We’re doing introductions again? Okay! I’m Ursula Vernon aka T. Kingfisher, I write a lot of books, mostly fantasy and horror, I talk a lot about nature, birds, and bugs, I play video games and M:tG, I RT stuff.

I've read everything you've written with the exception of the Clockwork boys. I've liked the Algernon Blackwood stuff but you know who's creepy in the AB section? Ambrose Bierce. There is something real weird about his stuff
I discovered you by accident even though you were already on my shelf! What Moves at Night has been my read of the year!! (Yes I bought it because of the cover 🙈)
Thanks for writing lots of books, my people and I really appreciate them! Recently, A House With Good Bones was the horror comedy we needed after some bad stuff and daughter's first adult 'I love this and am terrified' horror was What Moves The Dead.
Hi nice to meet you! Just followed! I’m brand new on here. From Twitter where I have a huge account and going to find a more close it community of writers and creatives here. ✨🎉
I found your books based on a rec from... Chuck Wendig maybe? Or Ferrett Steinmetz? Anyhow, I read The Twisted Ones and got hooked! And I agree with everyone raving about Nettle & Bone, it is phenomenal.
I just finished reading A House With Good Bones and absolutely adored it. I felt so seen in the representation of the Gothic horror of Polite Southern Society that I grew up in. Can't wait to check out more of your books.
I picked up Nettle and Bones in a used book shop a while ago, purely because I recognised your pen name as That Cool Wombat Person, and it was the greatest decision I’ve made spontaneously in a while. I was worried because I struggle to read physical books, but it was so good it was EASY.
Oh goody! I found you again. I loved following the adventures of Ursula, Kevin and Shepard on Twitter before the platform was purchased and I logged off.
You don’t know me from a hole in the ground, but I feel like I’m running across an old high school friend.
Also I swear a lot, so if you grew up on the Dragonbreath books and seeing the author say “Fuck!” will scar you for life, probably don’t follow. Sorry.
Occasionally the feed will simply turn into me screaming the names of birds as I see them. This is normal.
Fellow writer here! Mostly poetry collections but soon two memoirs about significant family members who have passed. Writing and art is what get me through any given day.
If anyone is looking for recommendations, her books are amazing. One of the few authors whose books I will buy sight unseen, because I know it will be good.
Hi nice to meet you my name is Emad aka Wolf love to write fantasy also but have never published a book. Working now 10+ hours a day in real estate and 6 days a week! Been starting to feel distanced from it. Trying to find motivation now
Hello, just wanted to say I listened to the audiobook of A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking recently and got really very emotional at Molly's redemptive moment. Probably due to my own mh history but anyway it was very moving and lovely (and you know a bit horrifying) so thank you.
Digger was fundamental to my ideas of the deconstruction/reconstruction of fantasy tropes, and I've tried incorporating some of those ideas in my own storytelling, in particular the accidental power of friendship. "Name is Ed!" indeed.
Hello there, Ursula Vernon aka T.Kingfisher. I'm Ursula Price. It's lovely to see another with the same name. I'm not a writer. However, I do swear like a sailor. I'm 55, a mother of 2 women, and 6 kitties. Grateful for my partner Darren's patience.
I'm currently embarrassed to say I'm American.
I keep meaning to say that I absolutely TORE my way through the White Rat/Paladin books last winter and they were so fucking satisfying. The White Rat itself is just ❤️ and each of the characters was wonderful. Thank you for hours of happiness!
Love your work! Just finished The Hollow Places for the second time and it’s inspired me to read The Willows which I’m enjoying immensely! Question, what would you say is your scariest novel? 🤔
Hi. I'm Robert Howell. I also write horror and fantasy (mostly urban fantasy). I got into horror about 18 months ago after having to do weekly inspections of a vacant house that creeped me out. It led to my gothic horror Blood Mansion. Two more horror books on the way.
I am a long time fan and like all her books, but if you liked Defensive Baking two other excellent books aimed at MG-ish readers (I am in my 60s, no shade intended) are Summer in Orcus and Minor Mage.
MG-ish? I don’t know what that means. Thank you for the recommendations. What I liked most about Defensive Baking was the Discworld vibe. Reminds me most of the Tiffany Aching books which I am dying to read to my grandgirls.
As Mary Aileen said , Middle Grade. The Tiffany Aching books are a good comparison. Roughly, the complexity level moves from chapter books to middle grade to young adult and I would say is a mix of reading difficulty and length, age of the protagonist, and emotional complexity and intensity.

Thank you so much for being yourself.

Been reading through Rick Riordan’s books at bedtime with my son for the last year and it’s something I look forward to all day, every day.
