One *extremely* important point - that link in that intro which supposedly suggests Americans are 55% in favor of deportations and might be in favor of tariffs -
that was from January. Well before the American electorate got a look at the deportations and especially tariffs > in practice <
I wonder if the people who write these editorials include a "to be sure" in everything they do, such as telling the waiter "Ill have the chicken quesadilla but to be sure the Caesar salad is good", or "Two tickets for Sinners, but to be sure Warfare is a fine film"
So glad I unsubscribed from them. They are the most insidious when it comes to legitimizing false narratives. It is truly sad to see how far they have fallen.
This is insane. It ranges from the obvious to the bootlicking, ass-kissing prose of someone trying to avoid Trumpanzee's ire.
I hear that under Mussolini the trains run on time.
My grandfather told me it wasn't true, but nobody was complaining, unless they wanted a dose of laxatives.
The building of this coalition should start with an acknowledgment that Mr. Hitler is the legitimate Chancellor and many of his actions are legal. Some may even prove effective. He won the Chancellory fairly last year, by our legitimate legal process....
The NYT isn’t a serious publication anymore and hasn’t been for some time. They’re riding the coattails of the name they built in past decades. They’ve been reduced to tabloid status.
I was like..REALLY? WE aren't MAGA...we aren't a cult. We never contested the election. We questioned the cult following blindly without facts and we question the Republican Senators and people like Little Marco that were the adult in the room and now there isn't one. Trump is Trump.
Dear NYT, You are full of shit. Nothing the hog is doing is legal, he HIMSELF IS NOT LEGAL. WE ARE NOT maga morons. Your effort to prevent mr. hog from targeting you is a failure so I hope you lose all of your subscribers
All based on the theory and thought, that he won the election. And he did not. When we all realize that, then NONE OF THIS bullshit acquiescence will have been justified. HE...STOLE...THE ELECTION.
The NYT spent the whole of last year downplaying the stakes of Trump's presidency if he wins, while others warned of the disaster that it could be... Idk why would the NYT think their opinion page has any credibility.
Excellent procrastination skill.
Are you, perchance, a writer?
And if not, you should perhaps consider it.
We gold medal in the procrastination Olympics every year. It is our specialty.
Which immigration policies are legal and popular? It has a couple of excerpts similar to the ABC Terry Moran interview with completely delusional Trump.
Love the condescending ‘accept that he won the election’ as if the Left tried to overturn the results and shows up at the Capitol with mace and weapons. And his policies are not popular, no matter how many times they repeat it.
You could date this back to the 1930's, substitute Hitler's name and it would remain both accurate and horribly horribly wrong. NYTimes can't get out of its own way
And this is why I canceled my subscription. The major papers are falling down on the job. As is mainstream media. I quit watching network news, too. Walter Cronkite et al are spinning in their graves.
Is anyone reading this bullshit still? I ended my time’s subscription in February 2024, after the first op-ed legitimizing his bullshit. The media is complicit in the fascist takeover.
Elections DO have consequences. 77 million voters can't say now that they didn't know what the consequences would be, and 90 million "adults" who chose not to vote can't express surprise either.
I will say this, i am canadian but this is on all Americans. Be it the republicans or those who didn't vote but those who supported democrats didn't do enough to convince those who were sitting at home.
There is a large segment of your population that doesn't believe what democrats are peddling.
They've been simping for nazis since their fangirl slop on Hitler back in the 1920s. I've never liked them or trusted them after knowing their history. Their only god is money.
As the editorial concludes, “elections have consequences.” And as it demonstrates, among those is the capitulation of what were once some of the standard-bearers of objective reporting and public accountability. The NYT needs to reclaim its purpose.
It’s incredible how media outlets that report daily on Trump’s corruption are incapable of imagining that massive election fraud could have been committed in 2024 and that Donald Trump may in fact have stolen the election.
Or complicit. Do you follow @thiswillhold.bsky.social & @electiontruth.bsky.social ? They have the manipulated data and have been sending it to Dems for months.
This is the same party that allowed Nixon, Reagan, Bush II, & Trump 2x, to collude w/foreign govts or FL Gov Bush to steal the presidency.
@thiswillhold.bsky.social had over 1M on X, Musk shut the account down for talking about it.
No one even put together that he bought Twitter right after Putin invaded Ukraine.
He cut a deal to get Trump elected in exchange for Ukraine’s minerals, the whole pinned thread is mind blowing.
Fraud? Maybe in the sense that Trump lied and misled about most things per his usual MO, but I am unaware of any actual voting fraud that could have impacted the election results. Is there any evidence of that?
I’ve not seen anyone really talk about it outside us regular people in these apps, you’d think liberal media would be all over that if it was a thing, amazing though that our elections were perfectly fine and had zero fraud now that he won, Trumps not said a word about elections other than the last
“They refuse to acknowledge the stolen election—Why? Because Trump’s chaos pays the bills—he’s good for reelection, ratings and ad revenue. Their supposed outrage is to make us feel they’re on our side—when in fact, they’re on the side of power and money.” - @thiswillhold.bsky.social
