Give links to sources. These DOGE idiots will only lie and gaslight us
Much of the tech we use every day came from the space program or other Gov't investments in research .. The last thing we need is a handful of rich, clueless doofuses destroying the support of our scientific community (in service to themselves)
Well, and speaking as a theoretical astrophysicist, who worked as NASA and then was supported by NASA grants, knowledge and wonder and the joy of discovery are worth investing in as well.
I think it’s made me a better teacher, as well. And we need those in STEM.
The Trump tax breaks for the rich added more than a trillion $ to the deficit. Extending them will blow up the deficit by trillions more. Let them expire and we won't need a fake government "efficiency" department.
It’s fun to see Elon and Vivek minimize the value of millions of federal workers while they place the savings at hundreds of millions of dollars.
Were none of these people doing anything of value? Is the private sector able to absorb caring for veterans AND employing VA staff? The scale is gigantic.

"Not cutting my state."
Easy to tell something that is factual true while simultanously giving us the big lie
Norway has 5,5 million inhabitants.
How many lives in the US?
PS. Norwegian politicicians master the game of deception without lying too.
Instead of competent government swing voters voted for cheaper Pop Tarts.

F*ck musk. Guy got more in government handouts since 2005 then we spend in a year.
Send him back to South Africa please
wait for those grain+bean farmers watch these guys, WHOM THEY VOTED INTO POWER, bankrupt them...
just like TFF bankrupted the soybean farmers last go round.
They literally can’t understand the importance of humanitarian aid.
But on the first hand, yeah, fu¢k Doge.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Department_for_International_Development Has a budget of £13.4bn or $17bn at Market exchange rates and $19bn PPP.

How many are/will be fellow doge grifters with the billionaires ?
The rich rich crowd is far from the brightest bulb in the box.
Rich people have never been inherently smart. Fittingly, the people that think they are, are also not smart.

I wanted to say that the DOGE dummies can’t be that stupid, but…

Hope this helps.

"We can't afford NASA!"
NASA budget has been around .5% of the federal budget for the last 15 years.
A lot of the budget is like that until you get to defense and social safety nets.
