MPs have launched a review into pensioner poverty after the government admitted the cut to winter fuel payments could force 100,000 people into poverty
Surely this is exactly the sort of review which should have taken place before MP’s were asked to vote?

Brexit has shown that people will fall for attractive lies if their lives are getting worse, not better.
I prefer to stay quiet and watch, that way I learn more and our enemies get nothing from me unless I want them to know.
I mean... that's good right? You understand that's good??
Problem is that the bar is too low.
A pensioner getting £230 a week doesn't qualify for PC.
The Government ran on a manifesto of not increasing the big taxes. So which spending do you wana cut to give more pensioners a winter bonus payment?
Hell the NI employer raise and global events aren't looking great for growth even now.
More 'windfall' taxes on the big companies that have seen their profits grow exponentially in the cost of living crisis would hit the spot for starters.
You'd be mad to invest in a country where the howls of millionaire pensioners and land owners are met by a retreat and then broad tax raids on company profits.
Joke.
What you say is absolutely true, any action that spurs people on to claim what's rightfully theirs is positive.
The new government has done much that is good but this remains a bad misstep so early in a Parliament.
Surely it could have waited until after winter, giving more time to address the pensions credit issue and general levels of poverty amongst the recipients?
Looms
IMHO it should have started with the assumption that WFA must be means tested, and that there should not be a flat ceiling at which eligibility ceased, but, instead, a progressive decrease in entitlement based on income, savings etc.
Was that "needed"?

Had a few conversations where they clearly did not understand the potential consequences of their actions.
It means they pay me, though, so I can't complain too much.
And some reporting too. My mother in law is complaining, but will still manage two holidays a year and m&s cafe twice week.
Yes.
At the moment, I'm of the same thinking but, it's on a knife edge (and the alternatives are appalling).
Private health insurance.
Conservatives.... 14 Yr disaster zone.
If 100,000 is the true figure, then let’s help them, that’s the right thing, but giving it to people who don’t live in the country or who are wealthy enough is wrong.
Well said Peter
Common sense is like deodorant.
Those who should use it most rarely do☹️

Government
IT IS helping to "balance the books" for Starmer's Genocide Funding in Palestine.
IT IS IMMORAL abuse of UK Pensioners to support a Vile Apartheid Terrorist Regime Committing Genocide in Palestine.
This country needs a new left leaning party with real progressive policies for everyone.
Not a government that makes policies up on the back of a cigarette packet.
I'm so surprised the new government didn't do this. The optics are just sooooo bad.
That’s the easiest way to means test it.
Quicker Scotland is independent the better.
Up, sending hugs 🤗
Sadly, it looks as if disaffected voters could turn to the loudest populist bandwagon jumper - fascist Farage.