I live in GA, I applied for an absentee ballot in Sept, it was approved and reportedly mailed to me in early Oct. I didn't receive it by late in Oct but I was able to go to early voting on one of the last days it was available to vote. What if I hadn't had the chance to go in person?
The ballott never arrived that I was told had been mailed. I can't be the only person this happened to can I? I beleive DeJoy had something to do with it but of course I have no proof. Am I just paranoid?
For me, the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back, was their lies, cover-ups, and collusion with the enactors and supporters of the genocide taking place in Palestine.
My guess is that David Brooks seduced him by his famous way of seeing both sides. A big dollop of fascism served on a bed angry hate. And a lot of nonsense about how some book David's plugging proves that direct confrontation upsets everyone, which according to him means the absence ofio
"He's a dictator but he's done a few things people said they wanted, even though he's doing them in catastrophically destructive ways those voters certainly didn't think he would, but that's okay"
The "elections have consequences" trope particularly galls me. As if the other side didn't spend 4 years denying the Biden election results. So apparently that stricture only applies to one side
I'm unsure who wrote that opinion since I no longer subscribe to the NY Times. Flooding the opinion pages with this type of article is not surprising. How many of these are authored by his staff under a disguise? Or a plethora of businessmen desperate for favors or protection.
First WAPO and now NYT. I am in the last pages of the Katharine Graham “A Personal History” and am asking myself “what happened to these courageous publishers from the past?” Gone.
Even that mealy-mouthed appraisal of the Trump regime is an indictment. The very phrase "MANY of his actions are legal" instantly begs the question: "but, what about the ones that aren't?"
I’m sorry but I’m having a hard time seeing where they are wrong. In the name of fairness, and perhaps playing devil’s advocate a little bit, just because you don’t like something does not mean it’s invalid. We simply did not fight hard enough to elect a better option, and Kamala kinda stunk.
What planet are you currently living on or have you just come out of a 3 month coma? Look around you. If you'd rather have trumps authoritarian takeover than a black/asian woman well there is a word for that.
There is so much wrong about this editorial but what really got me was the part about making federal programs less about race. What a distortion!! It is all about race now! Every program is now based on white supremacy and advantage! It is dishonest to frame it in any other way!
Put a pin on this utter nonsense from The NY Times. When there is the ultimate results from this criminal administration repeat it 24/7 back to them. This capitulation should be studied by journalism students as the garbage it is.
QUOTE: "President Trump shifted from generally attacking the “fake news media” to singling out The New York Times on Wednesday as a “true ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!"
The Bizarro World, an inverted, opposite version of Earth, where things are reversed.(?)
What I didn't like about the article was the Ed Bd was saying this is what you need to do to succeed. We. Not them. We can only save our democracy by building a coalition of un-like minds (pro-choice + anti-choice, etc.) and if we don't succeed, well that's on you. Very condescending.
I do think there's value in recognizing that a large percentage of the country actually agrees with him. I didn't read the article because I'm not paying for that drivel but recognize if you tell 30-40% of the country they're fascists, there's going to be push back.
That's why nobody reads The N,W Times they were bought &paid 4 before the election. They were saying lunatic things, long before Trump even became President. They were sharing and spreading lies.Just like the republican party nobody reads a new york times because they're not trustworthy they're boobs.
The whole publication is elite, neoliberal nonsense. These people's refusal to acknowledge reality is contributing to how dangerous things are going to get.
The NYT is clearly not playing to it's reader base, it is adjusting it's message to the President and Co. Where are the pushback information....modified...minimized.
It says "many of his immigration policies," not "his immigration policies." Which anyone in good faith can pretty easily deduct means "not all." He literally got voted in on being perceived stronger on immigration than Kamala (although the Dems overall capitulated Repubs on this). Read the article.
The editorial staff seems to insist on a “good people on both sides” approach while meekly concluding that something a wee bit terrible is nonetheless happening. The opinion might as well have acknowledged there are those who would welcome a Trump dictatorship for life, then opine it’s a bad idea.
You may not like it but they are right. The problem is that the two things he may have accomplished that are good are overwhelmed by the 1000 things he is doing that are harmful. To be clear, I think he is the worst human being on earth and I would shove a knife in him if I could get close enough.

Yeah, they're not *all* felonies. Great point.
Um, this implies that he’s also doing illegal actions.
NYT is in #CodeBlue

Who owns the mainstream media?
Unsub the propaganda machine. Delete their apps.
STARVE THE RICH.
it's always been shit
Seriously, are there any journalists left in the mainstream media?
It was they who ruled he has absolute immunity when executing duties of the presidency. Bet they didn't see this coming!
Now, they see he has plans of dictatorship over president of a democracy.
#NowWhat
#SCOTUS unleashed this!
Embarrassing for what used to be “the paper of record” for this country
On the other hand, my subscription to Democracy Docket is a great investment in accurate, legal analysis.
Highly recommend!

Yikes.
All the world is their stage and they are monstrously chewing the scenery while we watch with rheumy eyes.
