The women who voted for him are sharing their lives with men who mirror Trump. To see Trump as a problem means they have to see their misogynist husbands/fathers/friends as problems, too. What’s really sad is how many women have husbands/dads who don’t fully value them because they are women.

When we historicize the emergence of Me Too in 2017, its often framed as a reaction to Trump's personal misogyny—"grab em by the pussy" etc. But I think you can also see it as a more fundamental challenge to the new era of domination, linking political authoritarianism to its private origins.

I'm coming around to the idea of a kind of co-evolution. Trump raised the salience of the issue, women objected, and when that took off elite men as a whole lost their minds. I see the push for Cuomo as mayor of New York as an extension/assertion of their power here.

if Cuomo can win despite engaging in pretty brutal sexual harassment, that assets/re-asserts/makes explicit a norm that women's objections to behavior cannot be a justification for removing someone from power. and that is valuable to an axis that cuts across explicit politics.

I think there's sort of a similar dynamic with Obama and race, where a lot of people assumed we had a sort of "peace treaty" on race where their level of racism (bigoted but no explicit segregation was tolerated) and electing a black guy proved that wasn't the case

I had a professor who constrained us to writing almost absurdly short papers and I thought the exercise made me a much clearer communicator after a just a semester.

Limited space makes one think harder about what one is trying to say.

"Word limits are oppression" was comedic overstatement, of course. I think word limits keep us disciplined. Hell even 280 character limits have their purpose. But I think there's also real value in long form essays, and it doesn't always make sense for them to have a predetermined limit.
