confronting armed men with a crowd which they refuse to shoot is vastly more powerful than putting together enough armed men to shoot back

So, seriously, should I buy and train with a semiautomatic rifle?

Not to mention that the King family believes that MLK was assassinated by the US state security forces.
So the question is, has it ever worked?
It's how the Carnation and Romanian Revolutions happened.

There is no conceivable future in which resistance to American fascism looks like pitched battle by territorially defined entities. And even in the future in which Gavin Newsome is our Thomas Fairfax, we lose. Quickly.
I don't think we would see the pitched battles you mention, but an open insurgency is absolutely a terrible possibility.
The Continental Congress was first the Continental Army came after.
And, even then, there were obstacles like this man.
And that was in a regime more or less primed for violent repression.
Absolutely true that ours is far from the ideal, but our national ethos is still closer to it than China's was in the 1980s.
It takes a certain kind of nerve to stand up in front of armed men, particularly with a dipshit like Hegseth sending out directives, and be _sure_ that the guy with a gun in front of you will refuse to shoot your unarmed self.
But it takes even more nerve to show up for a protest or rally AFTER someone got shot at the last one.
Also if, like me, you're prone to moments of deep despair- you really probably should not ever own a firearm.
A full blown civil war? You bet your ass Russia and China will be looking to do whatever it takes to collapse the US, and other countries will want to go oppose that. Civil War 2 would be WW3.
Other countries being involved doesn't mean they're helping.
(I unfortunately think that almost no matter the crowd, the army would probably shoot if ordered by Trump, gauging by how the rest of the government responds to blatantly illegal stuff, but yes peaceful protest is way more effective than armed revolution).
