There's speculation that Donald Trump will demand the UK cuts taxes and red tape on tech giants including X, Amazon and Facebook in return for escaping trade tariffs

Facebook is the biggest social media platform in the world and Amazon is one of the biggest companies in the UK. A boycott would never, ever get off the ground.
People are leaving X (Twitter) in their droves so that’s a win.
There are plenty of better alternatives to Amazon, so its easily done if people just get off their proverbial asses. And Facebook can certainly be dented.
He's annoyed with Canada cos 'they're ripping the US off',if that's the case then he won't mind us doubling any tariff he applies to us cos we pay them more than they pay us (ripping us off)+confiscate his UK golf courses+offer any p1ssed off blue states 50% fed tax discount if they secede & join UK
I deleted Facebook many years ago, have not been on Amazon for years either & actually have all their websites (+ several others inc. Google's) uBlocked.
The amazing realisation was that I have never missed any of them!!
The worst thing is that a boycott would have minimal impact either. Since many places are gutted to pieces. These guys will snatch up closed down shops, that's how an oligopoly works. Oversaturate the market to dominate, it's always been the play.
I guess the best way is learning how to be efficient at maintaining stuff we've already got and starve them of profit as much as possible. It'll be harder for some than others. Time to start playing this one strategically.
Pt 3, Last Labour government under #TonyBlair was not he a solicitor & f***ed off leaving the country in sh**? Now we have I have no balls @Keir_Starmer he is a solicitor. Any the way he is carrying on, we can expect the same???.
Then if that is the case, @Keir_Starmer if he has any balls, should tell #DonaldTrump to FO. And concentrate on his own F*** up country.
But no doubt Starmer will bend over & take it up the ass has he always does.
Why would the uk be worried about tariffs when they can just keep trading with the eu? Oh yeah I forgot the dumb fucks voted for Brexit but at least they stopped the boats and got rid of all the bloody foreigners though right? Um ok #brexit
There’s speculation that Donald Trump wants to make his friends Elon, Jeff and Mark much richer because they are currently struggling to make ends meet.
Rarely use FB, never subscribed to prime, never paid postage, looking elsewhere for online purchases now. Have always bought outright, never subscribed or rented books/music.
I used to get toiletries and bits n pieces though Amazon, I now go direct to Boots, only pay postage if I spend less than £25, don't get next day delivery but tbh I don't really need next day delivery.
Tell him to f**k off, Keir! Our friends are patently in Europe and obv not with these money-grubbing five-minutes blackmailing gangsters. Kick these parvenus to the kerb!
We will lose more if we acquiesce; that includes democracy. The oligarchs have already started to cannibalise the USA in full view; they don't bother to hide it and believe they have total immunity.
Canada agreed to do what they announced in December they were going to do.
Mexico agreed to do less than they were already doing.
And China increased US tariff by 5% more than the Trump tariffs on them.
Thus is a hollow threat because US has a small trade surplus with UK and US would lose financially from tariffs reciprocated. UK would be stupid to give in to bullying tactics. Trump knows this.
It's not much but I've started taking the time to try to not use Amazon whenever I can . I'm not on X, don't use Facebook, don't use Apple. It's working on Tesla so it can work in them.
I'm sure those in Reform will be quick to anger about the idea of USA interfering in British politics like they were when Obama said something about Brexit, and will stand firmly behind the Prime Minister
Just ban them instead, I’d make the UK a nicer place. AWS would need an exception, but they should pay their fair share of tax on profits made here and be highly regulated.
Is it even posible to reduce taxed on them much further?!
My (al be it amature) understanding is that these companies already enjoy ridiculous loopholes to avoid huge amounts of UK tax?
As I understand it, the difference in import and export totals between UK and US is not so big that it would give Dump much leverage so maybe it’s just the usual bullying that disappears when stood up to?
Imagine if the newspapers (or govt) framed this as “reducing the taxes paid by Amazon and meta will have to mean lower pensions and zero winter fuel allowance”
😂😂😂😂cut what tax…the greedy W⚓️s don’t hardly pay any at the mo. As to red tape do they mean our laws that aim to protect our citizens from online harm. Suspect Farage and his acolytes will support Trump. Traitors!!
Translation: “I demand you make it easier for Nigel Farage to get elected on a wave of misinformation so he can do my bidding more fully and effectively. He’s a far more obedient little lap dog”
AFAIK Congress holds the power to raise/lower tariffs; the president may only do so in a matter of national security. He cited border crossings from Mexico and Fentanyl trade from Canada. What will he claim in our case?
They should pay more tax, but this Tory government is going after the poor and vulnerable. Stuff America, work with Europe, Commonwealth, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America
I’ll quite cheerfully renounce my Amazon prime membership and stop buying from Amazon altogether. I’ll delete my twitter account. Delete Facebook. Delete insta. Anything else?
I've already done that! I use Amazon as a search engine now to find out a good price, then buy it elsewhere, preferably direct, dont care if i pay more. All subscriptions were closed on 21st Jan.
The irony is that the Brexit voters incensed at the apparent foreign EU intrusion into UK matters will lap up foreign Trump and Musks intrusion into UK matters.
Of course he will. And we will acquiesce, like the mewling, craven weaklings we now are. Because we’re an isolated little nonsense nation, friendless and alone.
Raise their taxes, but Reeves won't because, she's got no ideas unless it's prostrating herself to Trump. Starmer and Reeves are the ones who kept quiet when the school bully stole everyone's lunch money, hoping he wouldn't steal theirs.
And there we have it. Blame the gay/trans/brown/white/woke neighbour for all our problems and not the corporations who stiff us every day. Maybe one day we'll have a politician in this country with a spine that we can ALL get behind.
I used Amazon maybe twice when they first started, never knowingly since. I did find that I could access a namesake in US and see personal details including banking numbers. Still have screenshots. I'm really annoyed some other dealers use Amazon delivery-I'd stop the order if I know.
A number of fellow researchers, in an area of mutual interest, sell their works on Amazon, I won't buy their books unless they become available elsewhere. You can survive without Amazon
Given that they pay next to no tax now, can we make that like the Mexico deal, where what they agreed required them to send fewer border security guards that they currently have deployed? We might be able to actually get a bit more cash out of the bunch of parasites.

Also, can you imagine a mass exodus from Facebook, and people shopping elsewhere instead of Amazon? Might be unlikely, but it'd be beautiful!
The amazing realisation was that I have never missed any of them!!
Neither Facebook nor Amazon are essential to daily life, no matter how much some might think they are.
Some say he's unpredictable, but i don't think he is.
If this happens, then it'll be something else....then something else, etc and so on.
It'll be difficult to push back, not impossible.
He has very close comparison to Hitler???
But no doubt Starmer will bend over & take it up the ass has he always does.
But maybe I've enough stuff in any case.

Who's folding again?

(ANY effing WHERE)
Then there might be more public outrage.
They can see we are a weak country in turmoil
#DeleteAmazon
#DeleteFacebook
#DeleteMeta
There are good alternatives for all of them!

Our government needs to stop grovelling to fascists.
END
Tell him to do one and get tariffed costing us billions? This is where reality bites and Labour need to sort things out with EU
