I've been preferentially choosing USPS Priority Mail as a shipping option when it's available for years to make sure that my shipping costs support the USPS
I will never forgive the USPS for their role in historical American censorship... and yet, I would still take a bullet for them today, all things considered.
Can confirm, the one is directly tied to the other. Letter carriers have not had a general wage increase in…2 or 3 years? They’ve also never been so hard up for staff….
Word is they’re “still negotiating”
Now we just need DeJoy criminally charged for sabotaging half a billion dollars of irreplaceable sorting equipment during the height of the pandemic and the harms that caused and the nifty new electric post vans to roll out and things will start to improve
Same! The USPS is amazing and we don't appreciate it nearly enough. For a quite small fee, I can put papers in an envelope and they will take it anywhere in the United States. Just carry it away and get it to some strange location in a town I've never even seen before. Amazing!
As a USPS worker, thanks for the love. Its hard doing what we do especially the amounts we have to do. As such some things are going to get messed up in our ancient machines and I feel pretty bad about that when you're the unlucky winner of a messed up piece of mail.
the only time i've ever gotten a messed up piece of mail ls when someone mailed me salsa in an un-padded box, and predictably it broke and got salsa EVERYWHERE and they STILL delivered my soggy, spicy package.
Thanks. According to our service doctrine we have to deliver any mail we can physically read the address to. Its always up to the customer how they want to handle breakage/insurance issues with us or the seller.
i just felt terrible for everyone who had to handle my salsa-laden parcel! it was from a friend, who has since learned to pack salsa more carefully (or you know, just not send semi-liquids).
Still can’t believe how easy it was for them to attack the usps. They’re doing it just like education. Strip all the funding then complain about how bad things are run
Diane Feinstein made a lot of money this way, her husband was a contractor for selling off the grand post offices. always good to have a side gig in the family.
having dealt with mailing product to folks in other countries, even "first world" ones
the USPS is a genuinely awesome part of the US that is top tier and carries a LOT of global trade reliably. It's the reason small business can flourish.
*in 2022 (forgot to add year, d'oh!). But point still stands. there's more than can be demanded of our gov if we're not also fighting a autocratic takeover at the same time. it's wayyyy easier to get shit done when ur not exhausted by constant panic and fear.
The stuff that people complain about with USPS is directly related to their budget being cut & mis-management by Trump’s appointee (who Biden never replaced for some batshit reason)
My problems with the USPS mostly have to do with their common lack of understanding that people can film in the post office. Other than that, the only complaint I can think of is people thinking they're not tax funded.
What do you mean, “thinking they’re not tax funded”?
Because the usps receives no federal tax money to run itself. It’s run on the sale of postage and postal products.
That's a common misconception. The USPS has received federal money and stimuli. The USPS does not make enough money to fund itself, especially considering oddities such as them being required to pre-fund all employee pensions.
One of the things that irritates me the most is Americans complaining about USPS. I lived and worked in different countries and no postal service comes even close. The fact that a govt agency can guarantee mail delivered and picked up daily in NYC as well as Zortman, MT is mind-blowing
That was where a lot of patronage went for black folks between the end of the Civil War and the start of Jim Crow. A pretty substantial number of postmasters in black majority towns in the rural south went to black men and women up through the end of the 19th century.
Also historically one of the best landing spots for retired vets wanting to stay in the civil service system. My dad did it for a hot minute after his 20 in the Air Force before a job came open back on base doing the same thing he had been doing before only now as a civilian for another 20

We can have excellent/decent public institutions and necessities if we actually vote and demand people and orgs. to do such things!

I want a new Postmaster General, but USPS good
So for the sake of everyone's small business, seriously do not want Trump 2 Boogaloo. Cuz that branch will crumble under him.
and still more can be done if Mr Chipped-an-Ear-and-Cry doesnt win.

Can’t have that.

It’s not an accident that the right has been trying to kill it for decades.
Cannot say that about all the other shipping companies.
